Howya Doin Honestly, we can't really blame them. Yakuza is a niche series unfortunately whereas Sleeping Dogs us much more mainstream and well known so its expected they think that way. Only we can do it set the record straight.
daAmazin FatB0y Yes we can blame them. There's this thing called Google. If you don't know something do your research. This way you don't look like an ignorant idiot. There's no excuse.
@Aiden Macleod that's exactly what he's saying. wtf kind of reply was that?? games don't owe anyone in particular shit, it's your choice to enjoy them. obviously people are enjoying this series and its choice of storytelling because it's gotten like 8 games, in which case we gladly suggest you find another story-less franchise to invest your time in you're basically mocking the logic that "playing chess without any strategy is pointless".
@@user-kl8om9su3c actually, if im correct (including spinoffs etc) it's fmgot 18 games. So you're definetily right on the part about the game franchise being successful. Also, since i love games with a lot of story, I really enjoy these games.
Mark Wheeler it honestly makes me cringe when somebody skips cutscenes, they immerse you in that virtual reality and without them what is the point lol
Lamont Coleman I have a mate who only plays COD mainly and he has a PS Plus membership so he gets the free games,V I've seen him start awesome games and skip the intro and all cutscenes to just play!? I'm like WTF!? totally different to me, I won't start a new game with people around me talking etc I'll wait till I'm cosy and quiet at night so I can focus and enjoy the game, get lost in it, but we're all different I guess.
@Aiden Macleod Casuals are those who don't/won't have the time to immerse themselves in the game world. That's why you'll find many of them renting per hour at internet cafes and playing on the go on mobile instead. And no, especially these days, cut scenes are actual scenes with voice and acting. Even back in the days of the first PlayStation when voices were limited and one has to rely on texts, there were still cutscenes. And story bits using the game engine still had animations, and the context were still presented.
Yeah, like every 10 feet there's combat. Sometimes I just wanna get to my destination a block over, nope, combat. I have literally gotten in a fight, and took 3 steps and got into another fight.
Meme Iselfaneye at the start it is, but you can "clean" the streets and then doesnt appear much "casual encounters" only the ones related with a secondary mission
"It's basic it's very simple" "While it feels very button mash-y" Compared to GTA 5, where they all have the same moves, no combos and you just press one button, it's pretty complex.
@@h0m3_ the main focus is answering the damned cell phone while trying to land a back flip on a bike, or nail a head shot on that prick you finally got in your sights...
Just finished playing this, my first Yakuza game. Story, voice acting and OST were incredible, was completely blown away. The combat is as complex as you want it to be, there are a tonne of abilities and stylish techniques to learn that make you feel like a total beast, whereas if you want to just mash square like an utter dingus, you're free to do that too.
the all mighty and powerful ass ketchup no it's ok not trash but also not the best they just made a fail with the things you could do in the game (Features) but for the rest the story is great and long and it's not that dumb story like Yakuza 0
The voice acting is incredible! Reminds of the Witcher 3 and TLOU with their amazing lip syncing, Story so far is great even though the beginning is mehh, but it picks up and gets so good(currently 10 hours in) it's worth the buy people! Oh and there's some really badass sequences, one of them you can watch in Angryjoe's review that just leaves you in awe lol.
Rehanlbp We'd I like it, reminds me of the 90's japanese beatemups with a touch of modern, and feels great, Kiryu has Brawler (a balanced style similar to the one he's used in the previous entries), Beast (a powerful but slow style that allows him to use heavy weapons), and Rush (a fast boxing style that emphasizes mobility) while Majima has Thug (a balanced style), Slugger (a weapons-oriented style with liberal use of a baseball bat), and Breaker (a tricky style utilizing dance moves).
Special K Console exclusivity sucks, So I understand, and this is also exactly why I bought a PS4 pro, So I can play exclusives games a lot of which are Japanese games, I even have a japanese account primarily for regionlocked ones, PC for everything else, lol.
Special K For one game? No, However, If you plan to buy Bloodborne(favorite game in the system) Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank and other Sony exclusives then absolutely yes.
gameranx looks cool but I hate reading subtitles. I look away for a sneeze or a drink of water and I lose what they said. Other than that it looks interesting
Never played any of the Yakuza games before, but I am absolutely loving my time with this game. Just started chapter 7 and the story is really, really compelling. It's just a little jarring having 4 different styles of cutscenes, but that's a minor gripe. All around it's just a really fun game with tons to do outside the main story from darts to bowling to pool to karaoke to disco dancing to watching softcore erotic videos to betting on catfights; and that's only some of the things you can do. This game has it all and it shows that Sega is still quite capable of making fun, compelling games.
@@bearwurst4200 I have over 100 hours in Y0, and I'm in postgame, but I'm nowhere near finished. last I checked, I was at like 60% completion. this game is something to be savoured.
