In a straight line it's pretty obvious that a bike like an R6 is faster than an R3, but what about when it comes to technical riding like in the mountains or a track day. After taking the R3 for a few runs around the mountains here in North Georgia I'm starting to think that if you want to get better at riding then getting a bigger bike might not be the best route! In this video we take the 2020 Yamaha R3 to the mountains of north georgia and find out a few things about how it can progress your riding skills that we didn't expect to find out!
Part 1: • Does the R3 have enoug...
R3 Highway test: • Is the R3 fast enough ...

I've had my Yamaha R3 for over a year now. Chase, I don't know if you're pushing that R3 hard enough. When I'm riding through twisties I'm typically in 3rd or 4th gear but I'm at least doing 9000RPM. You gotta push to like 10k RPM to start seeing some real pull out of this baby. Great video though. The R3 definitely teaches you how to go up and down the gears efficiently. Also, filter is awesome

I've been wondering why I felt so slow on my bike I would be switching between 5-7 rpm and feel like bike asking to switch but I also feel there is more room for bike to rev some more just scared to like blow out engine.

An R3 is cheap. Flog it like a rented mule, just let it warm up first and change the oil and filter every 5k miles.@@KiDRiCH305

I'm learning a lot with this beautiful bike, I did 180kph (111mph) about the maximum of speed that it can reach with my current weight (175lbs)

This isn't new or profound in any way. This has been known for awhile. I own a ninja 300 and love it. A big frustration I have is people who ride these bikes don't understand the rev range and constantly complain there's no power all while being at a lower rpm. They rev high. Ride them that way. Ride them correctly and it will blow you mind. This notion of outgrowing a small bike needs to end. You're only catering to your desire for speed/power and not your desire to be a better rider.

I've been on a 650 for my entire riding career. 3 years and 5 days, about 63000 miles. The only outgrowing one can ever do is actually being too large to be on a bike. I'm 6'5" and don't think you can really start reaching that point until you're at least approaching 7 feet tall. We need more 300s and less 600s/100s. All of the fun is under 50hp, people just don't know what they're missing

Thursdayftw 6’4, 37” inseam, Honda Rebel 250, and now Ninja 300. I had to ride the Honda from the back of the passenger seat. Ninja works just fine. Largest I’ll ever go is like a CBR650r, but if Honda brings back the CBR250RR(4cyl), I’ll probably just get that. Kawi’s got a ZX-25r as a global model. There’s a tiny chance, and some rumors of it coming stateside.

Dream bike is a 400cc screamer with 16,000rpm or more, In-line four, around 80hp, under 400lbs, 140mph. 160mm rear tire. Honda is ideal, maybe Yamaha, or just maybe Kawasaki.

Its funny how I didn't appreciate the quality and the over all nature of your reviews and vlogs, and kind of started to take them for granted but realized this as soon as I looked in some other motorcycle related channels, like how good the presentation and the clarity is in your reviews/vlogs. I love you and your channel chase. Please don't change (as a person because you are a damn good one), we all love you for your hard work and mistakes and I appreciate the things that you are doing. Even with a sports touring setup / commuter position hasn't stopped me from ripping it up and having fun. R3 would be something to use if you want a bit more tuck track feel. RC390 is a full on super sports tuck but for beginners with slower engine.

Great vid! I learned to ride in Okinawa on an NSR250 in the early 90's. I was told many times lower cc bikes were the way to start. There was everything from 125's to liter bikes (not that there was anywhere to really open them up) When you ride a 125 it's all about technique. You have to have the right speed going in, be in the right gear and hit the apex and accelerate out because as you said, you don't have the power to make up for it. I've been saying for years they needed to bring the smaller cc bike to the states. Friend had a VFR400, single sidearm and all that was fun as hell. I have an Indian Scout right now but I've been watching your vids and trying to figure out which of these I want to get. I live less than an hour from Sonoma Raceway so a track day wouldn't be to hard to do and about 10 minutes from work. I'm still conflicted lol. Wow, sorry this is so long

Plan on getting mine at end of April. I think it will be all the bike I need to ride curvy country backroads. New rider. I want something light and easy to handle. I don't need or want a crotch rocket. The R3 fits me right and looks great. Cheaper to buy and cheaper insurance, than a big bore bike. Plus more comfy upright riding position. If I wanna play street Rossi, I can add a rear set down the road.
@NatsumeKonno

I have a Ninja 400 as well. But its set up as a sports touring. Not to say you cant do twisty on it. You can fix this by lower the handle bar heigh and getting a new rear set to be higher. Once you do that it will be a beast. Thats why all track bikes with 400 aren't stock. Overall i love my 400.

