In this video I troubleshoot some signal routing issues on the tuner board, try to identify a possible design floor and make a modification to the tuner unit.
I attempt to repair the TC-112NV reed relay. I also try to cover the basics of how the RF switching circuits work. This is part three of a series of videos diagnosing and repairing this radio. This is a component level electronic fault finding and repair video. Please feel free to leave comment as we’d love to hear from you.

Replacement for 2SA1563 I used MMUN2114LT1G

Reed switch I used to repair the TC-112NV relay MDSR-7-10-25 from Little Fuse. Note: This is not fully tested as yet so I can't guarantee reliability please wait for further videos.

The radio , It's getting there John .... I had the Mk5 Field a few years ago , Nice looking radio but I just couldn't get on with it.

Hi Marc, Yeah it's coming together I haven't looked at the TX issue as yet, the rig was more poorly than I originally thought and I'm hoping it's there's not to much more wrong with it (fingers crossed). Re the MKV Field if I am honest I really don't have any experience with these radios however; now I have this thing receiving again it has quite a nice receiver but I do think Yaesu may have over done it on the features but I guess some people like all these features. That being said that's just my opinion and I have not been able to operate it. As always thank you for the comment and I may just make a review video if I managed to get it back to 100%. Let me know what you didn't get a long with and I will try to cover it. Best Regards

@@M0XFXUK if they do blow them up John it’s not because of something you did and personally it would spur me on even more to learn what I did wrong 😉. I can follow a circuit diagram but knowing how the sections interact is where I get lost so this was a very useful video for me 👍

Hahaha I have to agree, this thing has been a bloody nightmare and nearly as bad as the Lazarus Project. The next episode will be the last but whether it's a repair or a Yaesu being flattened by a steam roller video remains to be seen.🤪🤪

Hi Monty I am glad you find the channel of interest. Re the program, I am using a free screen capture application called OBS Studio and I am just high lighting sections of pdf's with adobe premier.

I agree it's a bad design Did you consider installing another relay with a grounding contact in the rx path Or à pico 500 mA fusé If your reed relay fails it will be another disaster

Hello Eugene thank you for your very interesting comment. Regarding the relay, I did consider replacing the reed switch to a two way version which would fit in the relay enclosure and would take the RX path to ground in TX by using the unused pin which is already soldered to ground via the PCB. I was a little concerned about the gap between GND and the TX rail but I am unsure if this would be a problem, I do think it would be worth a try. I think your suggestions of the pico fuse is a great idea as the work involved in rebuilding the front end is very time consuming. Regarding the design yes it's poor, I think with only a few more components this could have been very reliable which is a shame as these are great performing rigs when they are running that is. Once I have got the radio up and running again I may make another video exploring simple modifications to improve reliability. Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome. Thanks again regards John
