If I currently have the load warrior roof rack, this will attach to the extra cross bar that came with and fit on the rack correct?

Just got this rack and it's my first roof mounted rack. I really regret it. It doesn't lock to crossbars and if you do want to lock it, you need to purchase locks separately, which I haven't been able to find in stores. Also, the front wheel bars don't lock down when not in use, so they slam up and down when going over bumps. I'm bummed about this one, I'd look for another option.
@carrickdubya4765

Velcro or a very short bungee cord is your friend to keep the bars from slapping up and down. Getting one soon, but will probably pay 2x the price of generic locks and get the Yakima ones. I like supporting American jobs for smaller things within my budget.

so if I have my rack all the time and don't want to buy a lock it is easy to steal the rack?
@YakimaRacksOfficial
@YakimaRacksOfficial 5 лет назад
Hello, it would be easier than if it was locked. Locks are a deterrent , given the time and tools a thief will over come the locks. Locks will slow them down and hopefully be enough to have them look for the easier target.

Yakima Racks thank you for the swift response. Do you have any roof racks that would accommodate a 1273mm bike? I work that out as 50inches? If not, do you have any in development? Bikes are getting bigger!

@YakimaRacksOfficial 4 года назад
You can use the Fork Chop, but the Crossbar spread must be ±10” of bike wheelbase for proper use.

get the highroad or frontloader?
@YakimaRacksOfficial
@YakimaRacksOfficial 5 лет назад
Both carry the bike with the wheels on. If you have heaver trail bikes I'd go with the HighRoad, otherwise the FrontLoader works very well for road bikes, gravel bikes and cross country bikes.

@@YakimaRacksOfficial I bought a used Frontloader and find it extremely difficult to load and unload because the rear wheel tray is too short to rest the back tire in while I'm getting the front situated. Is there some trick to this that I can't intuit?

Does the "tailwhip" cable come with the rack? Meaning the only accessory I would need to purchase besides the highroad itself being the barrel locks?
@optimattprime
@optimattprime 3 года назад
Yes. Cable included. You only need the lock cores
@fayeh4412

Let me try to understand this - the only things that "securing" the bike mount to my existing roof bars are 2 soft rubber straps (0:51), you can have all the bike locks you want at the top. All someone needs is an exacto knife, cut off the straps and throw the bike along with the bike mount (with whatever locks you have at the top) in the back of their truck and drive away in less than 60 secs flat. And take their sweet time to cut through the bike mount with a grinder in their garage. All the locks mentioned in this video are meaningless as they only secure the bike to the bike mount, but not to the roof rack it self which is secured to the car... Most decent bikes cost at least a few thousand dollars, I certainly would not depend my bike security on 2 rubber straps...... Yakima, hope you take this into consideration for your future rack designs.

The straps are steel with rubber covering to protect roof bars.
@Gleeleeglee
@Gleeleeglee 3 года назад
@@bike.mad.kimbos Yes from my research they are stainless steel. Btw those stainless steel rubber coated straps looks easy to cut so I would use a U lock to lock the “hoop” onto the rack after you take your bike down.

Yeah but you run the cable lock around the roof bar. Then you can run a u lock for the front frame and add another cable their around the frame if you are leaving the bike extended period of time. If thieves want it, they will have the tools but this will make easier targets much more probable
@michaelgoddard9741

I just got this rack and while the straps are supposedly steel, they stretch, so you could easily cut them at the stretchy part. Also, there's nothing holding those metal bars down when there's not a bike in the rack. So they slam up and down when you go over a bump. And selling locks separately? Really? I totally overlooked this, thinking that a bike rack would naturally lock to the crossbars. I regret this purchase!!
@thomaswyatt199
@thomaswyatt199 5 лет назад
Design needs to be improved those 3 rubber straps make it a no no to leave you bike lock on as they can be cut with a utility knife in seconds and bye bye bike and highroad rack.
@YakimaRacksOfficial
@YakimaRacksOfficial 5 лет назад
Hi Thomas, The strap is a stainless steel metal band that is covered in rubber. Not sure if you have ever tried to cut stainless steel like this, but it near impossible to do with hand shears, and impossible with a utility knife. Not sure if yo have the actual product or are just looking at the video, if yo don't have one, i'd suggest looking at one a local retailer to understand how it is made and works.
@thomaswyatt199

Thanks for the info about the straps. I own two of these racks and feel much more confident about the straps now as I assumed they where just rubber.
