He had access to resources you didn’t. This knowledge comes out of a book someone else’s book and the analysis of groups of those works. If you dedicated your life to academics and the study of these things you could do the same things 🤷🏾‍♂️ Peterson is a jungian philosopher not a Peterson philosopher. He didn’t originate these analysis of stories and religious text. When he expresses his own ideas I find them much less compelling

When I found out that logic, STOIC logic, the stuff the Greek's used to practically ground all of mathematics, that modern day computers operate with as their core principle... was taught in colleges as a_humanities_ course, because it was abstract ""philosophy,"" I knew the education system was floundering. You can't _get_ any more STEM-related than stoic logic. Concrete, the literal substance from which the metaphor gets its meaning is chemically defined with Greek atomism, and logical principles that operate on those related axioms. No wonder people don't recognize what the humanities were meant to encompass, any longer. They've lost track of what the philosophical concept of abstraction points to. In his own way, I sense that Dr. Peterson is bringing it back. What does real actually entail, in life? He talks about stuff that's real... and it's stories from religious mythos, of all things.

"The Oedipal mother is the mother who devours her child by overprotecting him or her, so that instead of being strengthened by an encounter with the terrible world, they're weakened by too much protection. And then when they're let out into the world, they cannot live. That's the story of Sleeping Beauty... ...And if you want your child to be unconscious, then you have the added advantage that maybe they won't leave home. And so you can take advantage of them for the rest of your sad life instead of going off to find something to do for yourself. And then of course you can take revenge on them if they do have any impetus towards courage that you sacrificed yourself 30 years ago and want to stamp out as soon as you see it develop in your child." That was both alarming and enlightening.

And we can also compare it to it's original Brother Grimm version To summarize: Sleeping Beauty goes to sleep after she gets some seeds under her nails. Then a king comes by, and he doesn't even attempt to wake her up and just has sex with her. Then she gives birth and the baby starts suck on her finger, which removed the seeds and she wake woundering where this baby come from. And the lesson is much more blunt: you can't shirk off your responsibility by being a woman. So wake up, carry your weight, and pick someone who will stay with you. Just because he's a king does not make you a queen

@thenarrator1921
@thenarrator1921 5 лет назад
Not really. It's not about being entitled, it'd be more accurate to say that the seeds represent ignorance, and while you're blind to reality people will take advantage of you, and waking up too late to reality because of real responsibility later in your life like say a child of your own will end up in terror and confusion.

Let's be honest, he is not a king, just a charlatan pretending to be one (kings don't have sex with sleeping women, that's very irresponsible and kings are masters of self-responsibility). Two immature people got together and the more immature blaming another for being immature, boring story mate... victimhood mentality is shining.
@bt9833
@bt9833 3 года назад
But this is rather misleading for two reasons a) She was asleep... a person who is asleep cannot "pick" someone else and b) Technically if you just meet a sleeping woman and have sex with her without consent...thats rape. So it even accurate to say that she picked him? It was unfortunate event but I dont think it relates to a woman not pulling her weight.

@@theranger8668 he talks about this in other videos. Frozen is not archetypal at all. Its also not art. When an artist creates something they don't really know how its going to turn out but the process takes them there. Propaganda is "art" that has a planned or rigged ending. A fixed message that was determined beforehand. Thats why frozen is propaganda. And it doesn't feel real or true because its not archetypal and it doesn't make sense. Feminism killed marriage, the man and the woman have their roles to play, period. To play thier roles as equals, each covering the others weaknesses. Now the man is to slay the dragon, reap the rewards for a few short years then watch her leave with his armor, sword and horse cuz he was to busy maintaining the castle. Feminism removed the idea that marriage is suffering thru life as a team, feminism created the idea "if you're a woman you shouldn't half to suffer". Now why would any intelligent man go for that?

@soccermommyNPC

Is that the fault of feminism though, or living in a society where both the husband and wife have to work outside the home full time to afford to live, with the oft unspoken understanding that the wife is still responsible for all the housework and child-rearing when her shift ends? Who would sign up for that? I know that I myself am much happier in a relationship with traditional roles, but men don’t value women as women anymore. They’re expected to do everything a man does, everything a woman is supposed to do, and then rarely receive affection and intimacy while their partner is glued to their phone or game systems. It’s sad. Imagine being a woman who is the breadwinner financially, cooks every night, does the dishes, cleans, repairs things around the house, and on top of that, always has to initiate intimacy and is often rejected because their man’s libido is gone or used up by an endless supply of pornography one woman can’t compete with. Attempting to have conversations about these tasks go nowhere and drives resentment through the roof, because most people aren’t interested in working harder when they know their partner will pick up the slack- until it all falls apart. It’s incredibly depressing. This isn’t just a feminism problem.

