Thanks for this review! I tried this bike a few days ago. And what a beauty! The bike is SO NICE! I ordered one long time ago, should arrive in april. Can't wait! :D
Power to weight is perfect. Middle Dwight bikes are the Goldilocks bikes. I love the looks. Some manufacturers are not afraid to try new styling. Most laypeople think all naked bikes are Harley’s. This bike does not look like a regular naked bike
It definitely looks better when you’re riding it then it does stand alone. I love everything about it expect the looks. Gonna have to see one in person like you said
I thought it looked a bit goofy but I went and looked at it in person and thought it actually looked pretty nice. It definitely makes the rider look awesome though and vice versa.
You want the SP the cruise control and suspension is totally worth the price difference and if you ever se it down the road it will be the one people actually want. It will retain its value better.
Can't wait for these to hit the states. Getting one as soon as I can. My local dealer wouldn't take a deposit since they didn't know when they will get one but I'll drive to another state if I have to. Rode the old MT09 on a short demo ride and fell in love. Can't wait to ride this thing!
@@jeffrt3893 They said im first in line but they wouldn't take my money. A regional manager came on the demo truck the other day and said my dealer was getting 2 of them but not sure when.
Good review...I've got a '19 and won't be swapping but when I wear this one out I will be looking at a similar replacement. I hope Yamaha continues with an MT09 "sweet spot" bike.
The SP looks better with this colour scheme but it still ain't pretty. I think it will look better with a bikini fairing or front screen fitted. Really interested to see how this compares to the 890R Duke, Triumph 765 Street Triple RS and the new Ducati Monster. All are around the same price and are close in weight etc. Hopefully a new XSR 900 will follow shortly as well. Ride safe.
I'm pretty sure it overall beats them all when you consider reliability, ride, suspension, quick shifter, cruise control, lift control, slide control, anti-lock brakes, and 3- cylinder motor.
@@jeffrt3893 That 890R is on a different level, but I’d definitely choose the Yamaha reliability. Have yet to ride a bike as exciting as that KTM. The Duke has everything you listed, expect it has a twin that produces more torque lower in the rev range, with top of the line parts at every turn. It’s the bike that’s making all the other manufacturers step their game up.
@@freebehindbars8654 Cool, but I was surprised when I was told that the quick shifter was an option on the 890R. Also, I don't think it has cruise control.
@@jeffrt3893 I agree the quick shifter comes locked is BS, but that’s the difference between a Japanese bike and one from Europe. Track pack is another “pay to play” with a feature already on the bike. Either way, until you’ve ridden an 890R, you have no idea what you’re missing. Yamaha has a better warranty as well, with KTM not covering most electronics, which, again, is bs.
Great, honest, usable info review. I think, SP especially, is a beautiful bike. Bang for the buck looks hard to beat. Always fun to listen to someone who knows bikes and how to ride them be genuinely impressed. All I can think of would be if I ride in a way to use or need cruise control, which I won't/don't, I'd get a Goldwing or car. However, no problem in paying extra for The SP even if I can't ride like Toad.
At first I thought it was not for me in the looks department but,,,,,,,just like you said it is getting easier on the eyes the more I look at it. Even if it's just on my computer. Got to get down to the local Yamaha dealer and check it out.
Nice review Toad, thanks. I test rode the previous SP and liked it. Behaved in the city and motorway but did not get the chance to shred some corners. This is on my short list for a new bikle.
MegaTron-09SP looks very cool with his gold and blue accents. A nice addition to the Yamaha and KTM Decepticons. I only wonder if 2021 Ducati Autobot OptiMonster Prime is better than MegaTron-09SP
yeah thats true. the bike is a beauty in real but ugly on photos. i saw one at the dealer and it looked pretty cool. i took a picture and its was ugly again on the photo. i ordered the SP Version 3 weeks ago and it should arrive at the end of april. i cant wait, its just a perfect bike
Nice critique, my boys got a standard MT09 and having riden it I would be beating a path to Maxton having experience with me XJR there like chalk and cheese
I recently tried out both the new MT-09 SP and the Z900. Ended up ordering the Kawasaki - I like the styling, the seat and the handling characteristics more on that bike. I do have to say that even though the Kawi engine is a stonking unit, the CP3 engine is a beast and it can really bring out the worst in you. After seeing this review I'm left thinking: did I make the right choice?
Can you do a head to head of the Tracer 9 GT's new semi-active suspension vs the '21 MT-09's Ohlin's + KYB setup? Those of us coming from the old FJ09s or Tracer 900s have our own aftermarket luggage are probably going to make a purchase decision based on key differences such as suspension.
