Thanks. You said because of difficult of getting enough soil for commercial purpose, uou we take the soil where the land is to fill the sack" my question is that what little stones in the soil will it have any effect on the yam? If yes, wont it plenty work trying to remove the stones since you're going commercial? Thanks
@Naturesheritagenetwork
@Naturesheritagenetwork 3 месяца назад
Stones can cause obstacles to the growth of tubers when they are large. But when they are small and not much, the tubers can actually push them aside and grow. So when filling sacks, remove the much you can. The fewer the better.

I once experimented with some bags on my half plot beside my house. My challenge was bush rats eating up my seed yam. Please what's the solution to that?
@Naturesheritagenetwork
@Naturesheritagenetwork 28 дней назад
Easy. Traps or rodenticide with bait. Put around a recently eaten yam, they always come back the next day😃

Greetings my dear. What is the ideal size (height and width) and best most durable material for sacs for growing yams? are the bags woven?
@Naturesheritagenetwork
@Naturesheritagenetwork 28 дней назад
Any sack will produce yams for you but the bigger bags will give bigger yams. Woven backs drain better but also dry faster too

Thanks for this very informative video. You’ve shared a lot of information that will be useful to farmers and gardeners. The only problem I have with this method is the large amounts of plastic that pollutes the soil once the sacks disintegrate, which is very evident toward the end of the video where you are harvesting the tubers. Is it possible to plant in reusable containers such as drums? I have seen RU-vid videos of people growing large amounts of sweet potatoes in plastic drums. I think that the ideal containers would be jute bags, which are made from biodegradable materials, but I guess that they would be a bit too expensive.

Thanks a lot. You have raised a very vital issue I have done work on. I will share some links with you. I hope to try drums later. Pls keep in touch. I really appreciate you suggestions. Pls find time to check my recent videos. You may find them useful.

@@Naturesheritagenetwork yes, after my comment I did see the videos where you tried using jute bags and I’m wondering whether you need a different approach when using biodegradable bags. What if you were to allow the vines to encircle and cover the bags before allowing them to climb up the stakes? That way, you would be providing a type of mulch which would help maintain the mound intact.

Weldon sir, what if you have multiple seedlings in the sack will it still be same 50g or doubled?
@Naturesheritagenetwork
@Naturesheritagenetwork 4 месяца назад
50g per sack per time is fair enough but you can repeat it again after one month.

You said that one can put leaves in the bags to help with the growth in size of the yam tuber. Can this also be achieved by mixing saw dust with the soil
@Naturesheritagenetwork
@Naturesheritagenetwork 4 месяца назад
👌. Perfect. Anything that can compress to give room for expansion is okay. Once the basic principle is understand, one can play around with options.
