The brilliant nineteenth-century convert Orestes Brownson, in one of his defenses of what he called "saint-worship" (noting that no word so accurately expressed the Catholic position but denying that it constituted idolatry), pointed out that since Protestants (in the main) lack a conception of liturgical sacrifice, they really worship God, in terms of what they actually *do,* only as much as Catholics venerate the saints. So, are you saying that Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego could have bowed down to the golden image in order to save their skin if deep down they didn't believe the idol was a god?
In Revelation 19:10, John, the author of the book of Revelation, describes an encounter with an angel who appears to him in a vision. John falls at the angel’s feet to worship him, but the angel rebukes him, saying: “Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.” This passage highlights the importance of worshiping God alone, rather than any created being, including angels. The angel emphasizes that he is a fellow servant of God, along with John and others who hold to the testimony of Jesus, and that their worship should be directed towards God alone. The Spirit of prophecy, which is the Spirit of Jesus, is the one who bears witness to Jesus and is the ultimate authority in matters of faith.
@@Name-nq7tj bowing down has 2 meanings to worship or to honour, John in that vision is in heaven, in heaven bowing must mean worship and not honour and greetings like on earth.
@@iThinkBiblically King told them to bow down if the king said it was a god then that's a different story just like Pharaoh in Egypt he claimed to be god bowing down to the Pharaoh will be bowing down and worshipping a false god that would be idolatry. Catholics don't believe Mary is God nor does Mary claims to be God not idolatry , nor does king Charles the lll says his a god.
Well sir think again. 1: she isn’t in the Eucharist, it’s Jesus 2: there is no celebration of the mass for mary(like how we celebrate Christ passion at mass) 3: we never say all glory goes to you mary. But still why shouldn’t we pay respect to her as our holy and true mother, and queen of heaven. She went through so much sorrow during her life. Ima keep praying to her and kissing statues and paintings.
There are differences to people, unfortunately for Catholics there is none according to God who is not a respecter of persons. Blessed amongst men she may be.
Catholics are Christians and Catholicism is Christianity. Just as Eastern Orthodox, Lutherans, Oriental Orthodox, Methodist, Baptist, Anglican, etc are all Christians so too are Catholics.
Of course! What a nonsensical question. Those two things arent mutually exclusive. Considering it was the Early Church that compiled the canon of scripture, Catholics of course take Gods word seriously and with great importance.
@@LukeLovesRose the Catholic Church was the Early Church that compiled the canon of scripture in the 300s. The Catholic Church can also be thanked for preserving the scriptures through her deep efforts to keep it safe and create more copies through the work of Monks.
Ah silly Mr. iThinkBiblically… It’s an easy question! We don’t offer sacrifice to Mary as we do to God. Bowing, kissing, singing, seeking intercession, etc. aren’t inherently worship. Which is something you should know
"We don't pray to Mary. We don't worship her. Oh silly. We just ask Mary to pray for us, that's all." Morning Prayer to Mother Mary: "My queen, my mother, I offer myself to you. And to show my devotion to you, I offer you this day, my eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, my whole being without reserve. Wherefore, good Mother, as I am your own, Keep me, guard me as thy property and possession." Prayer to Mother Mary for Protection: "We fly to your protection, most holy Mother of God; please listen to our petitions and needs, and deliver us from all dangers, ever glorious and blessed Virgin Mary." Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary: "O most pure heart of Mary, full of goodness, show your love towards us. Let the flame of your heart, O Mary, descend on all people. We love you im- mensely. Impress on our hearts true love so that we may long for you..." A Prayer to the Heart of Mary: "...Take under your protection the Holy Catholic Church; defend it,and be always its consolation, its asylum and its invincible fortress against every assault of its enemies...Be our help in our wants, our relief under afflictions, our comfort in temptations, our refuge in persecutions, and our support in all dangers;" Seek to know the true Creator, wherever it leads you.
"We don't pray to Mary. We don't worship her. Oh silly. We just ask Mary to pray for us, that's all." Mary is dead, and necromancy is condemned in Scripture. Where is the example in Scripture to pray to the dead?
No one does. Tradition holds she was buried in Jerusalem, but her body, being assumed into heaven (like the Scriptures say of Enoch and Elijah), is no longer with us.
