It's likely something that's been on his mind before, at least on occasion. I would guess that he did a great deal of soul-searching before meeting the Zion tribes and Daniel, and he's by no means a stupid man.
Any other game we'd get either "I can't let you do that" or "let him try to kill me, I'll kill him". NV we get the character completely deconstructing the threat as moot and dismisses it without even a thought of malice. Really wish we'd get another AAA title with this range of character dialogue.
I mean...Microsoft own Bethesda and Obsidian, right? They could and would be smart to pass over all future FO games to Obsidian, or at least a sort of sequel to NV. But that would be smart haha, so Bethesda will keep pumping out questionable content.
@Jon Hesson The new Obsidian devs are honestly not too bad, they still have that old dev spirit in there, maybe because the director of Fallout new vegas is actually still with the company. It does not matter how many devs leave, the key is always the directors, lot people seem to forget that, it is not bad for new devs come in and take over but there need to be that teacher to help them along. It why when many projects fail it mostly because the director was an idiot who screwed people over, you can have the best team on the planet, one bad director can ruin it all.
@Jon Hesson yes but they still have Josh Sawyer, who was the main lead of NV, and Tim Cain, who made the original Fallout game. And having new people there doesn't really matter since most of the people who worked on NV didn't even work on Fallout 1 or 2. Like Sawyer.
Joshua Graham is the embodiment of the phrase 'fuck about and find out'. He doesn't need to threaten you because he already knows he's intimidating. The threat comes from who he is, not what he says.
I don’t think the man cares if he himself lives or dies, because Caesar nor a Legion-aligned courier will be able to get any gratification from it without damaging Caesar’s cult of infallibility. It will lead to those within the Legion albeit behind closed tent flaps and hushed whispers to question his leadership. If he can’t kill graham maybe he’s not so through after all or what else is Caesar covering up or lying to us about? Also Joshua Graham is one scary mofo and statistically one of the strongest npc’s in the game, seen videos of him in npc battles killing Lanius by a decent margin.
@@nashooo5903 You could always wait until right to the very end, which is what I'd tend to do... I mean, sure, he technically _gives_ you his unique gun if you complete the questline... personally, however, I'd rather pry it from his cold, burnt fingers..!
@@PeteTheGrouch the first time I played it, I gunned down follows-chalk without realizing he was friendly, inmediately locking me into the bad ending. Worst dlc ever
right when i saw it for the first time i was like oh shit somebody that actually does something other than blanky sitting waiting for the Courier to make them talk
To be fair, if you were at all aware of the Legion (or even allied), Joshua knows it's not a genuine threat. He knows he's being hunted. He knows there's no point in telling on him since he's a taboo subject. And killing him brings no glory at all since Caesar will never admit it happened, and all you'll have to show for it is less supplies and more injuries. It's basically "If you're asking seriously, here's the hard truth. If you're threatening me, you're an idiot since it's a waste of both of our times."
@@chestermicgun Dunno, I guess I just fail to understand why 90% of the fanbase seem to ride this guy's d**k all the time... I mean, from both a technical AND story-telling perspective, Honest Hearts is easily the weakest of the four DLCs; plus, Josh himself never actually seems to _DO_ much... he just skulks in a cave like Smeagols bandaged cousin while fiddling with his 'guns' - yet, despite that, everyone acts like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread... frankly, I just don't get the appeal. **side note** - it probably doesn't help that I'm an agnostic in real life... hence, most of his religious babblings just fall completely flat for me I'm afraid..!
@@chestermicgunBecause after all that happened over the course of a few decades- all the mess, the war, the nukes, the degeneration of the america into a savage, unforgiving and vile wasteland full of marauding dictators and tribal lunatics- and he still believes that something along the lines of a "god" exists. How people excuse his naivety is beyond me or any other sane, rational person really.
You gotta admit, even though Caesar fryed him like an onion ring he is the most intimidating and cool headed person walking the wasteland. Both psychological and physically. I wouldn´t even dare in my dreams to f*** with this man.
I killed him because "why not" in a play through, and he was by far one if the hardest enemies to kill. I was maybe lvl 18 so I wasn't exactly weak either
@@RadicalEdward_115 exactly, you get nothing from killing joshua, that's his point. not the courier or caesar gains anything from it, not even just his gun, because you get that at the end anyway
The fact that he doesn't even blink. Not a hint of anger in his voice. Just "Hm. Interesting idea. I will now politely but firmly explain exactly why this would be an awful idea for you and how this thing you are trying to threaten me with is, instead, a threat for you. I am doing you a favour here." It is so much cooler than a standard "Oh let him try" or "Well, then I'd have to kill you" line.
