The more I watch these, the more I like the bikes from 20’s & 30’s.

I always enjoy the presentation of the history, as much as the motorcycles themselves.

This gentleman is so passionate about his bikes. I'd love to visit one day, from Australia.

Thank god people like this are around to share all this amazing history with us.

To re-unite an original frame and engine is almost a miracle. It sure worked in your dad's favor to have a couple of the hillclimb bikes to give access to the engine mount measurements but the odds on finding the the original engine must have been very slim. That's such great work! Congrats.

So there is no history of this bike and the races it competed in? Incredible story finding the matching motor. WOW! Keep these stories and bikes coming.

Legendary bikes leave legendary stories behind. It's hard to imagine, but this bike will out live me. I'm 53. That's what Wheels Through Time does best. They keep the bikes alive. Stories and all.

This one had just come back from it's trip to Pebble Beach when I made my first visit to WTT. Never disappointed and always more than expected from a visit.

Dale, you guys at Wheels Through Time are so cool. This is a track bike, a Board Tracker? 1928? Way cool. 120 mph+ on those tires? No brakes, what could go wrong? Ha Ha Ha! These racers had some balls, and some real skills to run these motorcycles to top speed. I can't ever recall hearing one run. The machine sounds powerful, 93yo or not! The "no brakes" is the crazy part.

Great story, and I want to compliment the videographer- I get lost in the story and barely even notice how the video seems choreographed, as if rehearsed, but all the close-ups and framing are just spot on, it really adds a huge amount to your channel!

I just absolutely love the old machines and their history. I have always been an old soul (any now have the body to match 😉) I have a shovelhead which is modern compared to this bike but my dream bike is a '61 Pan...my birth year bike. Anyway, thanks for sharing with us. It's on my bucket list to get to the museum.

How the hell did he find that engine.

Wheels through time is the best ..long time subscriber . I have a story from circa 1982 when me and my Harley buddies traveled about 100 miles because we heard about a guy who had a lot of Harley's . The guy was out in the woods and it took a while to find him . Me and my buddies were about 19 or so and this dude was maybe 40 or so . Walked into his shop / hobbled together storage barn and he showed his 2 1920s hill climbers and then there were the flat heads ..the guy loved his flat heads . He showed us the 4 or 5 40 foot trailers he kept his many parts and completes motors but didnt let us look inside them ..what the hell did we know we 19 year old wanna bees ..often wonder what happened to all his stuff ?

A modern version of this might be just what Harley needs to pick up its sales... sounds pretty good

I'm a 2 stroke dirt bike guy but those quad pipes are just as sexy as any 90's MX bike. Sure wish HD would have kept doing the quad cam OHV idea. How cool would a 4 cam knuckle, pan, or shovel be.

Beautiful bike. Former amf machinist, york.laid off by new owners, 300 of us new hires 1983ish. Worked there long enough to get a left over 81 super glide. $500 rebate, 20% employee discount= one cheap hog. Would rather have got that evolution engine anything, but got a hell of a deal on that 81 super glide

From 1962 thru 1963 I owed an OLD HD motorcycle. I was building show bike choppers with HD driveline parts and building the hubs, spokes, frame, electrical systems, controls etc and buying tires and lights aftermarket. I had a 1933 5 window coupe I put a Chrysler engine into and was tracking down a 2-4 barrel carb setup in western Pa. My directions were to go outside Waynesburgh Pa to an Indian motorcycle shop and ask directions. Chuck Dildie ran the Indian shop and assembled one or two new bikes from a huge new parts inventory every year. It took 3 tractor trailer trucks to move the extra inventory to someone in Ca when he ceased daily operation of his dealership. He sent me a mile further down the road to a farm. I bought the 2-4 barrel (WCFB) setup, a South Bend metal lathe, valve regrinding machine and 2 motorcycles. He had a winter dairy milk barn on a steep slope across from his house that had 3/4 of the building with a floor and the rest open to the hillside 12 feet below. For 40 years they had been shoveling bedding hay and cow poo down onto the ground. Parked down there with a horse drawn carriage were every motorcycle his family ever owned which were buried in hay and cow poo. Looked like a big dirt dauber nest as it was mostly poo. We started digging and first bike was a 500cc NSU with rotted tires but in great condition except for paint. Next cam a 6 cylinder Indian the farmer said was an Excelsior? That was not for sale. Then we found an old HD which Chuck Dildie had told us was there. Built in 1925 with the engine like in this video, however it was a road bike with fenders and a headlight. The cam cover looked a little different than on this video (or so I remember). Someone had painted the gas tanks, Maroon on the two cap right side and blue on the left side tank. The rest was drab green, probably the factory paint. The tires were full of cracks but the bike was complete. Including a luggage rack over the back fender. I tried Neidengards HD dealership in Stubenville Ohio for tires and was told they hadn't been produced in thirty years, were unsafe when they were made and aside from being 26" diameter and 3" wide also not made- in any tread pattern and that they were clincher rims and standard tires wouldn't work on those. I built chopper wheels and had 21" Akront rims and a spoke thread roller machine but lowering the bike 2" wasn't appealing and It was such a beautiful bike I didn't want to change anything. In 1973 I sold all my HD stuff to a guy named Tom Young who lived near Pittsburgh Pa. Two of the 74 and 80 cuin flatheads had aluminum heads but most of what I had was shovelhead related for the choppers (new in crate FLH engines were $640 during my time) and some pan head stuff. If you already own my old 1925 model could you put it in a video. If not track down Tom Young who would likely donate it to you. He also got a 736cc Indian (built by Enfield) from me. I kept the Enfield Interceptor as my only bike and still have it. george and aurora, now living in the Philippines.

Very nice bike, cool story. Back when HD innovated. I wish they still had that motivation.

Certainly enjoyed our visit the first time, closed the second time we went back. There was one item that caught my eye. When I was a kid I had a conversion kit that went on the back of a bicycle by replacing the rear wheel. Believe it was powered with a small "continental" engine. I saw one at the Hershey car meet and the only other one is in your museum that I have ever seen ! Would love a close up couple of pictures ?

What a story! The exact motor for the chassis. Out of 25 total. The K model was the next 4 cammer.

Makes you wonder why someone had disassembled the bike. Really that a great piece of history has been restored.

While watching this I thought about it as an actual work of technological artistry. Yet if it came out of a factory today, it would be ridiculed by some if not most. We might figure out free energy before we understand as a species, what majesty is. This was one of my favorite videos today.
