I just wanted to say thank you for easing my stress in this very busy season lol. My father-in-law comes over every weekend and tells me that I have to put my potatoes in. I keep telling him that I’ll get what I get and it’s more important to get things in place that I need to properly grow them, I thought I was lying, so thank you for ending that argument in my head 😂

Front range Colorado weather has been unpredictable as ever. This video calmed us down a bit, getting all of the winter/summer squash in over the weekend. The tomatoes and peppers are under makeshift hail guard. Thanks for always providing a calm voice of reason and great content!

Great! I’m in zone 5 (Montreal) and I’m only transplanting all my seedlings this weekend. I can’t do it before then, as we still get some cold nights in May. But I can see my tomatoes are begging to be put in the ground!

We haven't put our peppers in yet because of the cold and they are screaming at me to get them out of the pots and into the ground!! LOL!

It's good to have the ability to have do-overs! I planted winter squash, and had only one come up, so I replanted the other day, knowing it would be fine. I did the same with cantaloupe that didn't come up. Our weather has been off here. We had rain, rain, rain near the end of April and first week of May. So when it finally took a break, I started putting my plants in first, because they were really getting big. But the sun was very hot. Even though the temps weren't that high, a lot of the smaller plants really suffered, even with watering. I didn't lose lots of plants, but when you baby those little things for weeks and weeks, you get attached! I also had ground squirrels digging up new plants. Makes me so mad! My cats are trying, but we must have a whole lot of them! Plus bunnies! I did sit down on Friday and worked on what I would like to plant for my fall garden. I looked up first frost, and the first 10-hour day, and wrote down maturity times for each one. I enjoy that work. I have a small greenhouse that I'll be using instead of my seedling mats to start plants for fall.

I have been going through your older videos. I love these "what you can plant in this month" videos. I'm running out of space, but will start my winter squashes. Can I direct seed, or should I start them indoors? I am in 7a, Tooele county.
@StoneyAcresGardening
@StoneyAcresGardening Месяц назад
Just direct sow them. Now is the time for you. The sooner the better. I put all my seeds in early this week.

Thanks for the encouragement, I still haven’t gotten a lot planted in my garden, but I’m working on it. However, my peas that I planted in our very warm February are almost big enough to pick, I’m excited about that! And I did get garlic in last year. I haven’t grown it before, so I’m watching to see when it might be close to being ready. The garden k variety hasn’t put up scapes yet, so I guess it will be a while.

Curious what you think of indoor tower gardens for winter. I live in a short garden season climate so I’m thinking about biting the bullet and buying one

First I would like to say I love your video's. They are the most informative and comprehensive I have found. Being new to gardening, I need someone who describes things in detail. My question is: I have 2 4x2 1' deep. wooden boxes. One is places behind the other. It's one of 2 spots that get sun. The trees are growing so tall and I cant touch them. They are in wet lands. I have 2 blueberry bushes, one grape, one raspberry and one blackberry bush. I don't know what to plant in each. I do have some sun in one other spot. I have plenty of materials for a trellis. Please advise. The plants are getting big and need to be planted very soon. Thank you so much for your time and knowledge. Nadine

Is it better to wait a little longer to sow squash to avoid squash bugs?
@StoneyAcresGardening
@StoneyAcresGardening Месяц назад
That is totally dependent on the bugs life cycle in your area, which I don't know so I can't help. Sorry.
@DawnaRo
@DawnaRo Месяц назад
I have had fantastic success with avoiding squash bugs by rotating where I plant them and keeping them covered with bug netting until they bloom. Give it a try. I had horrible problems with squash bugs until I used these two things.

I would get it in soon if you're first frost date is around the middle of October or powdery mildew moves in. I planted late last year June 22 and some pumpkins were still green and I didn't have enough time to let the squash cure.

@SiljeMeum Месяц назад
You say "Plant those squashes", does that mean that it's too late to sow those seeds?
@StoneyAcresGardening
@StoneyAcresGardening Месяц назад
No, I meant by seed. Normally you direct sow squash, they don't do very well when transplanted.