Is it idolatry to pray to Mary? “Do you ever ask family or friends to say a prayer for you when you are sick or have problems?” he responded. “To ask the Mother of Jesus to intercede for us is not idolatry. In the Catholic Church - we believe like all Christians do - salvation through Jesus alone!25 Aug 2023
1 Timothy 2 King James Version 2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
Luke 2:51-52 New International Version (NIV) Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
Not sure who “you” is, maybe fanatic individuals, but no Church authority has ever mandated or even recommended anyone to bow down to images of Mary, kiss them, burn incense to them, or praise them. We know that neither Mary nor images/representations of her are God. We honor her, as she is the mother of Jesus (God). Jesus gave her to us as our mother and us to her as her children when He was on the cross. We believe she is in heaven with God. And on the basis of the many verses about God hearing the prayers of the righteous, we dare ask her for her intercession, knowing that we could not possibly be holier than the woman who bore our Lord in her womb.
@@LetTheTruthBeTold8324 What I mentioned before, still stands, nobody has ever mandated those things, I can not find them, I as a devout Catholic, personally, don’t do them and would advise against that kind of relationship with any Saint. In response to your comment, I don’t think the angel Gabriel was being ridiculous in Luke 1:28.
@@alejandroreynaga3375worst things were mandated by popes than that my friend. It doesn't matter if it was mandated. It was tolerated. Rome said this is God's will. Was burning heretics God's will? Was the Bible being kept in latin and only handled by preists God's will? Was the inquisitions and Holy wars God's will? Genocide of indigenous people? Persecution of homosexuals? Where is any of that in scripture. I'll wait...
Did you know that demons during excorcist can't stand the very mention of the Virgin Mary? Every Catholic exorcist in existence has always carried a rosary when fighting demons. And I'm suppose to take this guy's advice 😂 who has no church who has no authority who has no supernatural miracles to back up his divine understanding of Scripture. Scripture that is coming from a Catholic book
@qualitypaversinc So demons shudder at the mention of the name of Mary? It sounds like you worship Mary and that means there is no place in heaven for you, I advise you to become born again and put away your idolatry and follow Jesus
@@johngraves9237 I was born again. Catholics call it confirmation. We are baptized as new borns into the family of Jesus. God has been with me my entire life. Please read Revelations chapter 12 and you will get a beautiful picture of the mother of God. John sees her in heaven wearing a crown 👑 on her head. A CROWN 👑 Read revelations 12 a few times and if you still believe that Mother Mary is no one then you are simply in denial my brother. Jesus honored her while dying on the cross. The Angel honered her when he greeted her. Elizabeth honored her when she had John the Baptist in her womb. Revelation 12 honors her. The Virgin de Guadalupe in Mexico is a supernatural miracle that defys the laws of this world. Along with the Virgin de las Lajas in Columbia and all the Marian miracles all throughout the globe. She is the greatest of all believers. The most humble and pure of all of us believers and Jesus Christ has placed her above all other humans. The rosary is a powerful prayer against evil in this world. And I can keep going on. The Virgin Mary is special. Hope one day your eyes open and you see the beauty of the mother that God chose to be introduced into our world.
Absurd date. The flourishing of Marian piety is clearly witnessed in the preceding century, and the essential doctrine of Mariology was widely diffused by the end of the second century.
@@hilairebelloc3368 Fact. Google it. Both the RCC and EOC began in 1054 AD, when the heads of both denominations excommunicated each other. Historical fact. Indisputable.
1 Timothy 2:5 "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus," Your turn! What verse do you have that any man or dead "Saint" is a mediator between man and God in the New Covenant?
I know idolatry when I see it; one needs to be blinded by slick semantics and tickling ears to know the Catholic faith! (Notice how you say, the "Catholic faith" and not the "Christian faith!" Even you admit that you are not Christian!)
Jeremiah 7:18 "The children gather wood, the fathers kindle fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven, and they pour out drink offerings to other gods". Jeremiah 44:15-18 A large assembly of people, including men and women, tell Jeremiah that they will continue to burn incense and pour out drink offerings to the Queen of Heaven, despite his message
I don't worship Satan, I just pray to him, kiss the feet of his statue, tell him how awesome he is, and have totally devoted myself to him. Hail satan.
Wow, using satan as an analogy for the love we have for Mary. And then the last two words, I would not even say that if you paid me to. I would never even use those two words together, sarcastically. You should repent of your sins.