I've ridden Blood Mountain up the front and down the back many times. My Triumph Sprint RS with the 955i engine was easy because it could pull in any gear. After I bought the R3 in 2015 I found I had to work my fanny off to do the same thing. That 955i engine actually got better gas mileage at 50 mpg. Small bikes make you work, and big bikes don't. You need to find the new R7 and give us the feedback.

here we have the R25 not the R3. I find it under power but easy going very friendly kind of power. You can just take off in 2nd gear and you don't feel a difference. But once you reach at higher RPM you can feel the difference. For me it's a fun bike for street riding and commuting easy to lane split cause you don't need lots of power on the street. I have done some slow speed runs like coming to a spot and not putting your feet down this bike is quite well balanced

Riding a properly focused, yet smaller displacement motorcycle is entirely in keeping with the idea of actually riding the bike, i.e. being a rider. We(or at least I) ride motorcycles for the connection between man and machine. Larger bikes can water that down, especially with all their features. I’ll get some shit for this, but it’s the internet, so I don’t care.

The R3 absolutely can produce a better rider. Larger displacement bikes are great at covering up mistakes because they have more power. Why do you need to place a focus on corner speed when you can just take it slow and then go WOT on corner exit to make up for it?
@joshOfive
@joshOfive 4 года назад
@@SuzukiC41 yes you are correct you can just gas it out of the corners and be good, that's why i said its all about how you PRACTICE, you can practice good cornering on any bike. it's all about the rider, if the rider wants to learn how to be a great rider all they need to do is PRACTICE the size of the bike does not matter, so i disagree with the title that says "you NEED an R3 to go Faster"

Obviously you need to be in the powerband to have the power you require regardless of engine size. Obviously chase is a amateur rider who is only good for making good videos, but bad at anything motorbike.

@@herespresso He cant ride for nuts, based on his comments on how he cant pull out of the corner if he is not in the powerband. I mean isn't obvious he doesn't know how to ride a bike through the corner in the powerband in the right gear? LOL pathetic, he only knows how to ride Big CC bikes without being in the powerband and correct gear. I've been here since he started WBR 1 on the monster. you must be the new one.

False. Many of the more powerful bikes have power everywhere, so gear choice is a moot point. Some bikes pull as hard in 6th(at low revs) as they would in lower gears due to traction limitations. You will, of course, accelerate more quickly in the “powerband,” but only if you use the same amount of throttle in each case. You don’t have to be in the “powerband” to get moving on a liter bike(among many others). Some bikes have no “powerband to speak of(I.e. they have a linear torque curve), so twisting the throttle will pull about the same in that gear, regardless of engine rpm.
@herespresso
@herespresso 4 года назад
As sterling just said, that's not really true. Some big cc bikes do actually pull the same way even on higher gears. Which means you don't really need to shift as much because they have a much wider range. And since a lot of riders who aren't ametuers don't use traction control its always better to be on a lower rev range through a corner because the last thing you want is to back off the throttle even a little bit and the engine breaking on the bike is like "alright then you have chosen death" and send you right through the rear wind shield of that vw in front. Which is the whole point of the video. Of how these bikes are so different and how you can learn so much more than you can on litre bikes. He's not inexperienced in any way because he clearly knows what he's talking about. Inexperienced with lower cc's? Sure. Which is why he's learning about that and applying what he knows and you can see it in the way he rides. But inexperienced in general? Not one bit.
@justintan7370
@justintan7370 4 года назад
@@herespresso What both of you say is right. That i agree. He is inexperienced with lower cc bikes and thus is unable to ride them correctly or at least the way it's suppose to be ridden. He has only ridden on big cc bikes which means he doesnt need to be in the right gear to get sufficient power to pull him through the corners, however that being said, just because you have sufficient power to pull you through the corners, does not mean you should be doing that. Usually if you can handle a small cc bike well, you will do extremely well on a big cc bike, as all the basics is already right but with more power. He way he speaks in the video makes him look like an amateur as he does not know he needs to be in the powerband to actually pull him through the corners.
