In this illuminating and thought-provoking examination of the uniquely American institution of marriage, Marcia Zug explores how Americans hold marriage in such high esteem that we push people toward it, reward them for taking part in it, and fetishize its benefits. In YOU’LL DO, Zug presents “a fresh, engaging social history” (Kirkus Reviews) of marriage, and how we have routinely ignored or excused bad behavior and societal ills in the name of protecting and promoting it.
Copies of YOU’LL DO: A HISTORY OF MARRYING FOR REASONS OTHER THAN LOVE are available for purchase through the Mark Twain Store; proceeds benefit The Mark Twain House & Museum. Books will be shipped after the event. We regret that we are NOT able to ship books outside the United States as it is cost-prohibitive to do so. _____________________________________________________________
