Made the same mistake with the same results. Used the head gasket that came with my big bore kit and coolant was blowing out the reservoir breather tube. Just ordered the Cometic gasket. wish I did it the first time.
Yea man I was having problems at the top end pretty much ruled everything out it did smoke a little bit but I just ordered a 686 kit with name brand gaskets what jets would you recommend tho idk if you’ll respond here but if you do it’s much appreciated
What's involved with doing the 686 102mm mod to a 660 raptor? Is it a simple as picking up a 102mm piston boring the stock cylinder out? I have an 01 I bought in 07 and it's due for a top end freshening, a float stuck few years back and flooded the crankcase with gas and I think it may have washed the cylinder down and did a little ring/bore wear and it's puffed a little bit ever since. So it needs a top end job or at least new rings but there's probably mild scoring? and the timing chain is getting bit noisy, So I was kicking the idea around of doing the 686 mod during the top end re freshening. It has a hot cam but not sure which one interested to see which level probable just a level 1 because the engine is otherwise un modded as far as I know just bolt ons but even with a cam, dynojet kit, k&n filter with box mods, full exhaust (big guns header, white brothers R4 slip on) and lower gearing (-1 tooth countershaft +2 teeth rear) and 18"s on back it's pretty lively now, it tops out around 60mph now but riding it around it wants to yank your arms out of the sockets and keep front tires airborne all the time. I just didn't see where I needed a 80mph wheeler I'd rather have the retarded torque.
What is the best most reliable bolt on kit for 02 grizzly 660 on pump gas? Besides big bore kit what else needs to be done for good running and reliable operation of said big bore kit?
I want to thank you for you posting your videos I have subscribed! The question I had you answered in the first sentence in this video any 660 gaskets will work 686 Big Bore I just built a 686 and the head gasket blew so I was searching for good gaskets and could not find a gasket for 686 always kept coming up 660 thanks again and what Jets do you recommend
I would google jets and read the setup of others, then go from there one notch up on pilot and about 150 mains is a starting point, then ride and see if it's fat or lean
Hey I've got a 04 660 that I just bought a 686 kit for and yeah I used the gasket that came with the kit and immediately had pressure start bleeding into the radiator and anything other than idle would blow coolant out the pipe and anything much above idle would just blow the cap off and I'm just sick came out of time it took to do this and I know I had my head checked I had my block checked when it came just to verify everything was right and still didn't go together right I'm so bummed I wish I had watched this video
Hello, I have an 05 Yamaha Raptor 660r. I put the 686 big bore on it, but there are already two head gaskets that I changed and it has a coolant leak. I watched your video and decided to buy the cometic gasket. Do you recommend applying ..(cooper spray a gasket).. for better quality or not needed i would appreciate if you answer me thanks
I put a new cylinder with a milled head on my 660 Rhino. It wont run because the cylinder hydrolocks from antifreeze. I just noticed i dont have the beveled o ring at the base of the cylinder. Could this be my issue?
Quick question. Why is there not as many holes in the head gasket as there is in the head and valve cover? My rappy is doing the exact same thing. Did a big bore kit. And now have what I believe have blown my second head gasket for it keeps blowing the reservoir tank cap off and blowing all the coolant out. Does it really come down to name brand head gasket for everything to be fine?
Cylinder works and Athena are good, the no name 660 kits on ebay seem to be ok, but the gaskets are junk, be sure to buy good gaskets, moose, cometic, etc
Wanted to know i have a 660 raptor and its seeping oil out of head gasket and burns oil at idle or heavy throttle is the head gasket or oil ring wanted to know you thoughts on it please
Just installed a big bore kit on my 2005 Raptor and hear a faint knocking sound that wasn’t there before. Didn’t think to check ring gap. Could that be the problem?
no, but that is definitely a bad head gasket or cracked head. Mine was pressurizing the coolant catch tank and making its push in cap pop off. and cutting out at high speed revs
@@Lil4olk6 normally as long as the engine lasts, but 686's are picky. it's best to get the stud kit for the head and be sure to buy a name brand gasket