Story first gameplay second? Might be because I'm a huge Yakuza fan but seriously the balance of gameplay and story in Yakuza is top notch and I'm even a fan of Metal Gear and its ridiculous cut scenes that can sometimes get in the way.
the game is a straight up masterpiece . Doesn' have a down time and keeps you interested the entire time with get substories to create a deeper bonding with the protagonists and the surrounding characters.
I've heard of these games before but never interested me, now that I know it's heavy on story, it sounds like a game for me, I love the Metal Gear Solid series and my favorite part were the cut scenes.
I've been playing video games since before kids that are gonna hate on this were even born, and I can honestly say the Yakuza series is my favorite series of all time.
@@hitoshura7 people often use that term to indicate that the game is unpopular... But actually it means it is more better than it was claimed to be.... A popular or an unpopular game both can be underrated... Like watch dogs is underrated... But that doesn't mean it didn't sell well... Actually it is one of the most selling Ubisoft title... But it deserved more ratings than it got..... The same goes for outlast 2, dynasty warriors 9,etc..
Really incomplete review , didn't show any heat moves neither the minigames, karaoke, disco dancing, underground catfights, perv videos...damn you miss A LOT of stuff dude. Also no fighting? lmao
You can literally feel more aggressive the more you play the games, lmao. I was once angry in real life, and turned on yakuza instead of fucking my wall up. Worked wonders.
I have never played a single yakuza game but I want to get a PS4 just for this, the upcoming remake of the first Yakuza game and Yakuza 6. That's just how cool this game looks in reviews! I saw an hour of gameplay too and got hooked on the story! I've never even played a JRPG or anything either so I know, it's kind of weird lol.
did you play shenmue? it is exactly like this. Its an awesome vibe that you get. The only real downside about the game is that there is no English Dubbing which is annoying, but after a while you get in sync between listening to the Japanese dialogue and reading the English subtitles and after a while you wont even recognize that you are reading and it will feel like you understand Japanese because playing a lot of this will get you in sync between the subtitles and the Japanese voice acting. Most young People on here dont know what Shenmue is and end up making dumb comparisons between yakuza and sleeping dogs or GTA lol, the game is nothing like these games and it is not really an open world, nor can you drive.
TheEgyptianOne I am aware of Shenmue but I've never actually played it. I am aware that there's no driving and it's not a totally open world. I've watched several reviews and an hour of gameplay and I feel like I would love these games. The story looks great and the mini games look hilarious! I will get a PS4 to play these games at some point. Obviously with a bunch of other exclusives too though like ratchet and clank, the last of us games and the uncharted series for starters.
@@TheEgyptianOne i wouldnt really consider the yakuza series and the shenmue series alike at all, sure they're both jrpgs and have minigames i guess, but that's where the similarities end
Never heard of this series until I played Yakuza 5. Then I ended up watching the live action movie. Now, I'm waiting for Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza 2 Remake.
I love this game! The story really seems to pull the player in, while the combat and mini games are actually quite "charming" fun. I guess you can say...
I actually really liked this game 1.Amazing plot 2.All those side mini games and side quests 3.The combat was kinda laggy but it isn't so repetitive. I would give this game a 9/10.
I've been in love with this series since Yakuza 3, and as a veteran, Yakuza 0 IS actually a great place to start. If you have interest in playing other games in the series, I recommend getting Yakuza 4 or 5, they are both amazing.
Man, yakuza 1 & 2 are The most amazing games in PS2, so much things to do, a game with a perfect story full of twists and sad moments, good gameplay... Simply a game full of fun, I've completed the game 100% 2 times, and I just can't get enough
I've spent about 70 hours with this game I'm about half way through the story it's the first yakuza game I've played I'm lovin every minute playing this game there's so much content in this game I wish more game developers made games like this.
A game that constantly makes me check and think "am I still playing the same game?" The combat system gets increasingly more fun as you continue playing, the sound engineering for the entire game is wonderful and makes the atmosphere of Sotenbori and Kamurocho deeply convincing. 2nd best storyline of the series just behind 5 IMO. Has me deeply excited for the remake and 6 releases in the West.
Mid-plot secondary quests and karaoke make this game funny af, I remember the "how to train your stripper" one as one of the most memorable, and the one about the cult which name i can't seem to recall, and majima's Cinderella is just a glorious piece of sweet art. I like to think of this game as a well hidden gem, and hope it never ends up getting consumed by it's fanbase like some games i know.
30 - 40 hours for a playthrough? I'm almost 30 hours in and just in chapter 2. I did all the pocket circuit races, I just started the dancing, I visited Mr. Shakedown a couple of times to farm money, I befriended some people around Kamurocho, I did every substory I can do at this point. For me, doing all this stuff makes my Yakuza Experience as much as the characters and story. I don't want to rush through these games, I want to enjoy them as much as I can.
