This video is for people suffering from recent knee surgeries/injuries. This is also a GREAT practice for people with broken wrists/suffering from wrist injuries, who are unable to practice a traditional yoga pose. This 20 minute yoga flow takes all pressure off the hands and knees and allows us to meet our bodies exactly where we're at!
This video represents a deeply personal practice that Lauren engaged in while she was on crutches. She wants to share this practice with the world so that others with similar situations know that yoga is ALWAYS available to any one. With any body. Any Injury. ANY TIME.

Thank you so much!! It is really rare to find a yoga video that understands my knee limitations/pain so I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it!! 😍😍😍😍

Thanks. I am 65 but used to be much more active. I had a knee replacement which had a lot of difficulties and then discovered I had to have a kidney removed. Then discovered I had injured 4 disks in my back and my arthritis is giving me fits. I am slowly coming back from all this. I discovered your site and read the comment one person left about this video being the only one that really understood knee injuries. I started your program today, could only go for 5 minutes but it felt good to do even that. Thank you. I am glad you are better.

I feel you. I also learned that yoga is not for injury recoveries or for loose weight. That might be a tailor made yoga therapy session. People confuse the real purpose of yoga, prepare the body for meditation (alongside a deep life philosophy) but there’s nothing more frustrating when people see their yoga teachers as physiotherapists (or phycologist) and expect that a group class will fix their injuries.

Lauren has helped me do some amazing things in just a matter of days. I've had knee problems/surgeries since childhood that have limited my strength and flexibility. I never thought yoga would be possible with my cranky knees but this video is a fabulous way to start. Lauren, in just five days I have become stronger in my core and legs, and more flexible in all my joints. And I dont feel like a fool losing my balance with some standing poses. Thank you so much.

This is also great for alignment. Triangle pose on the floor really forces that "between 2 sheets of glass" posture. Fabulous!

I have never cared for yoga, even when my knees DID work. I am now 4 years post- bilateral knee replacements and have been desperate to find some stretching exercises that would help my core and keep me flexible (I'm 58.). I found this video and the stretches looked comfortable and helpful and doable. Gave it a go and am sooo happy that I did. THANK YOU! Very nice job.

This is my first time trying Yoga. I have been an athlete for several years and I have always lifted weights and utilized cardio for my workouts. Well, age being what it is and my numerous knee injuries (as well as other injuries) over the years, I found myself in a wheel chair gaining weight. I couldn't stand for longer that 5 minutes and the pain would leave sweat running down my back. So, I had both of my knees replaced. I had an excellent surgeon who did an excellent job. However, now is the painful process of losing weight in my later 50's. Because of my weight and stress (and resulting high blood pressure) my doctor has suggested Yoga. Many times... and many times more. I have now found you. I hope you have more videos for people with knee problems.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Lauren you are brilliant. I had meniscus surgery 5 months ago and truly felt like there was "no place for me in yoga" anymore. Just as you stated. This series of reclined sun salutations, chair pose, wide angle stretch and triangle poses are genius! You brought me back to moving my body again in a yogic way. I love your quote "even if we may not be in our tip top shape there is still so much we can do" That touched my heart and I thank you for that. Namaste

This yoga video was great! I had knee surgery about two months ago and this is really helping me get back into the groove of things. If you guys are taking video suggestions I would really love to see y'all do a yoga video that works on strengthening the knees and strengthening the muscles that surround the knees to prevent further injury. Maybe some kind of poses that gradually work me in to a gentle squat or a Gentle Bend. Thanks!!

This is a fantastic video - thank you! One problem I've had is even *getting* onto the floor, though. Because of a tibial plateau fracture on my left knee, I had to be non-weight bearing for nearly three months, which also weakened my good knee. And, since I had a severe distal radial fracture in my left arm as well, I still can't put weight on my left hand. Once I can safely get onto the floor, though, I look forward to doing this fabulous sequence. Thanks again!

2nd question- how do we know when us knee injured folks are "ok" to not do the variations? I'm about 8 months past a meniscus microtear, and it's taken almost that much time to get a significant bend in my left knee without significant pain. 0_0 Now, my joint is almost ok with a full bend (cannot wait to be able to do full child's pose!) But sometimes the body is weird and doesn't feel a twinge 'til after practicing. I'll ice to ease any pressure or little swelling.
@yogatx
@yogatx 9 лет назад
Latiana Blue Lauren again - I recommend that you talk to your doctor to make sure that you are cleared for practice! Even years after injury, sometimes my knee still flares up and I just have to be mindful to take a step back and practice safely with modifications sometimes. This allows us to practice what I call the yoga marathon (rather than a full out yoga sprint/causing another injury) and continue practicing for life. Child's pose was definitely the pose I missed most in my practice on crutches! When the knees are twinging in child's pose, I recommend you support the hips with a few blankets or pillows. This takes a lot of the pressure off the knees and reduces the severity of the bend in your knees as well!

+Susanne Newton So glad this helped you! Feel free to check out any of the videos on our channel and see if any resonate with you. You're welcome to check out my complete beginners series, which is also good for just stabilizing and gently engaging with yoga postures, not just for beginners :). Meditation and breathing videos can be great for helping your body relax too, which can in turn help provide relief for upset/gassy tummies and overworked digestive systems. Stress can really mess up our digestion, so really any video you find that can help you reduce your stress should (hopefully!) help your digestion as well! Give some a try and let me know what you think.

