It really has this divorced feel lol. Come to think of it, Lavender Haze had some pretty big warning signs. The sort of wishing to just stay in the 'lavender haze' of being infatuated but in real life he's just kinda laying there and not realizing how unhappy she is.

If it happened to me, I would made me re-think my relationship... So, when I first listened to 'You're losing me' I interpreted it as a last plead to be together. She was trying as hard as she could to mantain the relationship, but when there is inbalance, the one doing all the work will eventually get tired ('even for a fenix', like herself). So, in some sense, we can aggree she 'desumanized' him, but not to treat him like a 'support animal', but to treat him like a 'flawless superior human being'. And, when you do this kind of thing (put people on a higher position, like they are morally superior to you, or have more 'honor' than you, as she wrote in 'Peace'), they start to take you for granted. 'You never know what you have until it's gone', that's what she's said in the song 'You're losing me'. I think that it is why they couldn't work in the long run. Relationships need balance.

She romanticized her life and seems to have expected it to play out like a Disney princess movie. Then when she found the guy who looks like an actual prince in the fairytales she fantasizes about, she thought it was a done deal. The prince automatically knows what princess needs, with no communication nor angst or staring at the ceiling in silence or storms in her eyes. It makes sense that her songs appeal so much to the age group that she is still mentally in.

But then when she was just 16 she became a famous singer. She never got a chance to socially more develop and that might be a reason for her relationships falling apart, because Taylor never had a chance to learn how it really works and all she has is fantasies and fake examples from movies, books and fairytales.

I so agree! I feel like she is stunted emotionally and as a romantic, expected her life to play out like a Disney movie and be a forever princess. Joe literally looks the part as does she, but he wasn't caught up in a fairytale mentality as she was. He must have felt at times he was with a preteen dreaming of running through the forest with her prince coming for her on a white horse. It must have been daunting to try to have a real life with someone so lost in a dreamworld.

I’ve listened to HS album about her and he said in the lyrics that “Why won't you ever say what you want to say?”. I think this is Taylor’s problem. She never directly communicates and instead just drop signs (aka easter eggs) expecting the other person to be a mind reader. Even in “You’re losing me”, she never says she said this to him and instead that she dropped signs. It’s not a recipe for a long-lasting relationship.

I always hear Boy's A Liar on the radio and they always play the version with Ice Spice on it. I never really got the appeal for her deadpan rap style. Pinkpantheress and her didn't mesh at all. It felt like two different songs and the Karma remix makes it even more clear.

I actually thought they were in trouble with Folklore but she said Cardigan, Betty, & August were a fictional trilogy which made sense but I still felt like there was something more personal lurking in those songs. Likewise on most of the other songs on both albums. My Tears Ricochet & Mad Woman were personal, but the 1st song being about Scott Borchetta and the 2nd Scooter Braun. The songs, This is me trying, illicit affairs, & Mirror ball didn't sound completely fictional either and she reuses phrases from those songs in later songs, mirror ball she did say was about her relationship with her fans, which I believe, but I think she may have seen Joe as one of the revelers also. The 3 songs that really had me thinking was The 1, Exile, and Hoax. The 1 if it was nonfictional the only way that would make any sense would be her & Joe's relationship. He would have been the only ex she has had that would be able to meet a girl on the internet and to have been close enough for Taylor to call her chosen family. All of Taylor's other exes were very recognizably famous names and faces before they dated her except Joe. He would be the only one who could meet a girl on the internet and take her home. He might even be able to still pull that off today, but not as easily as he could have nearly 3 years ago when she wrote the song. Exile and Hoax both sound like someone going through some dark times of an ended relationship and they sound very personal. I always believed that Taylor had given song credit to Joe as a way of compensating him for being the inspiration of these songs and as a way to let him have a part in creating the songs that were based on their relationship, instead of just writing them all herself and having him feel his privacy had been exploited, and it also put the media speculation off to there being problems in the relationship. And I believed the same with evermore, they sounded like they were personal songs disguised as fiction, and Joe was again credited on some of them. She also gave him some producer credits on both albums, and enough to ensure he would be included in any grammy wins. There are a lot of evermore songs that I always believed were about her and Joe's troubles. Tolerate it, was one I could not shake even though she explained it away. " You assume I'm fine, but what would you do if I break free and leave us in ruins? Gain the weight of you then lose it, believe me I could do it" and I did, I believed her. Willow sounded so sweet, but there are some troubling lines "The more you say, the less I know, where ever you go I follow" "Every bait and switch was a work of art,Take my hand wreck my plans, that's my man' where's he taking her? She was conjuring up a true love potion while writing the song and conceiving the video. And I haven't even touched on Champagne Problems, or the other troubling Evermore tracks. I kept thinking & hoping that I was just reading into things because at every turn she had a logical explanation, and by the time Midnights came out I concluded that they must be ok and the past 2 albums were just songs, and not indicative of problems in her relationship. I was happy with that thought for a few months anyway. Sorry, I rambled on so much, but just wanted to let you know I think you were spot on about Tolerate it, and got a bit carried away.😅

