I realize this song has been covered (A LOT), but you gotta know it's for good reason! The older I get, the more I understand the feeling behind the words to this one, and I'm just amazed at how McCartney penned this with so few years to his credit at the time. I've read several theories about the song's inspiration, but even Paul claims to not really know where it came from. No matter, anyone who has ever longed for a day gone by can instantly relate, and I suspect that pretty much describes every adult I've ever met. I love the here and now, and even more the days the come, but there are times when I too long for yesterday. So, here's my rendition added to the endless list of covers, and I hope it honors it in some small way.
Special thanks to Adam Rafferty for inspiring this arrangement. This is very close to his, with a few subtle changes that just suit my own interpretation. Adam is a very gifted and generous arranger, and he's a guitar player's guitar player. Check out his page @ / crescentridge if you like what you see here. I like every arrangement he does, but I'm still particularly captivated by what he does with his Stevie Wonder covers.
