In today's video I share with you some of my favourite ways to reduce food waste at home! From zero waste recipes, to worm composting, to making meal plans! These are just a few of the ways I try to minimise food waste whilst also having those fresh foods all throughout the colder months. I also love to meal prep for the month, so I'll be exploring new recipes and creating more sustainable and zero waste food content soon.

This sort of education should be compulsory at schools! Along with visits to landfill, so people can have a better understanding of how out actions impact the environment. Thank you for keeping it realistic and for your nonjudgmental attitude 😊

I hear what you're saying but it's not even an option for people it should be an option in schools I agree but when you force people you just get people that are resentful and it can backfire then so I think it's better to offer the programs and educate people as to why they are correct and important😊

I think everybody will agree… food prices are INSANE!! We need to get the most out of our food… from peels to scraps to every little fibre and crumb. These food waste hacks are super useful as well as good for the planet and the wallet. Thanks, Immy, for all these tips and reminders. Now if you’ll excuse me… I’m off to make some bruised banana muffins🍌. Mmm… muffins!! Ⓜary💕

As a farmer, I don't think food prices are crazy right now. I think as a culture we've undervalued food for a long time now. I love content like this because it shows the true value of food and advocates for good stewardship of our resources. ❤️
@marycharlebois6627
@marycharlebois6627 11 месяцев назад
@@miraearles3372 I agree with you about undervaluing food… I, myself, have taken food for granted especially in my younger years. My partner and I have a massive veggie garden and a green house during the summer, and this really helps to cut down our costs at the grocery store and the farmer’s market. We preserve a lot of the summer’s bounty and we have a root cellar for winter root veggies. I’m not sure where you live, but I live in northern 🇨🇦 where food prices have tripled during the past two years. Yes, Immy’s content really brings awareness to the table, so to speak. Thanks for your great comment. Have an awesome weekend. Ⓜ️ary

Oh thank goodness for my frugal upbringing!! Nope, I never would have said this as a young person, but as an adult… my oh my, do I ever appreciate my parents who would not let us waste food or any other items in the house. Backyard garden, compost bin behind the garage, reusables, tuppers full of left-overs, and every little item was saved, reused, and stretched to the max!! These habits have stayed with me all my life. Isn’t is funny how we adopt the habits of our upbringing, even tho’ we may not have loved them when we were young and knew it all… haha!🤣 Ima loving Vlogus, Immy!! TYSM!! Ⓜary💕

I looooove Vlogust already! Daily Immy content is unmatched hehe. Thanks for these tips and hacks, I have so much room for improvement when it comes to saving food scraps and using them for other things! Although we do have a compost, so most scraps end up being used to grow new food once it‘s all composted. Either way, it‘s great to have a few more ideas! 😊

Another great tip I got from Nigella once it to pour left over wine into an ice-cube tray and freeze it. Then just pop one or two to deglaze your pan. It's so useful to have these on hand when recipes call for red wine, but you don't want to open a bottle.
@scheitahnberg

this is really smart! because if I have an open bottle - I will drink it, but will definitely never have a single glass-worth on hand to cook in the same week.

I take dark leafy greens and place the, directly in the freezer as soon as I realize I’m not using them fast enough. Then I add to soups, smoothies, curries, stirfrys. I freeze the heels of bread in a bag. When I run out of the breadcrumbs I’ve already made, I toast these slices and run them through a food processor and then freeze those breadcrumbs.
@dawnkeckley7502
@dawnkeckley7502 11 месяцев назад
I freeze leftover rice and either use it for another meal or add it to soups, salads, tacos. For extra mashed potatoes, I freeze to top a cottage pie. Vegetable scraps go in a freezer bag for a future vegetable stock.

I can't wait to try the avocado-pit dyeing! I even have a dress already picked out to dye! I freeze my homemade bread to avoid it going stale, scrub my veggies with baking soda to avoid peeling, and love making veggie stock with my scraps! I didn't know people tossed their broccoli stalks until a few months ago and was honestly shocked! I've always just cooked them with the crowns like regular broccoli! Going to have to try the fruit rollups and super greens powder! I'm also planning to get some little herb plants for my window sill and I can't wait!

Store lettuce in a damp tea towel in the fridge - whole will keep longer but washed leaves keep well too. A limp lettuce will come back to life soaked in cool water for a few hours (then let it drip out well).

For people that don't have as much space, you can bake your veggie scraps real low to give a roasted flavor while drying them out. You can then blend them up to make a veggie powder to make stock on demand.

Citrus peel can be dried use an air freshener in the fridge or room; when soaked overnight and adding to smelly pots helps to refresh them, particularly effective when use them with soda crystals.
