@@MAGH1O1 Definitely a "life saver" ! I did not learn any of this from the video presentation because he delivered it at breakneck speed and his ONLY concern seemed to be to say the words and ask people to subscribe. I won't make the same mistake again!!!
If you really start to research this there's lots who say multis are a $ grab and do not do anything for the taker. I started taking mine all separate a few years back
decrease doesn't mean there's zero absorption. so it's going to be less effective than if you took the stuff in it at 20 different times, but gives you the trade off of absorbing somewhat less effectively for convenience. most people aren't relying on a multivitamin to be their sole source for these things anyway, and they usually do things to make absorption more effective. for instance multivitamins will usually (from what I've noticed) have lower amounts of calcium (like 100mg instead of 300-500mg in a calcium supplement) and magnesium than you'd get in a specific supplement for those, to reduce the amount it's competing for absorption with other minerals so absorption isn't reduced as much
And my reply is gone. I'll make a new and leave out trigger words! Lol theres lots who say if you can take the all seperate. Multivitamins are useless. I even found a schedule of when to take what and it was a priority they do not clash. I wish yt let ppl leave pics in comments lol
But iron absorption requires b12 & C together. This is one of those “thinking too hard” cases. Food literally has these combos all over the place. If true… how are humans even surviving?
-------------------------------------------------------- @drlegrand ****** Aren't all the studies referenced based on synthetic vitamins? I would be interested if all this "incompatible" or competition for absorption, etc is BECAUSE the supplements are synthetic thus lack in the necessary enzymes and co-factors, etc. to ENHANCE the absorption, just as the brilliance of nature intended. Our CREATOR knew all these scientific findings way before man figured it out, and HE added certain helping factors so we would get the nutrition from our foods - which is why GMO is such a farce along with the overuse of other chemicals in growing crops - that being insecticides and herbicides...it's actually quite miraculous that we live even 50 years with reasonable health. @vikramkaushik2251, @kshiteeshsn263, @reggie5, @chelseacraft4669 Exactly. It's likely BECAUSE the supplements are synthetic (or imitations) of the real vitamins and lack the necessary co-factors and enzymes for the proper breakdown and absorption. This point is not being acknowledged that synthetic "vitamins" (chemicals) are somewhat beneficial to a point - beyond which they build up in the body and become problematic - even to the point of toxicity.
No-one should be taking calcium supplements! They're usually low quality made using calcium carbonate aka chalk!! Elderly care homes are full of people taking calcium and they mostly have osteoporosis!
At age 57, I went keto/carnivore and in 6 months I was back to ideal weight, strong and athletic again with ZERO meds. I run circles around the grandkids! I take a big fat multivitamin/mineral daily along with several other supps. I’ve been doing this for MY ENTIRE ADULT LIFE with NO apparent problems. While I do research potential supplement interaction(s) prior to incorporating them into my daily regimen, as well as watching max doses, at 61 now, I just ain’t worried.
Question...don't you miss fibers, in your diet? I do like meats and protein (eggs) a lot too, but I definitely also need my fibers in the form of vegetables and rye, for instance.
@@REmcoo36 I thought I would miss fiber but it turns out they’ve been lying about that too. For 3 years now I’ve eaten little to no fiber. Nowadays I don’t necessarily have a BM daily like I used to but it’s not a problem, in fact I have virtually no gastrointestinal pressure, gas, acid indigestion, etc. You only “need” fiber to push through all the bulky carbs; no bulk, no fiber needed. I am continually amazed at how simply it works. Hope you find this helpful.
@@REmcoo36You simply need a good natural probiotic. I’m keto, not straight carnivore, but I don’t eat a ton of vegetables. I incorporated sauerkraut which has been fermented for natural pre and probiotics. I literally restored my gut microbiome incorporatingthis in my diet daily. I do eat the kind that has to be refrigerated. Anything compleshelf stable will not have live probiotics.
@@REmcoo36, in addition to a multitude of daily supplements I take two heaping tablespoons of psyllium fiber every afternoon mixed with flavored BAI water and Smartwater shaken and then downed within about 30 seconds (or it gets too thick). I NEVER have constipation!😁
@REmcoo36 I've been carnivore for over 3 months and when I first started I was a little backed up. Did some research and found Dr Anthony Chaffe on here and found out I wasn't taking enough fats. So when I upped my fat intake the problem went away. Also when I had more fats my energy went up as well.