Yakuza 0 is a game about the origins of Kiryu and Goro about crime, murder and money. A very serious matter at that. For some reason when my family members walks in while i play this game. They see cat fights, i wanna be your girl, libido guy, gandahara and many more. They see me as trash now lol.
I know the video is 4 years old but.jesus.fucking.christ. Skipping cutscene? [SPOILER] So i can just skip all Tachibana and Kiryu cutscenes or Majima and Makoto cutscene and get to the ending without understanding a thing Dude, before you do this kind of videos play the game for at least 100 hours
I’ve now played the first 5 chapters of Yakuza Kiwami. It’s my first game in the series that I’ve ever played, and I’m absolutely loving everything about it. Can’t wait to get Yakuza 0 when I finish Kiwami, and can’t wait to see what else the series has to offer :D
Warning this is not gta Japan to all those who think so, but my god am I happy I have pulled the trigger on this one I love it story and cut scenes are freaking great characters are so engrossing this is my first yakuza game can't wait for the remake of the original, I hope they port them all or put the old one on ps now I will pay to rent them lol or re buy a ps3

As a filthy Sega fan-boy, and one of those weird people who likes to play games, at least in part, for the story, I'm pretty sure i've just been sold... when... when I have money.
this game undersells it. the storyline is so good and i love the quirks and side stories to the game. this is one of the best games i've ever played tbh
I don’t like many Japanese games. The only other one I like is the Final Fantasy games, of which I’ve played only 1. But the quirkiness of Yakuza was what first made me fall in love with the series. Everything after that just made me love it more. I’m only about halfway through the series. But I can say that it has been one hell of a ride so far. I absolutely adore this game series.
Benji Price if you play a certain way you can accidentally avoid a lost of side combat which is what might of happened to him. To be honest. It nearly did for me. It's weird actually. Certain orders of actions you do can really make it feel like theirs little combat at times.
Yea because you have to explore and not just run to the story missions, there are literally hundreds of side stories. I assume that's what he did to get the review out fast, also this game should really be played on hard mode otherwise the combat is too easy in my opinion.
playing on pc in 2022, the story is really fun and the graphics looks much better than the ones in the video. worth a buy if you want to follow a long anime style story
never played a japanese game and never liked fighting games. just free roam. been playing gta’s and mafia and stumbled across this. now it’s downloading on my xbox. i have high hopes
i was a bit hesitant to try out yakuza 0 but decided to buy it when it was on sale for $5 and did not regret it. Initially i thought the game looks boring with too many cutscenes and afraid it gets repetitive. Now im at chapter 7 and im addicted to it. The story is very good and easy to follow and the combat is just super fun to beat up random people. im usually the type to skip cutscenes in video games but somehow im more addicted to the story more than the gameplay itself. Rlly love the game and cant wait to try yakuza 1-6. Now i just hope they would make this type of game but in a japanese high school context
in yakuza kiwami, kiryu got a skill in the 4th stance that can basically 2or3 shot a boss with 4~5 health bars, so people who want to play both zero&kiwami should probably play zero first
Gave this game a chance now am a huge yakuza fan. I already finished 0 and am mid way through yakuza 1 and planning to finish all of them because am interested in knowing what will happen next in the story
Now that I've seen this video, I'm curious about this game. I've never played a Yakuza game before but I'm currently playing Persona 5 right now and recently finished Final Fantasy XV. Japanese developers have released some really interesting and fun games recently, so I'm pretty excited about trying Yakuza 0! Thanks to your video, I'm going to buy Yakuza 0 today.
Just finished it today. The best game I have ever played! It is a must buy. The game is $20 everywhere. I think just the voice acting made this game $1000 worth. The game is priceless.
Turning me onto the series, I was playing Kiwama for a little bit then realized how awesome the story was heading, so I literally stopped playing and seen some site on "How to get into the Yakuza series" and what it basically does is sum down a general plot of each games story, and the series order it's best played in, and so I went ahead and bought Yakuza 0, and I'm going to start with that, then go back to Kiwama, and finish off the whole series from there.! Btw, awesome review, NEW SUBSCRIBER HERE, can't wait to see more content
I love this game. The combat is one of the main reasons why I enjoy this series so much. My biggest complaint though, is that the blocked off sections of your fighting styles are tied to the business sidequest, which I'm gonna be a honest, is a huuuuuge slogfest, when all I wanna do is get access to all my moves. I would give anything for a Yakuza game that has an unlockable "Arcade Mode" when you beat the game where it literally goes Streets of Rage with it, and lets 2 players go through multiple stages inspired by sections of the story, with a boss fight at the end of each level.
