I've had an interesting amount of hate from both viewers and a few other dealers accusing me of making this up. Why I would spend my time fabricating such a story, recording, editing, and publishing is beyond me But if you scan RV forums and facebook groups you'll see people reporting awning strut issues & folks telling them they can avoid the problems by doing what we've shown here. Learned this a while back from my techs and didn't realize it wasn't more common knowledge for several years
@@JoshtheRVNerd I can believe that; but you know, it seems no matter what you do some people will find issue with it. I was a tech for several years. You put out some good helpful videos, keep up the good work.
Hey Josh. I'm a fellow rv tech, and never thought of this, however if you compress the strut without it being on the awning and release it, the shock will go from full retract to full extend on its own much faster than I can make it do it while extending it on the awning. This makes sense in colder temps but I'm not so sure this theory hold up .? Side note, I've been told by Jayco that the longitude model in your video here doesn't have an auto dump feature. I'm not hating. Just want to hear your thoughts
Thanks Josh! Just bought our first camper with a power awning last year and never even thought of this. This video just popped up on my feed and even though it's a couple of years old, it probably saved me some moola! I should go through your whole list of videos for other nuggets like this.
I'm a new RVer and consider myself unknowledgeable to some extent but with time spent RVing I'm slowly learning. This bit of info isn't a "eureka" moment but unless someone can disprove it, use it ! Great little advise and that's exactly what I will now put in to practice ! Thanks !
I did hear that info about a year ago and I completely forgot about it. Thank you for reminding me of that again. I have been guilty of putting my awning in too fast but will follow your advice from now on .
Josh: you and your informative video snippets my friend are the reason I purchased the particular travel trailer I did. You always go the extra mile sir!
As usual - Great stuff!! Your advice and effective and professional delivery is the best of the best. No bla bla bla, just the facts, very well delivered. Well done. Keep‘ em coming.
That was a great tip. My last trailer was powered by my back and arms. Now that I have a powered one the tip makes a great deal of sense. Thanks for the video
Thank you. I just replaced my old manual awning with a new power awning. The arm structure looks very similar to your demo. No one told me anything except "here’s the button" and "be careful not to roll it up backwards". Thank you again. I may just have to drive to Coldwater for my second camper.
Josh -. Thank You! My wife and I just bought our first travel trailer, a Jayco 174 BH Baja. We have never heard of that advice. Won't forget it either. Thanks again.
I always love Josh’s videos, and no doubt he adds tons of value to RV owners everywhere, and for this reason our next RV will come from them if we ever replace our pinnacle. But I’m about to either ruin your day or make you smile hugely. Ever since the first video of his I watched, all I hear is Alan from Two and a Half Men. 🤣 I find it endearing to be honest.
Perusing some of your older videos. THIS here is something I did not know, was not taught and I have never heard anyone else, in the RV on-line world, mention. Thanks for the lesson, Josh. 👍
Love your walkthroughs, but love even more your educational videos. Just purchased my first TT here in FL. I will be sure to share with hubby. We were not told this during our walkthrough.
Thanks for the tip, our 2014 Jayco had a bad strut when it was new. We have a 2018 now with a different brand of awning, It goes out normal speed but when closing takes forever, I took it back to have it looked at and they said it was fine. I rarely use it for fear of not getting it closed if a storm or wind comes up fast.
Makes perfect sense, if you think about it. Problem is, who thinks about it while vacationing. Thank you for thinking about it and sharing your thoughts. You rock!
Josh, I have watched hundreds of hours of RV videos. Whether from dealers, manufacturer reps or whomever, and No One has ever mentioned this fact. Crikey, you are such a wealth of RV information and how to and I'm gobsmacked how complete your coverage of RV how to's is. Thank you so much for adding another RV factoid to my grey matter...which I greatly appreciate as I appreciate all of your " Seminars on Wheel's " Your the best, bill in Florida
Thank you so much Josh for the awning info my wife and I just ordered our 2021 mini lite 2511s you are our favorite guy when it come to info nobody else could find to tell ur rv fans keep up the great work love ur tutorials, thank u again
And no one at the dealer where I got mine said one word about this, and always did a demo it full speed opening and closing with no stops. Thanks Josh!
I did not know that. Thanks Josh. By the way we owned our first camper for 10 years before a tree fell on it and totalled it. Now at age 76 we are on our second camper., a little nicer and longer than the first and with a bump out that the first did not have. Much more comfortable and at 24'6" versus 18' for the first it still tows nicely with the half ton pickup, although now we use a load equalizer hitch.
Thank you Josh for teaching us everyday on the items most other dealerships won’t tell or don’t know. Your honesty is contagious (in a good way 🤪). Have a great day!
Wild, I just bought my Rig. I love full time in mine. Anyways, I was just naturally doing this! Wild... Having and making sense if things, either you have it or you don't! Safe travels everyone.😎
Ok Josh I've got to say it Your such a Nerd! But you sure a knowledgeable Nerd! I have learned a lot of information from watching the videos you put out. My wife and I are going to be purchasing another RV soon and it's going to be a big one a Fuzion toy hauler for our Harley's the 419 is the one we like and if our local dealer here in Colorado doesn't have one when we are ready to buy we might just have to jump in the truck and hit the road in your direction.
I really appreciate this video as my wife and I just recently purchased our toy hauler 6mo ago and were never told this. We have gone camping in it about 3 times already and love it. Nothing would ruin that feeling more than a breakdown of some sort. Admittedly the initial walk around at time of purchase seemed very quick and it may have been mentioned however let’s face it, it was our first RV purchase and we were still basking in the glow of initial RV ownership. Lol 😆
Excellent tip. Thanks! Keep up the high quality information. I think your videos even influence RV dealers, as they see what customer service is all about.
Glad I clicked this on. Would have never known. Fortunately, my RV is new so I've only opened the awning a few times. I'll remember this for the future.
Those are gas charged struts. Take a new one and see how fast it extends. Your awning is literally being pushed by the strut, it's not pulling the strut out.
@@JoshtheRVNerd I have to agree. I'm not currently in the market for an RV but I find myself watching Josh's videos all the time, just cause its good honest, practical information.
We bought our Jayco popup in the early 90's from Haylett. Several years later, we traded it in for a 24' TT at Haylett. Never had an issue with the RV's or the dealer! We've not gone from a Pop-up, to a travel trailer, to a Class C, and now we own a class A which we'll be selling this summer and buying a 5th wheel. The C and A were not from this dealer as we moved from Michigan to Ohio unfortunately, but retiring next Spring. Maybe we'll head up to Coldwater and take a look around! We most likely bought our trailers from your dad Josh.
I like that ours I can manually lower either one of the sides to let water run off so we don’t get the random noises of water dumping off or water dumping in our main walkway.
It's crazy I bought a 2018 freedom Express in August or July of 2018 and it already had two owners before me. But it is my baby now 😂 I thank them for bringing the price down!