Dear Lauren thank you so much for sharing, after a motorbike accident this 20 min of yoga are the bright side of my day :) :) One question: why do you exhale through your mouth?
@Lauren-mh7ch
@Lauren-mh7ch 9 лет назад
That's such great news! This practice brought so much joy to my life after my injury, so I'm glad to know others are finding peace in it too. Sometimes I exhale through my mouth because I find that it helps me to focus more on my breathing and release a little bit more stress. Other times it's just because I've gotten into the habit a bit when I teach so my students can hear the breath and remember to breathe deeper themselves :)

@searchfortheperhaps4570
@searchfortheperhaps4570 9 лет назад
Chair pose is GREAT for strengthening the muscles around the knee. Just be sure to ease into it and make the knee alignment your first priority with the knees directly over the toes. Tree pose is another fabulous way to strengthen the legs, just be sure to rest the lifted foot either above or below the standing leg's knee, not directly on the knee! Hope this helps and let me know what you think!

I was very excited to find this video, as I have not been able to do very much since my surgery. However, I am twelve weeks post full knee replacement surgery and I cannot even get onto the floor. I have been doing the exercises on my bed as best I can but don't feel I am getting the full benefit from the exercises being on such a soft surface, but am still feeling better for them.

Anne, this is Lauren. First, let me say you are amazing and it's wonderful to hear how you are modifying this flow for your own body! By simply breathing and moving, with the intention to flow into these poses, you are practicing yoga in a very real and mindful way. You are still stretching and engaging your muscles, even from on your bed, so please don't be too hard on yourself! You could also try my chair yoga video and let me know what you think. Please keep modifying your yoga practice to fit your body and your needs! After all, I'm only a guide, and you are the true and only master of your own body :). Namaste!

Thank you for this yoga lesson. I had a total knee replacement about a year ago so most yoga positions are no longer an option for me. I am really happy to have found your video and hope you will post more of the same.

I appreciated this a lot as a beginner who has had lots of knee surgeries. I have very loose joints but not so strong muscles. I would love to see a video about how to protect overly loose joints. How do you strengthen the muscles without putting the joints in danger of injury?

+Nadine Rogers Hi Nadine! I posted this on another viewer's comment, but thought it might be helpful for you as well, and could provide some options for stabilizing and strengthening your knee joints: Chair pose is GREAT for strengthening the muscles around the knee.

I have to say I got ACL reconstructive surgery last Tuesday, and had my meniscus tear cut away. I started this video on Thursday and couldn't do much involving my right leg. And today, ahhhh exciting moment on recovery journey!! I've been getting increased bend in my knee, but the most struggling part is I haven't been able to lift my heel off the floor with out some sort of assistance since surgery. Yoday I was doing this video and for the first time my leg lifted and as the workout progressed I got it to go straight into the air, and pretty much did the entire practice yaaay!

+Tiara Hairston this is awesome to hear! It takes time for our muscles to regain strength and recover, and kudos to YOU for having the patience and perseverance to keep practicing! Hope your knee feels better soon :)

This looks like a great routine. Great message too! I would add that it would be a good idea to check with your physical therapist , if you have one, before you try it. I want to start today, but at age 67 and nearly five weeks post op I am not sure if I could get on the floor and get back up again. I look forward to getting the green light to do these poses with you!

Absolutely. It is necessary to consult with a doctor or physician before starting any new workout/exercise regiment.

Thank you so much! I love these adaptations! Nursing a knee injury at present and was starting to feel really down that I couldn't do anything active. This has really helped me reconnect to my body and feel more grounded.

Namaste. It has been months of daily pain, swelling, surgery, physical therapy and pure exhaustion! I wish I had found this video a long time ago. Torn meniscus and dislocated patella which has caused firing pain in my hips, swelling down my leg into my ankles. Some days my ankles are so swollen I can not put on (or take off) my shoes. This of course has also caused sleep problems as well. This has brought my spirit down and some days it feels better to just do nothing. I am very active person and the sluggish habits that this injury has caused frighten me. I am finally at the point where I am feeling well enough that I want to exercise on my own again. These exercises are exactly what I need! Thank you. I want to hug you right now!!!!

Also be sure to check out some of our meditation videos, as well as my intro to breathing and chair yoga videos, all of which you can do either on the floor, on a bed or in a chair 😀. That was fantatic! Thank you so much, my knee felt so much better today after this routine and even my fysio therapist agreed that today I was much more flexible and could do much more. I am super stoked...do you have more related knee ingury videos? I had curciate ligament rupture and a meniscus tear in the front knee..so I still walk on crutches and I am only allowed to bend it 90degree.....

Thank you so much for this video. I hope you produce more videos for those of us who have suffered knee and ankle injuries. In my case, this helped me pre and post knee surgery. It also helped to improve my mood and encouraged a very active person that even during a difficult time I can continue to do good things for my body.

Awesome flow! I've been super bummed as I blew my ACL several weeks ago and have been pretty sedentary as I prep for surgery, other than leg lifts etc.. I was blown away that I got all of the same feelings and muscle activation as a standing practice, but no pain to my grapefruit knee! I'll be sharing this with my Physical Therapist so she can recommend it to other knee patients. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
