Thanks for putting on translation for us who dont speak French/other languages :) Lost count over how many times I've seen a video where there is a click bait English title, and then the language spoken/written is just in whatever language they speak that is non-english. so THANKS! you make life so much easier!

Went for the XSR and picking it up tomorrow! Although I love the new Scrambler Icon Dark the insurance was a lot more expensive and this video sort of made me happy I went with the Yamaha. But I would love a scrambler sometime love the look of it

Thanks for an awesome video. Your vid especially has made me happy I chose the xsr700. I love the look and am very happy it rides better than the ducati. I agree, the fact it is so much more dearer that the MT-07 is ridiculous....that is why I am so happy that I got the dealer to sell it to me for the same price as the MT-07. EVERYONE - go bike shopping toward the end of the year, the dealers are desperate to hit their quotas and will give you massive reductions. I even got 0% fiance !!! Thanks - your vid was very cool

Great review. I like the format of your videos, with English text. Some reviews by non-native speakers are undermined by their thick accents. Also, having just watched Straight Outta Compton, I LOL'd at "Fuck the Police". I'd love to get one of these in several years. I'm a new riding shopping for my first bike (probably a Honda VTR250) and we don't know if the XSR700 is coming to Japan yet either...

you’re right, but if you think of also riding on light dirt roads, i think the Scrambler would be better. But the heat of the Scrambler motor made me worried. I think Yamaha should made a scrambler version (better suspension, higher ground clearance, Pirelli MT60R/RS tires ...) of their great XSR700. Cheers from Montreal. Live long, ride safe & prosper 🖖🏼

So it’s one of those, I’m justifying my own purchase videos and not actually comparing the two bikes. And what do you mean by “real bike” the xsr700 is an mt07 with a face lift the scrambler came from the monster but was designed to be an urban cruiser. They are both long standing reliable power plants. But the two bikes have two different personalities. It’s not one is “real” and the other isn’t. The scrambler is very mechanical, air cooled and torquey with a short gear box making it peppy around town. The xsr is a dressed up sport naked. The bikes have basically the same specs. 410lb scrambler has 75hp 49ftlb torque. Xsr is 410lb 72hp 50ftlb torque. You can wheelie both and throw both into corners. I struggled between the scrambler and xsr. Honestly I chose the scrambler because the used scrambler I wanted was available for a great price and the xsr was overpriced for used and no one was selling them in my area. But just like you I love my bike. I love the look and I fell in love the second I threw a leg over. Then even more after riding and snapping the throttle. Bikes are an emotional purchase and each bike speaks to people differently. I love the mechanical clunk of the gears and the snappy grunt of the throttle. I only ride weekends and that’s the experience I long for every Saturday morning.

Hello, in Taiwan, MT-07 is about 9500 EUR, MT-09 is about 12300 EUR. XSR700 is about 11800 EUR, XSR900 is about 13100 EUR. I want XSR700 at first. After knowing the price, i'm thinking about 900. What's your decision between 700 and 900(considering their performance and price in Taiwan)? I know you love mt-09 so much haha. It will be my second bike, first bike is Yamaha SR150(only in Taiwan, 150 c.c.). BTW, they are parallel importation except MT-07.

Fantastic review, well done. Thoughtful, considered advice and comments. Thanks for the laugh re the cyclist and the police, nice touch. I totally agree about the rather hideous radiator. Such a dominant and jarring feature against the retro aesthetic of the bike. Also, it should have been given a better name - XSR700 is a mouthful and uninspired for what seems like a fantastic bike. I'm 6ft3, and over 100kg (ex rugby player), would this bike look too small for my frame? It hasn't landed in New Zealand yet so I can't check it out in person. Also, as someone posted earlier, would it handle off road as capably as the Scrambler? I've seen the Scrambler on another youtube video absolutely taken through the grind off road, and it handled the riding and conditions well. Just wondering what your feeling is with the XSR700 in that regard? Cheers.

+Sulu Fiti First of all thank you very much ! Well, the XSR is a small bike. But then again you probably will make any bike look small ! Seriously I can't see it being a problem for comfort or using the bike in itself, just the look. As for the off road, the XSR is basically a converted roadster, so it is not designed for off roading, and I wouldn't recommend it. If it's just green laning that's fine like with any bike anyway. I wouldn't even take the Scrambler off road, Although it has the "Scrambler" name for me it's just a fashion statement. I can't see it being that good off road. Get some knobly tyres on the XSR and i'm sure it will be just as capable. Hope I helped !

@bobbydj01 Ok fair enough... Different subframe let's say at the most it has a 100€ price difference...New set of bars, price difference would be a maximum of 20 euros... And for the weight that's probably the metal tank wich again, the difference would be no more than 200€. Still dosen't justify 1.800€ difference...

I tend to agree - but just saying "plastics" makes it look like you've failed to do your research and thus undermines your credibility slightly. It may seem pedantic, but especially with respect to weight gains, those interested in bikes always like to know every detail. Also, there are a number of questions raised about the comfort of the MT - the seat in particular. Perhaps the XSR's modified subframe and thus its different seat solve the ergonomic issues of the MT. thus mitigating the 4kg increase in ballast. And perhaps the price too if the issue really is cured. I suspect however that it is not and that only the 07 Tracer can do so - but then that is 25kg heavier iirc. A substantial increase. Oh and a longer wheel base too.

Great review! I just wish it had a longer bench seat for a better pillion experience. It seems like something is missing in the back. I never got into women who are big up front and nothing in the back, so maybe that's why I feel the same about motorcycles.