Why is yamaha so ass at headlights?… could just use the housing for the gen1 and put cool led’s inside like the ebay ones and it would be miles better than anything they’ve done.
Both are terrific bikes! For the twisties and the mountain passes the SP does more than a fine job - if you should wish to take your bike to the race track more than often, the Street Triple would certainly be a good choice.
Really wish they'd done away with the long seat and done a split seat with a higher tail, similar to the z900. Would of made it look less like a hunch back and almost perfect in my opinion
I'm waiting for the extra accessories I ordered to arrive from Holland. The bike has my name on it, waiting at the dealers. They were ordered in February, feeling a bit numb right now..
Hi is this a better bike than z900 just ordered 2021 model and now I’m undecided, would appreciate your opinion thanks , just to follow up , I’ve viewed the mt09 sp and looks quite nice , got a lot going for it , but looks untidy in many places , looks like it was rushed and some quality issues , the z900 fit n finish far better but lacks all the goodies , still no wiser
Hey Dean, My thoughts exactly, I am about to buy the Z-900.. I like the goodies of the Yami ( I don't know if a quick shifter is included with the Kawi). My issue is I'm an older rider and need the lower seat height to flat foot. I wonder if a lowering kit is available for the MT-09? Otherwise it's the Kawi
@@circaindustries173 hi rode both bikes , and Yamaha clear winner and ended up buying , the engine even better , fun factor , fuelling better, felt instantly lighter and quick shifter and blipper very smooth even at low revs , hope this helps
@@chr11sf Spirited riding the SP on some truly demanding twisties favors you leading forward. The same is true with motorway speeds exceeding 130 km/h.
@@MrGbooster Mine arrived 9/04 at the dealers here in the UK. I'm waiting for the accessories I ordered to arrive from Netherlands before I ride it (For the 1st time). Brexit means more paperwork and new rules, now required by more parties, is slowing the process/the accessories ordered in February. It's irritating to say the least
Absolutely! The light weight, the torquey engine, Öhlins at the rear as well as S22 rubber and now with cruise control added: It makes the SP a very compelling package...
It's not only uglier, but the "romanian gypsy palace blue" with a truly classy gold sprinkling on top strikes again... I'm sticking to the stock colour sets, thanks! And a different bike. Thanks Yamaha! :D
Well, I’m a 53 year old Scandinavian, and I think it looks amazing!! At first I was in doubt about the headlight, but seeing it in the flesh, it just fits the bike. Traded in my MT10 for a SP! :-D
@@tubesvrider It’s definitely a lot of bike for the money. I’m sure the looks would grow on someone, if it lives up to the hype. Compared to Triumph or KTM, the hp/tq per dollar is amazing.
For the money it looks a crackerjack ride. Has all you need (would still like a centre stand) for long rides out but would probably question its touring ability. Still don’t know how Yamaha’s long-term build quality stands up to Honda’s, however. I still can’t be persuaded by the looks (overall) and particularly the front end.
Great..we know most of the big manufacturers make super reliable bikes these days but Honda’s build quality, certainly for their higher priced bikes, trumps the others for build and finish.
@@nigelfisher3756 Just a quick google search: What is the most reliable motorcycle brand? Yamaha According to Consumer Reports, Yamaha is rated by owners as the most reliable motorcycle brand. There is an 11% failure rate on a four year old bike, which is best among manufacturers.
From the perspective of someone who owned 1 pcs 2014, and 4 pcs of 2019, I can only tell, I wouldn't ever in my life buy antything after 2019. They reduced the power and every next line is weaker but overloaded with electronics aid and with serial failures. With 2014 you knew that the bike has jerky throttle but plenty of power. And thats it. Everyrhing after is just shit.
2013/2014 has jerky throttle. Nothing more. 2019 sp has freezing display, major failure with stalling at 7krpm in 2nd and 3rd gear, major problem with abs that switch off whenever the fuck he wants.
So ugly ! Cables all over the place the horn underneath the headlight there is also a hole between the seat and the engine , the exhaust is unwatchable looks like a box under the motor 😳
@@Fast_Flick I have the previous gen, at first I was a little upset that the motor is more powerful but then when I take a step back at the looks I'm fine with what I got 🤣
Should have left the front alone🤣. Looks like one of those battery lights, you see stuck on a cone during roadworks haha. That horn placement is shocking. Wouldn't mind a go on one though.
