So I guess you showed vim 😉🤣🤣 Have been Siverblue-curious for some time, but somehow never got round to giving it a good go. This is a great exposé of what it can do.

Yesss, this has been a secret weapon of mine for a bit now! It's made my experience both more secure, and more practical at the same time!

Another great video! Thanks for sharing the experience. I am interested in Silverblue and would like to switch to it someday. Fedora in general has been fantastic. Hope to see more vids about Silverblue from you. Stay cute :)

BTW, my Framework came with an i5 11th gen on it. I couldn't use any kernel below 5.15 if I recall correctly. I had an 5.15 kernel on it. Everything worked, except Bluetooth. No matter what I did. Upon updating and I had a new kernel of 5.16, everything worked with that. All that to suggest that you make sure it is a high enough kernel that will support everything your new 12th generation i5 has. Being it is such a new computer, it may be a while before certain features will work. Until the "team" gets around to adding it into the kernel. One of the joys of having the latest and greatest!

Awesome video. I just found Fedora and sound disappeared, so I tried SB. It did not fix the onboard audio, but I fell in love with Silverblue in the process. I am an avid Gnome, BtrFS user, so the whole immutable concept, captivated me. I found it challenging at first not having dnf, but it is really good not having to worry about broken systems. Now I would do it over with what I have now learned and if you would consider doing more videos, a checklist of what your SB from scratch, would be awesome. I have lost onboard audio since 6.0 and I think its a pipewire issue, but there are no answers yet. I subscribed, of course! Please do more videos, your delivery style is good.

Fedora and gnome for the win I’ve been using it on all hardware for the last 3 years it’s amazing I haven’t needed to try another distro in that time, I run it on a laptop as well Gigabyte Aero 15x it just works even Optimus gfx. I also run it on my home server etc

Thanks for the video. Very informative. But, like many I've read about, I can't wait for the day that Fedora WS and Silverblue are able to run on my Dell Precision desktop without cutting off the internet after the first update. No one seems to have a fix, although many have offered generous guesses. Glad it works for you. MicroOS is great too.

Buddy is using distrobox tumbleweed to install chrome so it's an official install instead of a third part flatpak , I think that is a nifty workaround.

How did you make fingerprinting work? My XPS have a "Goodix FingerPrint" and I have to build some modules in my kernel.

How's the audio quality? I'm having a hard time finding a laptop that has good audio with Linux out of the box.

Hey, thanks for a great review! Could you share the output of the lsusb and lspci -n commands? I am trying to figure out the exact device that Dell used for the fingerprint reader. Thanks!

I had similar issue finding where it setup. You need to go to settings under Users and enable fingerprint. Here is the lsusb if that helps you. I'm new to linux, so I'm sorry if I ask stupid question. can you mention the compatibility list of dell xps and fedora linux (especially in your model) Example: -bluetooth working (out of the box) -wifi working(with a little work around) -fingerprint(doesn't work) thank you
@Schykle
@Schykle 9 месяцев назад
Yeah, for sure. So everything hardware-wise works in this case from bluetooth to the fingerprint reader to wifi. The only issue I had (which has since been resolved) was occasional bugs with the 13th gen Intel stuff that I had to add some boot flags to work around when it would cause occasional system crashes. I did write about that process here if it helps! schykle.medium.com/the-perfect-fedora-silverblue-setup-for-the-xps-13-90c4917003a4

@@Schykle thank you for your reply, I would like to share my recent experience I install dual boot Fedora 38 in dell Latitude 7400 intel i5 8th gen touchscreen (non 2 in 1). Almost everything is working out of the box, Here is everything works: - keyboard (include brightness, volume, mic on-off, keyboard backlit func) - keyboard backlit - display(including touchscreen) - touchpad (2 or 3 finger gesture also works) - all i/o port works - webcam - mic - speaker Minnor issues: - fingerprint not works - somehow i can sharescreen per apps, but I can't share entire screen (test on discord and gmeet in chrome) - touchscreen gesture like scrolling only works in chrome, but you still can do click usinf touchscreen) Pretty important issues (at least for me) - battrey drain ver fast (solved using autocpufreq, but it can only make it survive like when I use windows, I hope it can surpass windows) - sometimes my fan is so loud ( but this one could be affected by my room hot temperature, and also as long as I know, this laptop never been repasted or cleaned the fan, so I guess it will be different when I do it) I will update my use experience someday (should be here), feel free to ask me question Thank you fellas, happy trying