The sad part is their is no option that im aware of to even try to mention that little tid bit to Ceaser. That said what Joshua said is probably the extent of what would happen, and its just another reason for Ceaser to kill you. Although, it would be absolutely hilarious if you meet Joshua first then go kill Ceaser you get the option to say "Joshua sends his regards". Since you can also tell him you killed Ceaser.
Too bad the challenge calls for a combat knife for historical reenactment. Killing Caesar with "A Light Shining In Darkness" would have been on par with or better than killing Benny with "Maria"
@@curtishammer748 yeah, i don't think it's even possible to get maria from benny without killing him unless you reverse pickpocket him, which is a bit too convoluted
Its not a threat because Joshua understands that ratting to Caesar would be a pointless endeavor, caesar either would refuse to believe you or if he asked you to kill Joshua what then? The world would know the truth either way
You could 'offer' to do the job "on the quiet", so to speak, thus removing a thorn that Caesar has had in his a** for many years - no need for any news of Graham's survival to go public; you'd simply be completing the task his own assassins had thus far failed to do so... Course, about the only thing you'd need to be wary of is if Caesar then decided to 'bump you off', out of fear you might spill the beans, so to speak... hopefully, however, if playing pro-Legion, he would realise you're actually FAR more useful to him alive than dead - failing that, however, there's always Mr. Fatman to fall back on!
He's not wrong. Mention him to Caesar and Caesar immediately says "I heard it's a bad idea to get on the bad side of the mighty Caesar. Change the subject." and that's where any and all conversation about the Burned Man pretty much comes to a total and sudden end with him.
I think one of the coolest things about Joshua is that he, unlike many who claimed they aren't, is actually not afraid to die. He has his faith, which means his soul is saved. He spends every waking moment working to atone for the sins of his past and he simply doesn't have time to be rattled or wavered. He is the embodiment of a saved soul.
I mean, I can't think of anything they could really write here. This is the DLC, not the base game, so they have to build on that and what they have to build on is... Ceasar legit can't admit Joshua isn't dead. Any other response would cause his entire chain of command to crumble. The only other thing I could see them being able to write is what Ceasar would actually say to the player but this line of logic defeats the purpose. If anything, it's more brilliantly written than anything else they COULD have done.
I also thought about it plus he said bringing it up to Caesar would put you both in a difficult position. be sure even bringing him up Caesar just refuses to talk about; and if you keep asking he would probably react like how if you keep waking him up from his sleep.
Think it might have been more of a, “cant”, or more specifically, “couldn’t get ahold of John Doman after the game shipped”. The DLC was running on crazy constraints just as bad as the base game.
Matthew 22:18-21 (KJV) But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
If this was FO:76 you’d need to buy the extra dialogue option for 3,000 credits ($30.00 or something like that) and then it’d bug out and leave Joshua in a T-Pose.
Keith Szarabajka You have probably heard him or seen him in loads without realising. Harbinger in Mass Effect. Diadact in Halo 4, a detective in The Dark Knight...I believe he is quite a prominent side character and goes to interrogate the Joker after Batman leaves him in the precinct.
What a coincidence !! I was just doing this dlc and exhausting the dialog and side content before I continue the last main quest. I love how much side content is written/voiced for just sitting around settlements and camps.
Honestly it didn't even feel like a threat. Feels more like he just gave you his honest opinion, answered your question clearly and directly. Joshua felt truly safe there and wasn't intimidated by you whatsoever.
The definition of a man walking with God. He only speaks the truth, not shaken by anything. The truth is so pure, it fascinates the curious and unwilling threatens wicked minds
Wow, this guy's incredible! I actually need to somehow get my PS3 from the other side of the United States so I can play this game and its DLCs (hopefully)!
I didn't even see it as a threat in my playthrough. In my head it was like bonding with Graham, like it would be a dumb thing to do, but can you imagine embarrassing Caesar like that?
This dialog truly makes Joshua seem untouchable, especially to Caesar. I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason Caesar keeps sending assassins out to find and "try" to kill Graham is actually to just locate him, making sure he isn't getting closer to Caesar's position on some revenge quest. Because I wouldn't doubt it if Caesar worried, even slightly that Joshua could and _would_ do just that.
