It'll be a great upgrade to the Reverb G2 I got as Windows Mixed Reality is going away 2026. With hopefully little fuss during the switch to the PSVR2.

They are saying you need PS5 as well to do it, so idk if it's really saving you much money

It's crazy that index is still an option. I lost count how old it is yet it is still one of the only wired pcvr option out there.

@@chan13153 Honestly, I would be willing to pay ~70 dollars for it. Spec-wise, the PSVR2 is going head-to-head with the 500 dollar Quest 3. The Eye Tracking and the Haptics make it worth it for me, assuming it has none of the Quest's performance overhead from Link.

@@Breakdown5297 While eye tracking, oled sounds good IDK if I would trade it to have to go back to fresnel lens and the cable. After owning a Quest 3 and a wifi 6e router IDK if I want to go backwards with the lens and being tethered. I dont own a PSVR2 but I hear the lens are worse than the Q2. Very tiny sweet spot. Not to mention Mura. Q3 clarity is amazing. Also wireless freedom. My router is good so I set bitrate to 500 on VD and it looks super sharp and barely any compression artifacts.

@@chan13153 Unfortunately, Wifi 6e routers are still incredibly expensive. Where I live, the cheapest ones are nearly 300 dollars. Combine that with the cost of the quest 3, and it would have been cheaper to just buy a PSVR from the get-go

I too hope it's as simple as getting a dongle/breakout box and download some software to get the PSVR2 features like iris tracker. Think the VrChat crowd would love that.

I mean, they made a breakout box for the psvr1 on ps5, so it might be possible

Get a Quest 3 and you get much better sweet spot and edge to edge clearity and wireless. Psvr2 has very bad mura and small sweet spot lense. If oled is all you care then i guess psvr 2 but too much sacrafice

@@ji3200 The point is that he has a PS5 and PC already. I would take the games on PS5 vs. any benefit of using a Quest 3. And Meta bricked the ability of my Quest 2 to play on PC with an update that lasted 6 months before they fixed it, and the whole time they blamed the users in the forums. Never again.

Your happy with the offering from PSVR2? Started out fine with Village, Horizon and GT7 but since then there hasn't been much. RE4 was the last big release but the main issue is whats there to come? Sony hasn't announced anything from their own studios in 2024 and beyond. And they just had a PS direct a few weeks ago.

@@chan13153 so yes that goes the same for PS5 flat games too for first party, PSVR got all those you mentioned and Horizon call of the mountain, Pavlov, No Man’s Sky, Runner, Switchback, Crossfire Sierra Squad, Synapse, Barbara, Saints and Sinners, The Light Brigade, Song and the Smoke, Demeo, Walkabout, SynthRiders and currently Legendary Tales is crazy fun! Not to mention upgrades like Tetris crisis brigade, swordsman, moss, the list goes on. And now all the newly announced games and we still don’t know what first party has in store, that’s exciting! Do you know of some headset that has a better line up? Lmk

Asgard's wrath, Asgard's Wrath 2, Half Life Alyx, ContractorsVR, RE4, Lone Echo, Stormland, Assassins Creed, Onward, Beat saber, Dungeons of Eternity, Breachers, Pop One, Creed, Doom VFR, Saints and Sinners, RE praydog Mods, Half Life 2 VR, Bone works/Bone labs, Vertigo 2 etc I would say Asgard's Wrath 1+2, Half life Alyx and ContractorsVR destroys the entire PSVR2 lineup. From your list take out Crossfire, Switch back, those games are trash. And I woudn't say thats exciting how theres nothing announced for 2024 and beyond from sony. Thats scary as well. Sony has a history of abandoning hardware if it doesn't do well. I wouldn't pick up a PSVR2 right now if all you own is a PS5. WAy to risky and the reason why I haven't picked on up yet. Also sony first party offerings havent been very good. Fire wall ultra, Horizon, switch back are way to tech demo for my liking.