I once heard Catholic Preacher say that the true definition of worship is "Eucharist." Lol, as long as Jesus is bleeding on the cross, that's worship? And Mary glowing with a golden crown that's veneration?
Cool story, bro. Doesn't change the fact that the Roman Catholic Church held down Christianity for 1500 years and is the one and only apostolic church of Jesus Christ, who made Peter the Rock of the Church. The same Peter who eventually became the first pope. And I say all this as an atheist.
Yes, Roman Catholicism "held down" real Christianity for centuries! Even eliminating genuine Christianity through persecution and murder! You are no more "Christian" than an Islamic Jihadist!
How do you treat the Mother of God? God loves Her .... and you should too. Don't you love your biological mother? Do you kiss or look at a photo of your mom if she's far away or you miss her? Do you sing to your mom? You could give things a different perspective. Also... never have heard of the cakes.... where did you read that? I highly recommend that you read the Catechism of the Catholic Church founded by Jesús Himself.
I don't bow down to my mum or bow to statues and images of her, I don't burn incense to her or pray to her in front of a statue and I don't sing unto her like unto a god.
What are the three types of worship in the Catholic Church? Adoration - to praise and worship God. Confession - to come to God and say sorry. Intercession - to pray for the needs of others.
No, God says that you are going to hell for your idolatry, necromancy, superstition and failure to give God alone your worship. A false Gospel is no Gospel at all! Next!
Catholics who know their stuff would admit to worship. It's just a "different" kind of worship. They say latria is reserved to God, but hyperdulia is for Mary and dulia for saints. The bible doesn't make such distinction. I've seen Catholics worship Mary in every manner they worship God, or at least who they think is God. I'm a former Catholic. I used to wear a scapular, do the rosary and divine mercy, altar boy, k of c , all sacraments but holy orders, and VERY involved in my parrish
I was shocked to discover the Greek Orthodox do as well. They have images of her that supposedly issue "miracles". That's pretty scary. Can you please give attention to this error too???😢
Who needs a pope? We only need Jesus he is the only way to the father how dare anyone compare Peter a man who walked with Christ to a Pope?! That's disgusting 🤢🤮
Everything you said that Catholics do to Mary, is also done on the reg to everyday people and no one bats an eye. In Japan people bow to each other. In America we build statues of presidents. All over the world we celebrate and honor heroes. In every country we sing praises of other people. Just listen to the radio.
The difference is that Catholics only worship God as the Infinite Source of Love & Mercy. They do not worship Mary as God. They do pray to her though. Worship is true Sacrifice, just as the Israelites sacrificed lambs to God, now Catholics offer to the Father the Lamb of God on their behalf as the Sacrifice for the world. Catholics would never do this with Mary
Paganism cast a spell on the practitioner. They never realize that they are into idoltary. Not all Catholics worship Mary, but Catholic doctrine teaches the worship of Mary. Obviously they use different terminologies to describe the act of worship. It's like driving a car and saying u are not driving it, u are just controlling the movement.
Do Catholics worship God or Jesus? Catholics worship the One and Only God, who is the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.) He is ONE God, in three divine Persons, and his name is YHWH or Yahweh. The second Person of this Trinity (the Son) came to earth and took on humanity. His name is Yes
What is the difference between adoration and veneration? between veneration (veneratio, douleia) and adoration (adoratio, latreia). Veneration is defined as a proper attitude toward saints, whereas adoration is applicable only in connection with God.
Is there a difference between veneration and worship? The underlying assumption here is that the act of veneration is an act of worship. But this is not necessarily true. The word veneration simply means to give great respect or reverence. The respect and reverence that Catholics give to sacred objects is not of the same kind of respect or reverence given to God.
Still no reply still not up for taking this online about the Catholic faith if you’ve solid in what you believe them take me up we will do a live RU-vid section let audience decide and I mean this with humility, it amazes me how the Catholic Church gets ridiculed but no one will take the challenge, maybe it’s fear that holds one back only the lord himself and the individual knows
If Catholics don’t worship Mary, can you explain the difference between parading and bowing down to her statue the same way some Hindu or Buddhist would? Pope Francis told priests, nuns and seminarians that one way to make sure Jesus is the center of their lives is to ask "his mother to take you to him. A priest, a brother, a nun who does not love Mary, who does not pray to her -- I would even say one who does not recite the rosary -- well, if you don't love the mother, the mother will not give you the Son." Last time I checked the Bible said For God so loved the world, that He GAVE us His only begotten Son. Mary didn’t even exist before Christ.