What about Omega-3 fish oil with berberine? I had a quadruple bypass when I was 43 I am now almost 54 and I stopped taking all of my prescriptions over 3 years ago. Haven't seen a cardiologist since and I will soon be attempting a 800 mile thru-hike. I'd love to see a doctor again however I have little trust in the medical professionals who think statins are something people should be on.
Read the Calcium Paradox. Good book. I would also suggest reading Good Calories, Bad Calories. Also look up the Korean Cholesterol Mortality Study published in 2019. Over 12 million subjects.
You should look for a functional Dr in your area. They look for the cause of symptoms!! They do not treat the symptoms. They cure people. They are more expensive and not covered by most insurance but they will find and treat your problem.
They put me on ACE inhibitors and it took only 4 pills to cause me months of coughing my guts up. At the same time the doctor put me on statins and within days I was in the hospital with rhabdomyolysis. I had an aortobifemoral bypass in 2021 and they put me on gabapentin 300 mg 3 times a day. It was horrible. My scalp was numb, fingertips, skin all over, restless legs, and when laying in bed I would start to cough up gobs of phlegm and so thick it took a lot of coughing to move it. I finally was able to speak to a pain management doctor and he let me have a much lower dose, 100 mg 3 times a day or as needed. I usually take two or three. My real problem with it is that I have now been on it for 34 months and there is no sign that right leg is ever going to come back from the operation. The left leg did great, but the right leg is nearly unusable. I just don't trust doctors that much anymore, I try to stay open minded but I will never again be an inpatient in the VA hospital no matter what the consequences because I would rather die than get treated like that again.
The more videos I watch the more confused and frustrated I become. I'm not sure what supplements to take at this point. I know that I'm not getting everything I need from food. And now I'm even more limited because of blood sugar issues. I appreciate your wonderful lessons and the research that you've done. I couldn't do it. I have this little phone screen and brother it's hard to read the tiny print! I'm 66 and looking for answers. God bless you Sir.❤
Calcium just leave it in the store anyway because it just coats the inside of your arteries! So Calcium that should just come from cold uncooked foods! Deep frying/ High heat broiling makes it metabolize all wrong~ To clog your inside of the arteries also!~ We have the teeth of a fruit and plant eater! So it is about your "gut health"" also! LIKE, Beans {lectin }~> are no good for that~! Peanuts & Cashews are in the bean family so in reality they have lectin in them also~! I am going to eat little on carbs, & eat more like a rabbit, I think Citrus fruits are way to acidic inside the body!~ limes alone are at a low 2. For pH.. Battery acid is 0 to 1 pH. Three to four pH goes for the rest! Grape fruit is lower also~

You can take zinc-copper together if they are at the right dosage and are balanced. That is why some supplement manufacturers make zinc-copper combination supplements.
Exactly. What I commonly see is Zinc, Copper, and Selenium combinations. Contrary to what was stated in the video, I heard you need the proper Copper component when you take Zinc or else it will turn your hair grey.
Everything is so complicated. I have become a proponent of vitamins, but, how did we ever survive as a species if our nutrient intake is so complicated?
YES HUMAN ARE VERY COMPLEX. I RESEARCH ABOUT NUTRITION FOR OVER 40 YEARS AND I WAS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR THE MOST COMPLETE AND NUTRITIOUS FOODS AND SUPPLEMENTS. I THINK THAT NATURE (MAYBE GOD) HAS NEVER GIVES A FOOD WITH ALL THE NUTRIENTS FOR VARIOUS REASONS.
Because of the advent of highly processed foods. This has only been a real issue in the past few decades. If we stop eating processed foods then nutrient intake is not longer a required mental exercise.
Calcium Citrate is Best form of Calcium. Most others do Not Absorb well in body.Saw a video Years ago where a Woman was being X rayed to see if she had breast cancer & Her X ray showed White Pills all over her over the Screen,Dr.Told her those were Cheap Calcium Pills that Never Absorbed in her Body for Last Several Days.😮😢
You are wise to be cautious - because most calcium supplements are made from inorganic matter and as it assimilates into human bone it causes bone cancer. .. (Not even to mention the chemical impurities in most vitamins.... Very difficult even to find anything without that poisonous MAGNESIUM STEARATE.) However, avoiding all CA supplementation can aggravate problems as well... One would have to do time consuming research to find quality, health enhancing products ...and budget accordingly for them.