Yeah I prefer this, ain’t much more there I’m interested in I can’t just play on Q2, I’m just fine with this and I’m not trying to buy a spendy PC and fuck with settings all day I like plug and play I ain’t got time for all that tinkering, and I wouldn’t trade GT7 and RE8 and RE4 for any of that. Also I can’t go back from the OLED, even after trying Returnal with a quest 3 and some prey dog mods at my homies I wasn’t all that moved yet. I’ll ride my PSVR2 until something more compelling comes along. What PCVR exclusives are you looking forward to? You seem jaded? Also many of these games are old.

Other considerations -- a PS5 can't even come close to driving the PSVR2 at a resolution high enough to really let the headset show what it's capable of. People's opinions of it may change dramatically once they see their Steam library powered by a 4090 into the PSVR2 headset at native 120hz and oversampled resolution without the gross reprojection the console suffers from

​@mazzola Agree and to put it into perspective. A PS5 can to 10.3 TFlops, my ROG Ally does 8.3 and an RTX 4060 rocks 15 TFlops, so the PS5 is technically an old PC these days. And people seems to have forgotten: The PSVR2 has eye-tracking, so about 30% better performance than without and the streaming to a Quest 3 needs additional resources.

I absolutely HATE the PSVR2 Fresnel lenses... To say nothing of the horrendously blurry diffusion layer Sony put behind them to try and obfuscate the worst impacts of their "only 2x subpixels per pixel" PenTile layout displays. Yes, PSVR2 actually has LESS total subpixels than even the many years old Quest 2! (Aka, what ACTUALLY MATTERS for "perceived resolution/clarity" in VR, NOT whole pixel resolution!) If Sony had used modern crystal clear edge-to-edge pancake lenses plus custom RGB-stripe OLEDs like they had made for the original PSVR1 even if they had to be lower whole pixel resolution (vs straight off the shelf Samsung PenTile panels no different than what's on any high end phone), it would have been a massively, MASSIVELY better headset!!! 🤷 (And like half as big to boot!)

@@Cooe. I guess it's subjective. I've owned every commercial headset there is, and while I agree that pancake is the future, PSVR2 has the most comfortable fresnel optical stack I've seen. I prefer it to Quest 3 and Quest Pro in direct comparison. Again, the edge-to-edge clarity of pancake is nice, but I prioritize comfort in terms of pupil swim / eye strain / stereo overlap above all else, and in this regard, PSVR2 is the winner before even factoring in FoV. I struggle to believe that you can see the difference between Pentile and RGB subpixel arrangements in modern resolution headsets. Also, the original PSVR used an aspheric optic, not pancake.

@@julianmazzola IMO, Meta's Quest 2 & 3 have MORE than adequate stereo-overlap (haven't used the Pro enough to comment) at like ≈60-75%, IPD setting depending. This isn't even remotely CLOSE to an "HTC Vive Pro 2 w/ it's mere ≈30-40% overlap" kind of situation we're talking about here. 🤷 And the absolutely HORRENDOUS (as in worse than CV1/OG Vive) mura/"dark smear" from Sony's "straight off-the-shelf" Samsung PenTile AMOLED phone panels MORE than counteracts any advantages PSVR2 has in terms of pupil swim or eye-strain for me. And significantly dampens the one area where it should have a SLAM DUNK advantage over its LCD based competition (aka in very dark scenes that you'd think would play to OLED strengths, but unless it's mostly mura-free Micro-OLED, they really just don't 🤷). I also don't personally notice it to be any less eye-straining anyways. If anything the exact opposite due to the AWFUL clarity of the lenses outside the miniscule sweet-spot in the very center. This means that I have to strain my eyes when looking at anything outside the very center of the lens OR not move my eyes around the lens at all and only move my vision using my head/neck, which totally fucking sucks.

Only cheaper alternative if you ignore the Q3 and even Q2. Q3 is a great PCVR headset. Full wireless PCVR is hard to beat if you have a wifi 6e router (VD: 500 bitrate H.264+, 200bitrate AV1). And the cable route is good too once you set the bitrate to 960. Also I highly doubt something like steam link would ever come to PS5. Wouldn't make much sense.

Still not a lot. The breakout box is the only really feasible option if they truly want to make it compatible with PCVR.

