Question, I grew up on acoustic Tama kit played gigs and with several bands for years. I'm torn between trying this and going for the Alesis full kit. What are your thoughts between the 2 to make a better decision?

It feels like with that set up you’d need the snare trigger otherwise it doesn’t work as well as it could? If that makes sense.

I don’t have a “silent kit”. But you can add 5 extra triggers. And I could imagine that it would do wonders even for a “silent kit” with evening out levels and for a better overall attack. Here’s a sample of triggers “on a normal kit”: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4QYisw0hWN8.html

Gonna have this same setup soon having trouble with bass trigger actually triggering. Did you guys have this same problem? If so, how did y'all fix it? I've heard stuffing the kick drum full of blankets may help. Thanks. Great video btw not many videos like this around. Very helpful.
@denverpercussion
@denverpercussion 5 лет назад
Hi Benjamin, I didn't have a horrible time getting the trigger to sensor. I did notice the more I dug into the bass drum, the more present the trigger sound occurred. The bass drum also didn't have any inner dampening (pillow, blanket, etc.). My advice to you is to set the trigger sensitivity fairly high. You could also tune the bass drum head tighter.

If it's a stereo mic, I'm guessing it would only record your drums in stereo and therefore you would be able to mix the different parts of the kit down like you would on a multi-mic or even electronic kit set up? Or is the module clever enough to split things up? I ask because I'm considering buying RTOMs and L80s for an acoustic in an apartment but would also like to record my own music. Recoding drums in stereo feels like it's more for demos or just drum cover videos whereas surely you'd need multitrack for a somewhat more professional recording?
@angelrgdrums
@angelrgdrums 2 года назад
You only get one stereo track with the EAD. For something more pro you'd want to have separate mikes for each element.
@millerhxc
@millerhxc 2 года назад
@@angelrgdrums EDIT "...therefore you would *not ne able to mix the different parts of the kit.." Ok, that makes sense. But if someone did want to do a silent kit in an apartment, could they still potentially record for projects using this?

Could this be used in a live set up or would the snare and toms need to be triggered?
@denverpercussion
@denverpercussion 4 года назад
I wouldn't recommend using the SilentStroke drumheads in a live setting - especially if you are playing along-side guitar amps. You can definitely utilize the EAD10 with regular drumheads.

do you think that the roland tm2 can be connected to this unit ead10?
@maximetheo7180
@maximetheo7180 4 года назад
You can trigger with the ead10 and import your own sounds into the module. However if you want to connect the Roland TM2 with the EAD 10 there is a problem because the EAD10 has no MIDI IN or MIDI OUT input.

Hey, i don't know if you still reply but i played on an alesis nitro mesh kit a couple of times, and i can compare the sound levels to this. How loud is this compared to an e-kit? Sorry if i'm rambling, i just don't want to annoy my neighbours and family. Thanks for the help :D

Do I need any trigger besides what's included in the EAD10? I have a practice kit like yours, (Good touch, but nasty sound) and I'd love to trigger the sounds inside the module, but I don't know if I would need a separate trigger for every piece or the Yamaha will "catch" them and trigger the sounds by itself. With just the kick attachment.
@angeksee
@angeksee 3 года назад
And also, Does the module send individual outputs for each trigger in the DAW or just an stereo out?.

is there a limit to the amount of toms or cymbals? my kit has 10 12 14 16fl 16fl 14sn 22 bd 13hh 14hh 16&18crash 22ride 8"splash. seems that the ead10 has only 4 trigger inputs but would the mic pick all those up? thanks for any help anyone might offer!! also which mesh head brand would work best between my two options..remo slientstrokes or RTom LV?
@TylerCritti
@TylerCritti 2 года назад
I know this is a late response but I dont believe there is a limit. I have a 10, 12, 14, 16, 22 and a 13 snare. 4 crashes, 3 splashes, 3 china's, 2 rides, 2 hi hats and a stack and it picks it up pretty well.

How close is the feel to real actual heads???
@denverpercussion
@denverpercussion 3 года назад
Hi Michael, thanks for the message. Because you can change the tension of the drumhead, I'd say the feel is very similar to playing actual drumheads (bass drum especially). The response is very true to playing a normal drumhead. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Why kind of stand does the module require? Can I use a regular drum stand?
@denverpercussion
@denverpercussion 3 года назад
Hi Luis, the easiest way to mount the module is to use some sort of clamp from the hi-hat stand. When you buy the EAD10, it comes with an attachment that allows you to fit the module into any clamp (gibraltar, pearl, etc.) I have also seen in videos how the module fits into the 2nd level of any Yamaha cymbal stand.

Is there a setting that will give you a real drum sound, I’m not crazy about any of those sounds.
@denverpercussion
@denverpercussion 2 года назад
Yes, you can go all the way to the back side of the 50 pre-set sounds and use the "User Scene" to get a normal drum sound out of your kit.
@maeu59
@maeu59 2 года назад
@@denverpercussion so with mesh heads and low volume cymbals you can get a real drum sound out of the Ead? I have an Ekit that I use for low volume practice but it can never replace the feel of my acoustics.
@denverpercussion
@denverpercussion 2 года назад
@@maeu59 within reason. You won't get the same fullness of sound as you would with real drumheads and cymbals. By increasing the sensitivity of the microphone, you'll be able to hear distinct pitches as you play from drum to drum w/ mesh heads. The setting with the echo is a close representation of what the mesh heads and low volume cymbals actually sound like w/ the EAD10.

Denver Percussion Hi, I'd like to think the same but no one knows for sure :/ it will pick up the sound but the problem is how to mount the mic/trigger on the bass drum with the Rtom black hole head placed against the hoop!? That's the main issue!

Thanks for the comment. For this setting, the EAD10 would definitely be a luxury because like you said, it's only a practice kit. Although with the resource of Yamaha's App (Rec n Share), it would still be a great tool to utilize within your practice routine.
@ScuffyTheDog
@ScuffyTheDog 2 года назад
You can do many things to improve both volume and tone of the drums. Once they're balanced with the cymbals everything works good.
@msgdob86
@msgdob86 Год назад
Best way to use this method is to put triggers on all the shells and only use the mic for the ambient cymbal sound. That way, you can insert your own samples or download pro samples from online.