@@soccermommyNPC you both have really really great points!!!!! In a idealistic world… man and woman reign equality, making up for where one lacks… but I also feel that, in continually covering another’s weaknesses without challenging them for growth, makes one an enabler…and the beings or circumstances on the receiving end of that unchallenged weakness becomes the ones to suffer? My mother has always told me… marriage brings out everything. The complete best of who one is and the complete worst. If a person is not prepared to deal with the worst of who they are, they should not get married. So my perception of marriage was that it’s supposed to help one to grow while also knowing that you will not be rejected for their flaws… So what is this suffering that is implied. That’s a strong word… Sacrifice, I understand, compromise too…. But suffering!!?!?! And what is the source of suffering? Is it from the union itself, external factors???? I also agree with you…. That our current conditions leave both men and women to carry the same work load…. Yet, our individual internal systems still exclaim, that it is indeed the woman’s responsibility, to manage the household… Instead if it being seen as shared the workload then there also needs to be shared household responsibilities because one person can’t to everything. I believe, it is hardwired that most men believe, that because they are the man/ therefore head of household/ therefore should be served and worshiped as such. Even though the woman may carry equal if not more responsibility in the family unit, “ because you are woman and me man, you beneath me, do what I say!!!” I noticed these views are subconscious ( or not) lol But a good leader (as is said) “ leads by example” He should demonstrate his expectations and if he has joined with a quality person , will teach and mimic that example….. You’re both valid in seeing two different societies… I see three. I first see the society that says the younger and more beautiful you are as a woman the less you should have to do in life…….and you are first on the list to be taken care of because you are the most desirable. So women then go on a rampage to get lifts, tucks and fillers so they can look young enough and sexy enough to attract some “High value” ( as everybody calls it) Baller status man………… and Men are out here looking for a piece of arm candy, judge a woman by her looks instead of her character. Determining if she is worth taking care of, by how good she makes him look… To me this is what is described “ traditional roles” She’s pretty, so he’s willing to go broke for her, and she’s at home waiting for him to get there so that she can be available for what he wants……just as long as he gives her money to spend. After she finds a more profitable deal and it’s discovered that SHE is a She-devil with a bad attitude and selfish behaviors, HE is then shocked and appalled, and then deems all women useless users. SHE , continues to be a snotty and manipulative, because she has been conditioned, to believe that others will put with her crap because she is beautiful. Yet these women have learned the art of entitled passive aggressive innocence ( now classified as (femininity ) because they know they can get what they want because of looks. This is not all beautiful people, this is just the general census to me. Then, there is the society that says, “ If you are a hair less beautiful than the most beautiful, you are expected to pull more weight in a relationship” Hence the question “ What do you have to bring to the table?” Is recited to those women. These women understand this and recognize that they have to work. They have to educate themselves, pull their own weight. Although These women may possess a tender and kind heart…they have developed a hard shell of independence and strength, classified as defiance because they demand respect for what they have contributed to society and to their relationships….. NO ONE, takes care of her… The men of these women say, It doesn’t matter how much you’ve contributed, I am still in charge of YOU because I am the MAN. You’re going to pull your weight, pay my way and still submit to me” That is a recipe for disaster. Some of these men, unfortunately… for their known reasons ( a soft heart, ignorance, poor decision making or whatever ) have been victims of the “ Beautiful ones” the “ She- devil” So they get the “ working woman” treat her with distain because of his previous experience …….then complain that women don’t know how to submit, don’t know their place. All while using her resources to attempt to live like the baller. The “ working woman” wasn’t afforded the same luxuries and the “ beautiful one” because of the shallowness of men and SHE has almost a hate for men because she being used for what she has and is still not valued for who she is. My parents marriage did not workout. My sister and I are the oldest. Both of my brothers are in a relationship one is married one engaged.. They have seen examples of the “ working woman” and outwardly has the most forward thinking as far as relationships and women go…… but I still see subconscious chauvinistic behaviors from them. That they are to be revered obeyed and served. I heard my mom tell one brother why is he waiting till “his woman” gets off work for her to go to the store by dinner and come home a cook it. She suggested that he took care of that while she was working to help benefit the family but It didn’t even dawn on him to it …. His subconscious system tells him that it’s her responsibility. On the flip side the women in their lives, no matter how hard they work, how much money they earn, feels that my brothers should take care of them… So what I see, is Societal expectations, our life experience, our subconscious expectations based on our values, often clash and then we reward another with our pain… I feel like until we unlearn unhealthy mindsets…….. enter into relationships with the mindset to give instead of the intent to harbor with selfishness… We’ll just go around and around. We’ve been conditioned……..There is always that RARE unicorn relationship somewhere…….. 🤷🏽‍♀️👀