I have used just about everything. Get the quest pro or quest 3. I upgraded from my varjo vr3 to a quest pro. Yes, upgraded. The psvr2 is cool, but in no way equal to the quest pro or quest 3. Even with those not having dp connection

... They sell the headset at BEST at cost... They don't make money selling them, only on the games. Aka this is Sony throwing in the towel on PSVR2 and accepting it won't ever be profitable. They aren't trying to make money off this, but just give something of a consolation prize to anyone unlucky enough to buy into Sony's abandoned VR platform. 🤷 "PSVR" is absolutely dead aside from the occasional Quest port when you are lucky and the developers feeling nice.

Also, foveated rendering requires explicit game by game implemented support all the way down to the engine level, ya flipping dingus... 🤦😑 And this support is very much NOT TRIVIAL to code in, being a multiple month "all-programmers-on-deck" affair for major game studios ala Hello Games, let ALONE indie devs! Foveated rendering for PSVR2 will be almost entirely a nothing-burger on PC. 🤷 Anyone expecting otherwise or better performance efficiency because of the eye-tracking is in for a RUUUUDE awakening.

@MetalDeathHead I can say exact opposite and overall experience for me has been massively positive , although I exclusively use it for GT7 and with steering wheel and racing seat you kind of get so much sucked into action I don't get bothered by the imperfections. I have not tried new gen vrs and my rift s wasn't too bad, but psvr2 is miles ahead of that.

According to iVry, the guy responsible for making an unofficial PCVR driver for the PSVR 2 said the inside-out tracking is done inside the headset. So the controllers are more than likely also tracked internally as well.

it already has reviews. Have experience with both headsets. In general Q3 is better. PSVR 2 has higher highs and lower lows, more specialized headset. I think that even if they allow full PCVR experience, it won't include their improve haptics and eye tracking in most games. I however would be glad to use OLED screen with dark PCVR games.

HDR and tracking will work for basically no games. The headset is wired. The screen quality isn't as good as the quest as there's halo effect. In my opinion the controllers are worse. The quest can swap controller batteries. The psvr cost a lot more than the quest 3. There's no reason to get this headset.

​@@gunsalves there's a different halo effect in Q3 too, some kind of false reflection of the bright image. From my point of view generally Q3 controllers are better, but in combination with the haptics and adaptive triggers PSVR2 controllers have an edge. Batteries are very arguable plus. For me it is always easier to charge controllers than to swap batteries (which I also charge, but separately). I think most of people has PSVR 2 controller charger. As of wire - not for everyone's setup wireless option is stable. It is good to have one. Especially for fitness or more active games. As for me PSVR 2 is not for active games, so wire is not a problem, and even a plus for stability and compression reducement. As of HDR - I dunno will it be or not, I suppose it can work even without HDR support in the game. But I think it is not a good feature to begin with. Most of my friends were annoyed by it :) So yeah, this PCVR connection feature will unlikely motivate people to buy a headset, but it is a good present for some people who already own the headset and also have gaming PC.

At this point, I think it's a safe bet that PSVR3 will work with PS5 + PS6 + PC, making it a pretty desirable headset if the other features and price are there, especially if they're still doing VR exclusives, which is highly likely.

It's 100% going to be adapter of some kind. Even if it weren't technologically required, they would do it just to sell you another product... I'll be there day 1. lol (PS5, PC, PSVR2, Quest 2 owner who will never use the Quest 2 again once support is launched)

OLED (good) plus mura (bad). Shit sweet spot. Compared to something like Quest 3. Much better off with the latter I would imagine if you're planning on PC VR gaming and don't care for what's on PS5.

IMO quest because of the lenses and wireless play. We will see how this all shakes out with sony though because we're talking 'later in the year' for support. By that point hopefully we have a wireless + micro oled headset.

@@Healthy_TokiSony isn't going to announce a wireless micro OLED PSVR3 1.5 years after PSVR2. That would be stupid.

I lately wanted to buy a Quest 3 to get something more up to date from my steam VR and quest 2... Now I will wait a bit to see if they make this working on PC without the need for a PS5... Because if they do, I will buy this instantly.