I just wanted to say thank you! Since watching your videos I've managed to stop taking my medication and still remain functional using only supplements. Furthermore I have no anxiety. The only problem is having to scarf down 20 pills twice a day. I notice an immediate difference if I don't take them, though!
There is a lot of good information here. One thing that hit home with me was not to take zinc and copper together. I have always had excellent copper levels in the past but recently it was below the normal range. I looked at all my vitamins and realized that I was taking zinc at the same time (and was also taking about 400% of the RDA of it). I cut back on zinc and started taking it at a different time and copper was normal when checked again.
A pharmacist I know stated that zinc and copper can be taken together and sells the combination. If you take zinc without supplementing with copper, she added you can develop an aneurism.
I tried looking this up, the only sources I saw saying to take them together were from supplement companies. There's no harm in taking them together, but they do interfere with each other's absorption. So, if you're going to bother taking them they're best to take at different times to maximize the absorption.
Well according to this guy most food won’t work so how did our ancestors ever make it? 😂 Medical studies are mostly BS sorry to say. They have personal agendas & monetary motivations that cause skewing to come up with results that fit their agendas. You can find studies that contradict all this. So who do you believe? Personally, I listen to Mother Nature. She’s so much smarter than a whole boatload of humans. 😊
@@SamShank175 so milk, salmon, spinach… many other foods have both calcium & magnesium together. I’ll trust Mother Nature. Now watch this get deleted too… because he can’t handle any push back. 😂
Calcium is not needed as a supplement for most people as we get enough via food. IF you have to take calcium supplements though, make sure you take it with vitamin K2 in order to direct the calcium from the soft tissue to the bones, where it belongs. Too much calcium without vitamin k2 can cause problems in the long run.
This is interesting. Which foods give you the DAILY requirement of calcium, which is 1500 mg? To get that from dairy you need the equivalent of 4 gallons of milk. And, two thirds of adults are lactose intolerant. So how do you absorb calcium from dairy when your intestines are inflamed.
For those in need of calcium supplement, it is important to take vitamin d and k in order to direct the calcium to the bones. If not, the calcium is absorbed in the soft tissue which increase the risk of hardened deposits in arteries.
MOST COMPANIES DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING BUT PROFITS BY MARKETING WHAT IS EASIER FOR THE CONSUMER CONVENIENCE THINKING THIS ONE SIMPLE PILL HAS EVERYTHING NEEDED AND EASIER TO TAKE.
Companies don’t care about you and your health. They just want money and sell whatever they think people will want to buy. These companies do ZERO research on nutrition! Its all about $$$$$!
Regarding: “Decrease/compete for absorption” isnt the same as “not absorbed”. Many of the doses in vitamins are high enough that you’re still getting enough and it’s better than not taking because you can’t live your life based on timing supplements.
Thank you. Vague language like ‘may’ or ‘can’ and ‘reduce’ or ‘increase’ or ‘risk’ or ‘probably’ is meaningless. How much by? If it reduces it by 2%, I couldn’t care less. 20%, still probably not worth knowing. We’re taking these vitamins daily, food wouldn’t cover all these everyday anyway so even if only 30% is absorbed, it’s all good specially with the increased doses to compensate. P.s. I ‘can’ delete anyone’s comment on youtube and I ‘may’ know your address. There ‘could’ be a ‘potential’ risk that someone comes to visit you which has been shown in studies to ‘potentially’ cause harm. ;)
I like that you got right down to the information in this video, I didn’t have to listen to some junk where you spread 5 seconds of actual info into 5 minutes. You just packed this baby with good stuff. A refreshing change from what is usually on RU-vid. I like it. Thank you.
At 1:15 that's preposterous, I've been taking daily magnesium, calcium, Zinc, and D3 vitamins for years now and I'm in full shape, never tired always alert with strong bones and powerful muscles.
Sigh. I'm taking so many supplements and it's so complicated without this added stress. I think I might just roll over and die instead. Much easier. I'm so tired.
