I've been shooting for a long time and never knew how to properly focus my sight. I learn so much from Robski. He doesn't push selling hats much...but buy one in every color. You will be surprised on how many people know about Robski and want to talk about AKs. 👍
Actually never thought about keeping an even eye box shadow to make sure my eye was centered. I always concentated on eliminating the shadow entirely. Your method seems best and I will try it out at the range.
Thanks for the tips as always, Rob. I bought an optic/mount combo for my AK from your website, and I can't be any happier. If I ever get around to buying another AK-type rifle, I will definitely get another optic/mount combo from you.
@@AkOperatorsUnion i know this is an ar15 question, but what optic, primary armss, swamp fox, do you reccommend for an ar15 16inch barrel, to hit accurrately from 10 meters to 600 meters. Meopta optika6, primary arms, or swamp fox.62 grain 5.56 ammo
@@shaolinwarriormark I have been very impressed with Primary arms, you can't go wrong with a LPVO, however for myself I like prisms because they are lighter. Maybe not a huge concern for you with a 16 in AR, but my AK are already a couple pounds heavier than most AR, so that weight is a big consideration.
The gentleman that makes the master mount is awesome he talked me through fitting it to my Polish AK on Easter Day absolutely TOP NOTCH CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!
I'm definitely saving this video to my list; this is some good advice and instruction. I like the informationj on using the diopter ring to help center the crosshairs, as I hadn't even thought of that.
The 2x is a good scope, very light, etched reticle, a little zoom, clear glass. A little expensive but it is great for a 7.62x39 gun or a lightweight AR build, outstanding alternative to a red dot.
6:49, regarding what Rob is talking about with parallax view at extended ranges, this also holds true at ranges of 25 meters. When I was in the army they always seemed to rush the range not caring how well or poor you shot, just as long as you qualified. In the Marines we had all week to shoot with a score book and from 88-93 we used the iron sights on the M16A2. When I went to the army, we started using ACOGs, but nobody ever explained parallax view. Every time I would transition from foxhole to prone my sight picture was way off and I lost a lot of points.
Great to see you again on here are you going to keep up on rumble still AK all the way. Keep your powder dry and your eye on the target. God bless and Semper Fidelis from Arizona.
Very clear instruction and historical knowledge of types of Aks and mounts. Great video and well explained. The ring Shadow guide for your eye is fantastic tip thank you
Unfortunate sign of the times when you have to tell people not to look at the sun lol. Fantastic video as always. By far my favorite channel I'm subscribed to. Also just recently started following you on rumble. Keep up the great work and advice. 🤙🏼
A little bit of grease on the side rail will help installation but more importantly it will retard or prevent the optic mount from getting rusted in place from galvanic corrosion. Two dissimilar metals, steel and aluminum, don't play well together over the long term. In essence, grease on the rail will help you remove the optic.
Hey Rob! I've watched tons of your videos and 5000 round tests and would love to see a video done on the Romanian Draco pistols, the full sized Draco or even the Micro Draco. I think supporters would really enjoy this type of content, keep pumping out videos man on RU-vid and rumble!
Id excercise caution when it comes to tensioning the traditional Warsaw Pact mounts. Many of them can bend under the force described in this video. As long as theres no percivable play, id say its good.
Rob, as always excellent content! I’m taking a Tac Rifle class on 3/11 & can guarantee I’ll be the only non AR on the line. Usually instructors are highly skeptical of my AK (ignorance breeds contempt - lol!), but during the very first part, confirming zero, they can see my AK is absolutely up to the task!!! Thanks for all your help!
Love your channel. I follow you on rumble as well. I’m waiting on the day you make content that can only go on rumble. You need to make a RU-vid video that sends people to your rumble link with the new video. This will train everyone to go to rumble and eventually you can pull out of RU-vid.
you are outstanding. Sad to see YT and other platforms coming down on the pew stuff. I am looking to get back into an Ak and likely (blasphemy) going to grab a PSA 556 to keep ongoing costs down. Outfitting with Midwest Industries new stuff. This video was what I needed. Trying to determine the right optic.
I did not have a good experience with the RS Regulate Mount for my AK (and I don't have a cheap made AK). The adjustment screw goes from not being able to slide the mount on the rifle to finally locking it in by turning it a 1/16 of a turn (if that). The locking mechanism doesn't snap in; it just closes. If you look at the adjustable pressure pad it is extremely small compared to the length of the rail. The RS Regulate Mount/Rail is extremely well made but the locking mechanism "sucks on ice". Add to the fact the you need a second mounting rail to add to the base, the total cost comes to about 200 dollars. It's just not worth the money as there are better options for a lot less. It's an overhyped product with a poor locking mechanism.