@@soccermommyNPC Well, yes. Why do you think it got so expensive. With women in the workforce, the opportunity to charge more money came to the forefront. Inflation was also an added factor of the increase in the workforce. The 2nd wave of feminism especially. Women wanted to be like men in all ways regarding the ability to make money, which isn't a bad idea on paper but like I said, inflation and the increase in the cost of living more than doubled, and children have suffered terribly, both under the public school system and psychologically from not having parents around. That's why parents have no respect at all today; because both parents are simply not around. It is one thing for dad to be out providing for the home, but when both are working- there us no home, just a house full of children.

So coincidental about these stories and how tied they were to what I'd experienced last year. A near-death experience followed by my realization about human nature and it's truths that've been covered by this chaotic world. Coupled with my rather interesting, painful, and blinded life of discomfort. Both in being poor and labeled with Aspergers. I strived for one thing and one thing only, to do what I loved in life. The NDE came at a time when I saw no light at the end of the tunnel. I'd psychologically pieced together through my experience in the world why I was so different and realized I had a value in my life in that moment. I came to appreciate all pain in my life in that very moment as they were very valuable lessons. What happened after was like the story of the fool. But it wasn't like I'd wanted it to happen, I met a girl that stuck me down to the core. In losing all chains the world had me by I fell. Through that fall I'd learned about the very shackles that held her down. Imaginatively putting myself into her shoes to see the painful path she herself walked in. Ultimately running because of lies spoken about me by a friend of her's who committed the act of rape in his past. I'd spent years wishing to feel human and 2020 was the most human I'd ever felt in my life. That near-death made me come to terms with all I'd done in life, experienced and learned wasn't forgotten. Jordan Peterson was one of the many people, but a key part of my life, that helped me to realize the truth in his interpretations of his Biblical series.

@KageMinowara
@KageMinowara 3 года назад
I agree with Mr. Peterson about the idea that you need to get married so that you're shackled to one another and cannot leave one another, and so can tell one another the truth. But there is a problem with this. Divorce has been made so easy that even if you get married you can still easily run away. Not only that but with the way Divorce law and the family courts have been shaped over the 20th century, there are financial incentives for women to divorce their husbands, placed on top of the temptation to run away. Its like shackling two people together, but then giving them the keys, and then offering one of the parties enough money to set them up for life if they run away. It completely defeats the purpose of the marriage institution that Mr. Peterson sets out in this video.

Marriage itself isn't the light. The love that can emerge from that type of structure is the light. There's more than one way to make it manifest but yes, we should all be subordinate to it.