Without knowing either of them, it did feel to me like he was very uncomfortable in the limelight and the reality is, dating someone like Taylor, you kind of have to just roll with it or be a hermit. I can't imagine what it must be like to be photographed everywhere you go. Have zero privacy, so not judging, just think it was maybe a bit much. Also agree with earlier comments about her worshipping him and seemingly the body language backing that up. Maybe they will be a jlo and Ben, one day, you never know!

I agree that Taylor describes Joe in her music as someone who is struggling with depression. I think their communication styles and their mental health struggles are a bit different to each other in a way that’s hard. I’m someone who would rather talk conflict out. People who I love and are conflict avoidant sometimes can’t deal with me in an argument, and them leaving the argument or shutting down enrages me. But even outside of a conflict, I deal with action and anxieties sometimes feel a bit manic. I carry a great deal of optimism even in difficult experiences. I’ve had a relationship with someone who dealt with stressors by giving up, shutting down, and his depression made him morose, pessimistic. It’s extraordinarily hard to be there for someone like that, and for them to be there for you during your own mental health struggles. Especially straight men, who (in my observation) seem to think that their girlfriend or wife is also supposed to be their best friend and therapist.

@Anna Timm yes, I definitely get the impression his depression and struggles took priority in their relationship, and as she stated, she tried to be the bravest soldier and help him. But in return, her needs were neglected and belittled (my pain is such an imposition) like he couldn't return the same support she had provided him. He minimized her pain and made her feel juvenile or needy for what she required from him. Like her problems were pretty insignificant. Taylor has typically been an optimistic person, even though it's obvious she has struggled significantly with things throughout her life. She has always powered through and made something good out of it. I do think it takes its toll though and she required a partner that could notice that burden she carries and help relieve it. Let's be real, there is pretty much no one who can relate to her, she must feel deeply alone sometimes. I can imagine having a partner who doesn't notice your pain would add to that isolation. Dear Reader fills in a big piece of the puzzle here, she describes what she feels so perfectly in that song. It seems like they reached that point where it was shit or get off the pot, buy a house, get married, have some kids or... split. And I still believe she chose to split. She was waiting for him to bring up the hard conversations and state what he wanted and it doesn't sound like he ever did.

I agree. That's what I feel happened too, but possibly they may have fallen for each other sometime last year, not exactly cheating, but feelings do develop and grow. (Thought snow on a beach might be about that, about her and matty) also feel that matty may be a more expressive person, so it might be a better fit for her or what she is looking for. And I am one of those types too, constantly needy on love and for verbal communication but married to a reserved and non communicative type of guy, but all marriages takes work. 💪🤲

I think she wanted to keep it private in the beginning, because her rep was down, she was hiding from the world in general, didn't know if she would even get her career back, and was thrilled and flattered that this "perfect" man wanted her in spite of all that. Then there was quarantine, when she didn't know if public performances would ever be possible again, so the concept of being creative in a different way outside of the limelight likely appealed to her under those circumstances. But...everything went back to normal, her fame and popularity skyrocketed and she got another chance at huge success and touring again, but that wasn't what Joe had signed up for. She no longer had any reason to hide, because it's not her nature, but it is for him. She sacrificed a lot to stay out of the public eye for him, and he didn't want to acknowledge it was an issue because he was content with the status quo.

It reminds me of how I have felt in my relationship in the past in the sense that my partner has had a big past and sometimes it makes me feel a bit insecure, you wonder if another girl will come into his life, sometimes you question whether you're good enough, but it's just a matter of understanding that things may have happened in the past, but what matters is the present and the fact your partner is now currently choosing her. I think as well due to her getting with Joe as she left Calvin for Tom Hiddleston and then subsequently left Tom for Joe, she probably felt scared he might do that to her this time instead. At least that's my take on it.

Personally, I don’t think Joe wants to be obscure at all. He’s an actor after all. I think he would be perfectly fine with Taylor’s level of fame, as long as it’s his fame. Every time he was asked about Taylor in an interview, he seemed irked. He wanted them to only ask questions about him. Reminded me of how Calvin practically dissed her abilities in an interview when the song she wrote with him was released. I believe Calvin was the sole reason she used a pseudonym. He didn’t want to share the limelight with her.
