This is epic..... each toy carries a story and gives the sense of honor for beloved items. Your grandchildren will one day adore the visual story captured with love. Thanks for the inspiration!

Three weeks ago I felt I had to do something about my painting style. It had felt to me I got stuck somewhere in between without moving forward. So I decided to paint something completely different. In my region there is a lovely bar and they have these wonderful looking drinks and cocktails. I took my camera, made some shots and painted them in my tiny studio. Furthermore, I pushed me by giving a time limit of 1 hour per drink. It was so fascinating to focus on the primary forms, tones and values. Additionally, I love the new paintings really much, because they are so different than my paintings before. To be true, I needed 2 hours per painting because I loved to dip in the details of lighting and reflection. As I viewed your video I thought "what a coincidence and I totally agree"! Nevertheless I have to learn so much more to archieve paintings with such impressive look and richness, like yours. Thanks Andrew Tischler for your guidance and inspiration. Regards, Marc

I can't begin to tell you how much I loved this video. It appealed to the grandma in me. You have captured a time in your childs life that is so quickly fleeting. You will be able to look on it fondly when he is no longer toddling around. I started a portrait of my son when he was little with his beloved teddy bear, but I didn't finish it and so wish I would have. You have painted such beautiful work and are such a skilled artist.

I like this because its basically a portrait of your kid. Everytime you look at it it will act as a memory prompt to all the moments your kid played with these.

I know it's cliche to say a painting "moved you to tears," but I did get a little emotional looking at the finished product. It got me thinking about my childhood and remembering toys that I cherished. Some I still have to this day. You're a true master of light and shadow, Andrew. Thank you for pouring yourself into the great resource that is your channel. I cant wait to see what Tisch Academy has to offer!!

Funny seeing this vid just now as for the past few days Ive been doing exactly this. I usually paint figurative but when in between paintings which take more planning ill usually paint a simply one piece still life of something such as a figure or toy I have for decoration. just lately ive been getting the urge to compose larger still lifes with toys and commercial such objects of our times. Ive even been going around thrift shops with fresh eyes looking for random toys or odd things as opposed to the usual 'glass, vases, etc etc

Fascinating approach to using found objects as subject matter. It could make for an interesting and instructive exercise for a painter to have a child/grandchild, SO or friend scavenge several random objects from around the home, garden, garage, etc, then create a painting using some or all of those objects. 🤔😀

Its definitely a self attitude. I'm very firmly in the landscape corner but still life, any form of still life from flowers to just a group of sauce bottles, is where I do the most of my learning & discovery. If your like me & you show up every single day for yourself those "boring" still life's are the techniques you carry with you outside into plein air sketching and painting. If you see it as boring then give yourself a pep talk and change your mindset to seeing it as opportunity.

Concerning lack of material? The painter Richard Estes popped into mind immediately. He took a camera around NYC and took everyday shots. Then took them back to his studio for oil study. Innovative approach Andrew, it could easily be adapted to the old master's shadow box studies.

Andrew, i think I love this video , and all that you've said, more than almost any other !! i live in new york, about half hour outside of the city.. epic natural beauty isn't in my immediate area.. i take drives to find a lovely scene , often.. But , I find that even the most " mundane" things of life each have beauty and have lessons to teach us, as artists.. I've painted and sketched my coffee cup pour over filter at least 100 times , in different mediums, with different approaches, and I learn each time .. Onions , beets, garlic , the outside of my building where I live .. endless ... I think many people keep thinking they need to wait for some exquisite scenery , before painting , and it's just not realistic goal, to me.. I also tend to think that they're setting themselves up to fail, or not progress, if they keep waiting for some perfect scene( whatever that even means truly eludes me) .. those scenes are all around us, on a daily basis .. I feel very lucky to be able to notice it and to be inspired by the simplest things of life.. This painting of yours is so touching and beautifully painted.. well done!!! Thank you for your thoughts and advice, tips , with this video.. I am Norakag 👍👍👍

Go visit a fine arts museum in a large city and see the subjects used by the old masters, especially the impressionists. Women washing. Children playing. A cafe scene. A haystack. They took plain ordinary scenes and made masterpieces of them. There is no shortage of subject matter!

Terrific piece and close up camera work! Great stuff the Oleogel been using it for many years, no more smelly alkyd based medium like Liquin. Oleogel is useful too for providing more open time for some of the faster drying pigments especially earth colors. Check out the fantastic vintage tin toy still life paintings by one of the original Photorealist painters, Charles Bell.

what seems interesting to me in these paintings on the unpretentious subject, just for a little fun, is that in these cases we feel less the pressure of "I must succeed", so the painting is only more successful.