BTW, I did lube up the rail and it does slide in more smoothly now as Rob suggested. The lever mechanism locks in place by means of a dent, but in no way do you feel it exerting pressure since it just snaps in.
Interesting recommendation to use scope shadow to reduce parallax. I have always set up for no shadow to be in the middle of the eye relief range. Your logic makes sense.
Honestly, between you and Branden I've started thinking about adding an AK platform to my collection. The only issue is that I have enough trouble feeding the calibers I already own.
Awesome camo job on the kalashnikov Rob. I'm glad you are still posting. You're 25yds red dot zero and engaging extended ranges on this platform were on the Johnny spot!!! I set up in the same manner.
I very rarely comment here even though I've watched and been subbed for a "long time". The insane rise in price of AK clones in the U.S over the last few years (and "shortages" of good 7.62x39 ammunition compared to 5.56x45) is pretty much the only reason I don't currently own one. I love the design, which I affectionately refer to as "Simple Genius", and I thank you so much for this channel. You may still yet convince me to acquire this "toy". Cheers.
I have a couple of those PA 2X scopes. They seem to be a good choice for 7.62x39 guns although I prefer more power on 5.45x39 guns with their longer effective range.
Great stuff Rob . . . also good tip is when you set the diopter is to use a grease pen to make witness marks, especially on ones that move easily! Also, do you have thoughts on Midwest Industries mount for AK? I have one and like it but it seems that it is heavier than RS Regulate. Thanks for what you do!
I got the RS Regulate mount and PA 1X Cyclops from the AK store a few years ago and love the combo, fits perfectly and works perfectly! Rob is THE EXPERT!
Thank You for all the videos output and teachings for all these Years Robski. Aks 4 Life. But i admire all guns. Thompsons 1911 pkm rpk ak47 rpg &m72law i wish the world could just learn to coexist. And just enjoy tools for a hobby, sport, or just admire craftsmanship

Dude I just saw your video on the PSA ak 1000. RD review and you said where you said you got it , rinks in Lockport is where I got my first AK , I don’t know you were in Chicago that cool.
This is great information Rob very practical simple to understand useful information. I'm going to add a mount with a micro red dot very soon. I just want absolute co-witness for quick target acquisition within about 90 meters or so. Great video thanks.
Hi Rob, very informative specially the tip about leaving the optic installed and let it there on rifle for 24 hrs before use, please give tips on cleaning the rifle with optic already installed. Thanks
Great video, I have an old PU scope in an AK style mount (bought it from Kalinka for probably more than I should've paid haha) that has a "universal" clamp on it. I think they were used by the soviets on AK/RPK 74s in Afghanistan. Fits great on my Zastava Zpap. Too bad the Veprs were banned because it would be awesome to put it on something chambered in 7.62x54R, maybe if those PSA SVD clones ever happen...
Great tutorial! I set the diopter on my scope while looking through it (not your recommended technique), but still managed to get it right for my shooting eye.😎 My other eye is significantly weaker, so the reticle is a bit blurred--in fact, I can easily see my front sight and the pattern of the kill flash I installed, with my off eye!
The title of your video grabs attention, however it also grabs the wrong type of attention and will get facebook gun grouops who share it on FB, shut down by facebook monitors. Just say'n. Aside from that, this video is an excellent wealth of knowledge. I never knew that eye relief trick about how to avoid parallax issues. I'm going to be zeroing a LVPO soon on my new PSA AK47 so that along with the other tips about 24 hour curing on blue lock-tight (and the settle-in period on AK's) is all very useful knowledge. I was super lucky in that my cheap PSA GF3 Blem model shot 2.5" 5-shot groups with iron sights, right out of the box with cheap Tula ammo. Zeroing was super fast and easy with the front sight tool.
Came out just in time. Just got a primary arms 1-6 and a midwest mount. Definitely wasn't tight enough, close but I still had movement which explains my shift in zero when I took it out last weekend. I always used my gas rail with my aimpoint until now.
Thank you for the refresher education. You know, I'm surprised no one has came out with a 1913 Picatinny side rail for the AK that mounts via the axis pins like the AK Master Mount. I know it's unnecessary, but a picatinny would still more secure than a standard side rail. I've ripped out my side MI side mount before when I thought it was tight.