I loved the video and the review. I have ridden an MT-07 and a Ducati Scrambler, and although I usually go for European bikes, I have to say that the MT-07 was a pleasent surprise to ride! So well set-up that wasn 't far from the Ducati. But for me, the Ducati is the real "rider 's bike"! I fell like I could do anything I want on that bike, and still it could take up more pressure! But I don 't know if I manage to afford one, so I may go after all for the MT. Its price is also a no-brainer - although I am not sure about how will it be holding (*in terms of quality) after 3-4 years. MT does have a silly pillion seat too, which is a major issue for me. So I was looking forward for something like the XSR-700. But I personally do find it somehow ugly - although I haven 't seen it live yet. This is subjective of course, but I cannot throw my money on a bike I don 't like. Seems to me like several different bikes were glued together by accident! Was it intentional? I don 't know! PLUS... you were right on one thing: 1800 euros more expensive than MT-07 for what? It 's already getting very close to the Ducati Scrambler and MotoGuzzi V7ii money.

+kaveiros75 You have to see a XSR700 in the flesh, it's a lot nicer than in pictures. But the most important is you buy a bike that you like. I'm just here to give my personal opinion. And I can see the bigger appeal with the Ducati. It's a great bike ! They're both great !
@kaveiros75
@kaveiros75 8 лет назад
Le Canard Enragé Thanks a lot for the reply. I will definately see one live and try to ride it when it comes in my country too. Among other stuff, I am curious to see how the more "chopper-like" riding postion will appeal to me (I dislike choppers). Still, unreasonably expensive though. European bikes at close prices seem to be better made and hold their resale value a little longer.
@kaveiros75
@kaveiros75 8 лет назад
+Le Canard Enragé I finally saw a real XSR700, and got on it - not ridden it. Surely looked better in real, and it is actually beautiful when you sit on it. But if felt taller and heavier than the MT-07, the Ducati Scrambler and the MotoGuzzi V7ii. So, given its increased price, I think I will pass. This is just me, though. Stricktly personal. - I still can 't decide between those other 3 bikes! :P

+Le Canard Enragé thankk you for the answer. I am really confuse at this time to decide what to buy. The doubts are between 3-4 bikes: Should i try the MT 03 or the MT 07 (limited to A2) either the normal version or this XSR 700? Or the Honda CBR 500 R is a better choice? I kknow that in the end it is our own preference that has the last word, but in your experience which one do you think is better to start with and really learn well?
@Le_Canard_Enrage
@Le_Canard_Enrage 8 лет назад
I would say the MT-07. First of all it's cheaper than the XSR. And if it's your first bike, I know it's terrible to say, but chances are you're going to drop it one day and you want cheap parts. Seconde it's a bit pricier than the MT-03 but you get so much more for your money, and the day you get your full liscence you can derestrict it and get a whole new experience. And for the Honda I find the MT07 to be more fun and better looking ! But that's just me :D

Here, the Duc costs the same as the MT07 (and the yamaha doesn't get ABS here). How the XSR is better for dynamic riding than the Scrambler.
@Unfunny_Username_389
@Unfunny_Username_389 8 лет назад
8:13 - I do not think so. The difference between the MT and the XSR are rather more significant than "plastics". Firstly, the latter has a different subframe - which has made possible the fitting of a different (and arguably comfier) seat than the MT. This has also increased the height of the seat by 10mm. Secondly the bars on the XSR are wider and angled slightly further back towards the rider. Thirdly the XSR is 4kg heavier. Thanks for an otherwise informative and well-written review. Very helpful.

Definitely not. But nor do I think the Ducati should be so much dearer than the XSR.
@mromegakiwi4952
@mromegakiwi4952 7 лет назад
+bobbydj01 I wouldn't buy the Ducati over the XSR anyway. Many people complain about the electronic dial and the carb, but I feel that it contributes to the modern/retro look that Yamaha's trying to pull off. I'm thinking of buying this bike next year once the second-hand price goes down. To me they set the price too high on this one, especially since you need to customise it to your taste.
@Unfunny_Username_389
@Unfunny_Username_389 7 лет назад
True - but I do wonder why. After all, the MT-07 is so cheap. It would've made more sense to ask slightly more for the MT, and then bring down the list price of the XSR somewhat. Perhaps Yamaha believe that the market for the latter is proportionally smaller, however. Then again, those riding motorbikes are an ageing demographic - at least in the UK, but I suspect throughout most of Europe too. Licensing laws are so strict now that obtaining a full license is really quite difficult. So - this would suggest that the youth market - i.e. where the MT fits - is actually no bigger than the "seniors" market, where the XSR is more likely to be purchased. Not sure where I'm going with this, but I do find it quite puzzling.
@mromegakiwi4952
@mromegakiwi4952 7 лет назад
+bobbydj01 It's a good point you made there. But there's also a new motorbike culture emerging among young riders in cities, where comfortable, easy-riding retro bikes like the scrambler are becoming increasingly popular. So maybe Yamaha is trying to get into this market by setting a price that is lower compared to the scrambler, but still high enough to make you feel like it's quality. They might even be trying to get a legacy feeling going. Yamaha's bikes have always been great, durable and quality builds, but they don't have that whole culture attached to the brand like Moto Guzzi or Ducati do.

Yes, the mono will be more hard work but much more rewarding. It all comes down to what you need in a bike. If you're going to use only on week ends for fun, get the mono. If you're riding every day, get the twin maybe... Depends... But both bikes are great

Nice work on the video mate. I do rather like the look of the XSR, definitely agree on the price part, it's taking the piss. A few things though, can the XSR go offroad? I was initially excited when I heard about it though after seeing it, it's offroad ability seems limited? On the subject of the Duc. Unfortunately I have to agree on the poser part. I've had some very scared looks when I tell people I take mine offroad. Most of the mods I see on it are to turn it into a cafe racer. I think you're off about the 7k rpm losing power though. Maybe the one you rode was buggered. We're not all posers ;)