I have done a fair amount of thinking on this particular subject of man being hermaphroditic when first created. This is not the traditional way that the Christian church teaches the text that you are referring to. The traditional way leads to the great confusion of the understanding of God and particularly the doctrine of the Trinity. At the beginning of Genesis, God says's, "Let Us create man in Our image, according to our likeness and as the story progresses, we see how God does it and the order in which he does it. It is in understanding the creation of man in God's image that you understand God as Trinity or three in unity or as family. God is of God like stone is of stone or wood is of wood. God is God. God is masculine and feminine; hermaphroditic which is what we see in the text you refer to here. God is the most healthy being in the universe. He knows who he is, how awesome he is. He wants to share himself with others. He wants to create others to share Himself with. He shares himself with himself in his own thoughts but if God created man in his image being hermaphroditic and becoming two, then we can understand that God once was one who became two; male and female. Now God could have had many children however God would come together to reproduce. But there is a problem a boundary, a limitation. And it is hard to believe that there is a limitation with God. But I did not say that it is insurmountable. The scripture says that with God nothing is impossible. If God had simply had children like himself, they all would have been exactly like "them" There would have been no variety and this would have been so boring and predictable. God, in his wholeness, is very creative and generous. And in his desire to share himself and have a relationship with a race of great variety, He invented genetics. He saw it as good that there are great varieties of people with different cultures and talents and viewpoints. (And that is why racism is so evil and arrogant because who is any of us to exclude or defame what God in his love and wisdom desired to share his life and reflect a part of who He is?) So He begat only One Son that would complete His heavenly family and who would and could sacrifice Himself for his brothers and sisters who lived on earth for the love of His Father and Mother. Growing up in the church, the doctrine of the Trinity was just "this mystery we accept but we cannot understand." Yet, it is in understanding the beginning of man that we understand the image of God and then understand the Trinity which is the perfect example of what it means to live as a family. And if you ask me, it is this blind spot that has caused the greatest confusion in the most important area that the church is to be leading in; the building block of society. The traditional Church is Osirus. But very rarely does Osirus want to get up and go with Horus and move forward together with the stability of wisdom and better understanding. New denominations are formed (Horus) very often without the stability of the experience of the elders because of their stubbornness OR Horus in his foolishness does not go back to retrieve Osirus and give him sight. Over and over and over. All of this to say that when we understand the creation of man rightly, we rightly understand the image of God as the example of family. I appreciate, Dr.Peterson, your all-inclusive and academic approach to teaching. I wrote this because you are the first person that I have come across that could see at least in the scriptures you referred to, that man was once a single being that was both male and female. For me this gave me the understanding about God, who He is and that He himself had a history which is explained here in the creation story.

I just saw your comment as I was thinking how amazingly close he comes to Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body. It's quite uncanny really, but his explanation of the creation of mankind, and then their creation as male and female (mankind basically split) and the purpose of marriage being to unite the two into the complete " imago Dei"...it was crazily spot on considering he's atheist. The way I was taught about the Holy Trinity saying"Let us make man in our image" is not so much the hermaphrodite deity who is both male and female. Male and female is the bodily way that the beauty and wholesomeness and creative power of God is shown in His creation. In summary the eternal Father eternally begets the Son (who is not more/less/after the Father) and the two, confronted by the Perfection and Beauty of the other eternally sigh their Love- the Holy Spirit. The Athanasian symbol lays this out, and Fulton Sheen writes beautifully to explain it. Perhaps the reason why we are taught to simply believe it as a mystery first (because there has to be some deep study of it as one grows) is to avoid the many wrong ways of understanding and soon "domesticating" the mysteries of God. It's tempting to bring God "down to my level of understanding" rather than contemplate what He has revealed of Himself and grow in the knowing and loving of God. St Thomas Aquinas , who ranks among the highest in theology and philosophy, was keenly aware that his Summa Theologiae barely scratched the surface of his choice of study. An example is our language - so limited is it that we find ourselves giving God gender because that's how generative/creative power appears in nature. But nature is part of God's creation,not the other way around, so our language for nature is not equipped for the infinity of God - so we do what we can, which many times consists in being clear about what God is not rather than being able to fully express what He is. Growing up in the Church also helped me reconcile cultural worship and religion with the fullness of Revelation in Jesus Christ. There is a seed of truth in all traditional cultures - God provided that so that one would recognize the fulness of Truth when it was brought to them. Not very much of my cultural practice of religion is at odds with the Christian faith, in fact there are numerous parallels with Judaism as expressed in the Old Testament. Once those elements are corrected, I can inculcate the principles of following Christ, and worship of the Holy Trinity into every day life. I enjoyed reading your comments.

I’m currently undertaking a very,VERY close reading of the works William Blake, starting with his paleo-Neitczhian opus *“The Marriage of Heaven and Hell”* ,which is, like, Neitchze clearly influenced so profoundly by (as I now recognise) Zoroastrian cosmology, theology and moral ethics - As such, I cannot help but be fascinated by the seemingly glaring paradox created here by a statement as bold as “You are supposed to subbbordinate yourself to The Light” in terms of the Miltonian conception of Lucifer, the Brightest, Fairest and Proudest of all the Angels in Heaven, (as opposed to Satan, God’s Chief Prosecuter) - and particularly given that Milton’s concept of Lucifer as The Bright and Morning Star is cribbed largely from the post-Judaic Islamic Theology that grew from Nestorian Christianity, naming and characterising The Adversary of God as being *Iblis,Who Would Not Bow,* {Before Adam, production prototype Mark I for God’s Children 2.0)