Great question. Idolatry has always been a sin inside the heart and never coming directly as a cause of others outside ourselves but influencing us to temptation which is why the Lord tells us evil thoughts within are what defile us. That being said, yes it is easy to slide into idolatry these days as we all do whether we realize it or not with even our phones and social media and make God second place and anything else first which is the definition of idolatry as a sin. Now do you know what worship entails? Worship demands a sacrifice dating back to Old Testament times and before with sacrificing the blood of the lambs with Jesus being the Lamb of God called that for a reason. Having a big jam session singing and not understanding what worship is not biblical even in the times of Abraham worshipping God with obedience and killing a ram instead of his son Issac. Catholicism has got it right in that we sing and praise the Lord while offering up the bread and wine as a sacrifice Jesus commanded his apostles to do in the Gospels with emphasis on John and Luke that the Lord himself says is his Body and Blood being offered as a sacrifice which we eat and drink each Mass. Everything else is veneration compared to Jesus since no sacrifices are made to saints or Mary.
The rosary is prayed to reflect upon the life of Jesus and Scriptures that each Mystery is based on while reciting Scriptures in the prayers of the “Our Father” and the “Hail Mary” which is in Luke 1 and the woman in the crowd exclaiming “blessed is the womb that bore you.” The first miracle Jesus ever did was at the petition of his mother to honor her as his mother the 4th commandment tells us to do. To say that Jesus had no mother means that he was not fully human and thus his death meant nothing in the cross as God fulfilled his promise in Genesis in that the offspring of Eve and Adam would defeat the Devil and conquer sin. Now I get where you are coming from in that it’s a mystery in itself how God can fully be Divine and yet still take in our human nature fully without being part of sin and evil to this very moment.
@@Justyouraverageguy172 Jesus said the greatest commandment You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. What He was saying is He wants to be put first. We are to love him more than our spouse, our family, our job. Even Mary. Not once in the Bible did Jesus ever give Mary precedence over anyone. Not even the disciples. In fact not once did He ever talk about her to His disciples. Why is it that whenever she was around, no one ever gave her any praise or special treatment? It’s not like they didn’t know who she was. Even a woman once shouted out to Jesus saying Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you."Luke 11:27 Jesus could’ve easily agreed to what she was saying But he said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!". Remember Jesus actually has full authority over Mary. He CAN say no to Mary. Even though Catholics believe He never would.
@@Justyouraverageguy172 why do Catholics always give praise to Mary when Jesus performed His first miracle? All she did was relay a message. Mary didn’t know what He was going to do. She didn’t demand Him to do something. He did it because He compassion on her. Not because He loved her more than anyone else. Jesus loved everyone the same. Not once did He ever give her any special treatment just because she was His earthly mother.
@@dionoramYou answer your own question if you about “Mary not getting any special treatment” when you look at it again in pieces and read it. The Scriptures are about God, Jesus, and our relationship to Him for salvation and not Mary. The only times we do see Mary emphasize important Truths such as Jesus telling apostle John when he dies on the Cross in John’s Gospel behold your mother and behold your son thus affirming the Catholic tradition and teachings on Mary since she is our spiritual mother and God our father. Jesus came to fulfill the Law thus that means the 10 Commandments as well as everything. For your second question, the Wedding at Cana relays the role of Mary importantly in that is what Mary does is lead those who ask her for help to her son and thus as the Mother of God. Mary is called the “Theotokos” meaning the “God Bearer” for a reason in that she is both Jesus’s earthly mother but also the Mother of God. Nestorianism is the heresy that just says Mary gave birth to Jesus on earth but is not the Mother of God. The early Church community was very clear that Mary is of special significance in that she is fully human and not divine yet perfect and fully bore God in human form fulfilling God’s promise to Eve and Adam in Genesis to defeat Satan through their human offspring while still being God.
Please find out what worship means. What are his conditions. Perhaps then you will realize that the true biblical worship of God is missing in your denomination. And that there is a huge difference between worship and veneration.
That’s why Roman Catholicism removes the second commandment: Exodus 20 4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
