Nils: I will be lazy this lap Also Nils: sets the time 70% of simracers cannot achieve while being "not lazy at all"

yeah, wish I could do a 54/55 whilst being lazy and talking to the camera, let alone with 40kg ballast and ~60l of fuel 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

You don't realize how important car position is until you go off-road racing. In circuit racing, it means lost time. In off-road racing, it means a crash.

thanks Nils. that was really helpful. already found a couple of tenths in a single corner in Barcelona just by following your line.

How about a video on where you can make the biggest gains? For instance, one specifically for chicanes? Places like Zolder, Imola and Monza have chicanes that you can easily lose half a second from a bad exit. Either way, thanks!

Tyre management. Something I really struggle with, especially with the Porsche.

You said in this video: "change your line between the corners to be able to step on the throttle earlier". But my problem is that I always late on throttle even in "single" corners. I really don't know how to overcome this pattern. Every time I compare my data with quicker guys, they always give full throttle good 5-10 meters earlier than me and gaining like .2-.3s on the straight alone. If I try that - I run wide or slide/spin. xD Would be nice if you can give tips how to overcome this particular problem. And no matter what you decide, thanks for asking us!

Thanks for the reminder, I was getting lazy with the racing line only paying attention to the apex. knocked a lot of time off my laps.

Turn in. Im quite quick (40.0 at imola) but i have no feel or consistency on turn in, especially t1 and the chicane. Sometimes I can run all the way over the first kerb at t1, others i struggle to hit the "normal" apex and i dont really know why. This happens at most tracks. I feel I have to really hustle the front end in, where quick drivers seem to know how to turn in smoothly and consistently. Brake release feel, i think
@SimracingPopometer
@SimracingPopometer Год назад
the secret sauce is all in the last bit of trail braking. brake too much and it will understeer, brake too little and the rear won't rotate. brake exactly the right amount while exploiting the vulnerability of the rear. the last bit of braking tries to squeeze a little bit of extra grip out of the front to unload the rear and get it to rotate into the corner. have perfect brake feel which means having a perfect connection in your brain between the amount of braking and the desired car behavior, is the key here. hard to just snap that on though. only more laps and corrections from a coach will help to achieve that
@MrTKsDaddy
@MrTKsDaddy Год назад
Thanks for the advice. I feel most of my inconsistency is in the early phase - the point where you transition from hard straight line braking to initiating the turn in - especially from high speed into heavy braking zones. Do I start to turn to shift weight to the outer tyres before starting to release the brakes, or at the same time, or just after. What if the braking phase isn't straight (Imola T1)? I try all of these things but have never really been able to nail what works and when, so I'll have a great corner, try to replicate it next lap and the car reacts differently and I lose time. Of course I'm talking small differences and my laps are always within 3 tenths of each other, but trying to find that last bit of consistency and confidence is what I'm missing, and I think that's where I'll make the next breakthrough in my technique. I think I definitely need some coaching - it's my birthday on Sunday so maybe I'll treat myself ;) Thanks again, you're always so helpful!

Hm I feel like I can see myself doing this a lot! Thanks for another great explanation Nils! I think I'm hessitant cause I feel like the car would go flying making such aggresive changes. I guess this + smooth is tast makes for the best time gain, but it wouldn't feel smooth at all

I just learned why I am slow at nurburing :) Nice video. But regarding the topic, especially in T2 and T4, and also T11, I feel like I am turning more sharply when I go to much to the outside. And usually I get a little bit of understeer (especially T11) if I go that much out. I don't know why, because the radius is just bigger, but for me it feels like I am turning more sharply and that is stopping me from going that far out because I end up messing the apex. I don't know how to explain it, but maybe do you know why I feel like that? I guess the braking points should change slighly, but I feel like I have to brake before I am even in position, which again makes balance of the car bad. Is there a way to fix this? Brake earlier? Brakes slower in the begining? Hope you understand the problem.
@SimracingPopometer
@SimracingPopometer Год назад
typical thing where one really wants to see data and assess the situation. typically too harsh braking can have a multitude of consequences. yet if you stay you turn in sharply, then you probably also simple steer too much after the initial sharp turn in to keep the rear stable. but as i said: guess work without data
