Hey I was the guy with the V, Tele and Washburn! So to sum it up, the Washburn is a 1999 Made in Korea CS-780 Chicago series. Got it at a small shop in Illinois, upgraded the pickups (Bridge: JD Fortitude, Mid: Air Nortan S, Neck: 36th Anniversary) and the Floyd with a Gotoh Floyd. For some reason the original owner installed a silver Jackson licensed Floyd but I decided to change it. The Telecaster is actually a 1987 MIJ 61? 62? Reissue! I got it as a gift from my cousin since his father in law didn’t want it anymore, it’s a fantastic guitar! And yes, the V is a 1991 Hendrix HOF V. It has his signature in the corner, and the trust rod cover says “393 out of 400”, got it at Cream City Music this summer! As for the amp, it’s honestly fucking fantastic! I really enjoy the tone and versatilities I can get out of it. Went from a Marshall Code 50 to this and I can’t go back man. Got it for $1800 on Reverb!
I feel like Washburn has had an identity crisis ever since they lost Dime as a signature artist back in 2003/4. They seemed to be getting back on track with the Ola signatures but then he went and started his own company. It’s a shame because they’re one of the oldest guitar companies in the US but they barely have any presence in the market these days.
We dual tracked my band's 3rd album with a 30w Kraken and my 50w 6l6 5150III. The Kraken is a really cool head, sounds brutal! A bit more raw and slightly fizzier and loose compared to my EVH but that head is notoriously tight and the Victory is still plenty tight itself. It has a bit more character IMO. And we didn't even use any TS9 or OD in front of both! Get one if you can, I highly doubt you'll regret it!
Nice video as usual Hunter. You wanted to be educated on Washburn? Short answer, try one, they're great guitars. They have been around a VERY long time. Longer than some of the big names. I'm sure you know that solar is based on the Washburn parallaxe platform, so that should be enough to interest any player, as solar guitars are amazing. They make a single cut, and I really think you should demo one. Rock on brother.
The Washburn's I have tried have been really good, my mate had a 7 string with EMGs and it was amazing, really nice to play really good sound, and I remember watching a PMT review of a metal focused single cut Washburn did, and it sounded and looked awesome!
Washburn also has a particularly cool product in the PXS29-7FRDSAM model, which is a 29-fret 7-string model. The brown-stained swamp ash finish is also very pretty.
So relatable how disorganised this channel is sometimes :D Keep it up. When you cut to later in time you could have worn the same T shirt and then seen if anyone noticed your hair cut changed halfway through.
I feel like the finish it's has more weight than the body shape in making a guitar look modern or "old". Like, for myself, a tobacco burdt screams grandpa guitar regarless of the shape lol
Washburn is a great guitar company. Even though I already own a second-hand Chicago Series KC-45, which is a pretty cool guitar, now I'm thinking about searching for an N4 or the affordable N2 version. Why? Because I'm big a fan of Nuno Bettencourt's work.
Also, I have that exact Cutlass. Phenomenal guitar, and I find the single coil bridge pup a breath of fresh air haha the heavy tones just sound that much nastier
Surprised someone Hunter's age already got his 5G booster system installed. I'm way older than him and have only had 2 versions, and in the UK we were early adopters of 5G.
There have actually been a ton of players that were signed with washburn back in the day. Like the guy from mudvayne, dimebag, Scott ian from anthrax, dan Donegan from disturbed, and i think there were a few others. I love the ones that i have
I love strat type guitars. Music Man are obviously high quality strats, but looks wise they rank below Yamahas to me. I think the Silver Skys look the best, followed by Fender then Ibanez. MM s are just goofy lookin'
Older Washburns are great... MIA, MIJ or MIK with decent hardware for a reasonable price (far less than many used Indonesian guitars). I personally like the Washburn branded passive "emgs" on some of their Samick manufactured guitars from the 80s.
I’m 16, I was in a grunge band at 14 on my first week playing, the rhythm guitarist played a $700 blue Washburn with 24 frets HH while I played a squier tele affinity with 21 frets that only knew 311 riffs and enter sandman
My top three companies I like in guitars under $600.00 are Epiphone,Dean, Ibanez. Much lower price than that Quality Control is hit and miss except on Ibanez.
Old Washburn endorsees were Dimebag Darrell (Pantera), Paul Stanley (Kiss), Michael Angelo Batio (Nitro), Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson) & Nick Catanese (Black Label Society), just to name a few.
Regarding your MusicMan vs. Fender discussion: Leo Fender was involved in the MusicMan corporation in the 70s after leaving his own Fender company. So you can see MusicMan instruments as the true evolution of the original Fender guitars.
I’ve got a 90s Washburn acoustic and it’s probably my favorite acoustic I’ve played, but other than that I’ve got no experience with the brand but I’ve heard they’re alright for the price
@Agufish Dude, from my cold dead hands (though I might consider a loan) would you pry my Sterling AX20 hardtail with locking tuners and Free Way 5B5 barking out more tones than I can wrap my head around. Not that you would go for that because they come with Rockstar Energy Drink graphics but mine is the black graphics... But my point is, on smash or pass, dude, people who love their stuff... love their stuff. That is what gives them value and connection! So Auto Smash... Like the teasing I give you about the Nerd-Gasms you have on Norlin's especially if they have Fishman or Hammet EMGs, you love them, we respect that. Don't understand it but okay. And you really have to find an AX20 to borrow from someone in ... well yer neck o da woods. If they have gone and honed the fret ends perfect, rolled the edges and put in the time to raise it from Sterling to a Music Man... Well, Like the Stingray RS you have... there is no better feel and you know I am right. Now, back to my lame Billy Gibbons worship where I butcher his fine work trying to meet that standard.
Man, I haven't seen an Ibanez Talman in years. I remember back when they first came out. I'm a big fan of Fender offsets, but as for this, I wasn't a fan then, and now I'm still not, haha.
Yeah, but they continually improve and build their new iterations from the ground up, from what I hear. They’re not like Fender that keep them as close to the originals as possible
What is my opinion about Washburn? Honestly, I don't care. I never particularly cared. Sure, 20 years ago, I very much wanted an Idol because that is what the Demon Hunter guys were playing. To me, Washburn has always been the Idol, and nothing else of any significant note. Literally nothing else. Not even the the Nuno Bettencourt Signatures were of any note for me, nor were the Ola Englund stuff. They were just generic superstrats who didn't even try to hide the fact that they were just generic superstrats. In general, superstrats are just bog-standard boring and generic. If I want to play a superstrat, I have my actual FENDER superstrat, (my 2006 Fender Showmaster). At least the Idol was not some straight-up Les Paul copy. It was different enough to actually be interesting.
Even if you have the most expensive guitar in the world, if you don't have a practicing schedule & play chords or scales continuously, then you're gonna sound like shit, regardless of the guitar quality.
