Fun Fact: Chell has the ability to speak throughout the entire game. She just doesn't have anything to say and is too petty to give GLaDOS the satisfaction of responding to her.

I remember, quite recently, I watched this, inspired by the animation, cried because I found out the animator worked on my favourite animated movie of all time (Spiderverse), decided to go and buy Portal 1 & 2, and decided to actually get back into animation again because of the fact that I got so emotional from this… Well, everything about this. And now I’ve finished playing the first Portal game and am getting hype for finishing the second. This video has been the singular catalyst for my sudden burst of inspiration and happiness now. I don’t know if you ever check the comments of your Channel anymore, but I hope you get to read this to see how much your creation has inspired people. I, literally at the time of writing this, am sitting at my desk with an animated project opened up at my computer adjacent to me because of artists like you that reminded me that I can and should make art again! @Daniel von Strangle Don't quote me on this, but they also helped animate a 2D movie. However, you'll have to find out what film that is because I can't remember. Someone in these comments said which film it was, try find that.
Daniel von Strangle they aren’t making anymore portal animations, they said on their tumblr but they have posted 1-2 Wheatley’s on their twitter the past month if I’m not mistaken
i heard that back in development, wheatley was actually gonna die at this part. it kind of explains why you hear an emancipation grill when he gets thrown
I'm happy they saw the true potential of Wheatley, I liked him already at the start of the game and if he would've died this early, I would be angry because it was a waste of character
Don't think you guys understand the sheer impact that NQN had on the Portal fandom. He practically MADE the image of human!Wheatley that we STILL hold onto. For people out of the loop, I'm happy to report he's working at Sony now, doing animation professionally :)
I've been going through the video frame by frame and some of the frames for Wheatley's facial expressions are just absolutely hilarious. This is animation at its finest.
Late to the party, but i like how Glados, presumably one of the first personality cores, looks inhuman here compared to Wheatly, who is a newer modle that just looks like a normal guy here
I can’t get enough of Wheatley and GLaDOS as androids here. I keep watching it! Love how Wheatley’s the more human-looking android, and then the eyes flashing like monitors gives it away.

Well, technically, she just isnt speaking for the sake of making sure the robots don't get the pleasure of hearing her speak. Just, being an asshole to the point of never speaking just for the sake of fucking with someone really makes it all a bit more hilarious.
Wow this is old. I first seen this 10 years ago as a kid super obssesed with Portal 2. Its funny as its still my favorite game. This animation is amazing.
I must say, though, that since you went to all the trouble of waking me up, you must really, really, love to test. I love it too, there's just one small thing we need to take care of first
Wheatley’s facial expressions and his movements are perfect, gives his character such a good sense of who he is. He’s just a dumb and cowardly robot that tries not to be bad at what he does but he will take his chance to abuse power even if his program didn’t compel him too. I like how he hides behind chel. Would love to see evil Wheatley 🙂
11 years ago (as of the date of writing this comment) this guy was doing MLP and Portal animations. Now, he is the Supervising Animator of THE Across the Spiderverse movie. What a guy.
man I hate how weebs do that. I certainly do like your point about how we already have a design to work off. makes a lot of sense actually, if you were put into a robot body you would want it to resemble yourself instead of some kind of stupid wifu bait body.
As someone only now after OVER A DECADE playing the Portal games, yeah this is exactly what I'd expect GLaDOS and Wheatley to look like as humans. They look like their EXACT personalities, and it makes way too much sense. Also as an aside thank you for helping make Spider-Verse that movie is still like one of the best movies I've seen in years and maybe my favorite animated movie of all time? I dunno the specifics but I think it's close.
@@zacharyfrierson6972 Her name is Chell and yes, she's completely silent in both the first and second Portal games. In fact, while Chell was in suspended animation between the end of Portal and the beginning of Portal 2, she suffered serious brain damage due to a prolonged lack of cognitive stimulation, so she might not even be capable of verbal speech anymore.

I've only just now recieved this on my recommended feed but I must say, this is incredible. The animation really does remind me something from "treasure planet" or some old cartoon. Keep up the work, this animation is amazing

Of course, with a VERY small probability, but it can happen, since now this animator works at Sony Pictures, and she worked on "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse". Although it seems to me that if an Portal 2 animated movie is released, it will not even pay off. So because of this, the probability is not VERY, but even EXTREMELY small.
Its amazing that she’s now the lead animator at sony!! When i was younger i always wondered where this person went, cant believe they worked on OK KO, Obituary, TOTTMNT and Into the Spider-verse! Theyre so inspirational, its amazing! I’m glad theyre doing well! I know im like definitly at least 2 decades younger than them but knowing theyre connected to a lot of my childhood shows and movies really makes me feel proud of them, kinda like a mom proud. It almost feels like I’ve grown up with them even though I never met them.
Not a surprise! Look at this absolute gorgeous of an animation. If Valve ever think of making animations for any of their games, i want them to be on it!
The biggest questions: How would Wheatly get carried to his management rail by the bird? How would GLaDOS be stuffed into a potato battery? How could the corrupted cores be put onto WHEaTLY? What would the turrets, ATLAS and P-body look like?
I mean more or less, Wheatley basically IS Stephen Merchant. If I remember correctly, Valve gave Stephen a lot of creative freedom with the script he was given, which turned Wheatley into the character we have today
The fact that they started out making incredible Portal animations and are now the Animation Lead on Across the Spider-Verse is honestly the coolest thing. I think every artist and animator's dream is to go from drawing their blorbos to working on beloved animated films, and they've actually accomplished that. Chelsea GR, thank you for being such an inspiration for folks like me who are studying to go into animation. I wish you all the best, and that you have a long and successful career doing what you love!
I searched for Chelsea Gordon-Ratzlaff, the name she has in her demo reel, and she has apparently moved into work in movies such as SmallFoot, AngryBirds 2, and SPIDERVERSE. FUCK YEAH CHELSEA, IM SO GLAD TO SEE YOU SUCCEEDED. You and your talent sure do deserve it
+urqueer Are you forgetting all the Aperture employees that GLaDOS gassed? Plus the people GLaDOS tested to death. And Chell just did what she had to in order to stay alive. And technically, GLaDOS wasn't even killed. She was still functional after the fact. Really, Chell just performed a...hard shutdown.

I love the very first words GLaDOS says when she wakes up Oh...it's you the way she says the last word is so smooth and dangerously human, compared to how she was before the Morality Core fell off in the first game