Mainly, the enzyme in your intestine that transmits the vitamin or mineral through the intestines to the blood stream. Only so much of the enzyme is available so what is not absorbed is wasted.
Better to go for real supplements. Cod liver oil, retinal A and vitamin D. Dried liver in capsules for many things, including iron. Iron frying pans for iron. Natto capsules for K-2. A Brazil nut a day for selenium. Beef has everything, even trace amounts of vitamin C. Grains block the absorbtion of vitamin C along with other vitamins.
Metals (Zn, Mg, Cu, Ca, Fe) compete with each other due to metal transporters during digestion. Also, the "competition", or decreased uptake, is minimal (10-20%). So, worrying about these issues is likely unnecessary. Exceptions would be with the blood thinners and other pharmaceuticals/medicines.
Thank you so much for getting to the point imediately, UNLIKE most who say they are going to tell me some particular item, and then 45 min later, they still don't tell you
I would be interested to read the papers and studies that you refer to in this video. I notice that they are not referenced in the video itself nor in the description. Would you mind backing up your statements with the studies and papers you are referencing so that we can read them for ourselves.
Solution: chelated minerals amino-acid chelation bypasses the competitive interactions that can occur between different minerals when they are absorbed as salts. Use of chelated minerals avoids this problem since they are transported by different mechanisms. Iron: bisglycinate, ferrochel. Zinc: bisglycinate, L-OptiZinc, picolinate, orotate. Magnesium: bisglycinate, taurate, malate, L-threonate, orotate. copper: glycinate, bisglycinate
So why is the best selling mineral supplement a combo of calcium magnesium and zinc? I take it now you are saying I have wasted my money and am doing less than nothing to get these minerals?
I have a schedule for my supplements and separate them exactly as you have stated because at the end of the day supplements are are expensive and no one wants to waste money and time taking supplements to they are benefiting from because if absorption issues and competing supplements. Once you get a schedule if separating them it’s really not hard at all. It would be helpful for people if you did a video on timing of supplements evening vs mori g and also empty stomach vs food. Thanks for the info.
I guess it depends on quite a few factors . I ‘ d be pretty sure that if you take cit c and copper together both would be assimilated. Especially if you take as oligo-elements. And vit c you can take as liposomal
This makes me wonder if the absorption is based off of ph levels. Because this is how it is for plants. Different nutrients have different absorption rates that is based off of ph levels.
It's possible because 'diminished efficacy' doesn't necessarily imply 'harmful'. As adults, we're free to make poor decisions if we wish. So, knowing what not to consume at the same time allows us to see some products as undesirable, and then to 'vote with our money' by not buying those products. The ways of the world aren't always going to make sense, so it falls upon us to make sense and then to choose accordingly.
@@RichardHarlos Thanks a lot.. I just bought multivitamins and multiminerals. I can't return it even if it is not opened... So, in future I won't buy it.
@@InquisitiveMind23It's not that multi's are 'bad' for you. It's that they're less effective than their advertising would like us to think. I also have a multi-vitamin that I take daily. It isn't perfect, but it does provide plenty of vitamins and minerals that do not compete with each other. That's the benefit that I derive from a multi. If there are things that I want or need to supplement beyond the multi, I can pick an choose what makes sense to me and take them at a different time. No need to throw out the baby with the bath water :)
I think I can do this by taking my vitamins and minerals when I get up in the middle of the night every two hours to P. This will make it easier to remember. I just hope I can go back to sleep. Spreading it out throughout the day and night will make this possible. My chart is complex.
Hi, thanks for a useful video, just one detail is that when you mention vit K you surely mean vit K1 which helps blood clotting,. Does vit K2 also interfere with vit E? , I would guess not as it has very different roles in the human body to do with removing calcium from the tissues and depositing it in the bones.
😮 OMG! We should follow these guidelines to avoid Vitamins from Cancelling Out each other ... Separate those Vitamins that do Cancelled each other out to two groups, one Compatible Group to be taken in the Morning , while the Opposite Group in the Evening! Or just eat more Natural Vegetables , Fruits , Olive Oil , Nuts & Beneficial Spices as they tend to be more in Balance & in Moderation in their Vitamins & Minerals content! 🙏 Thank You So Much Dr LeGrande for the illumination! 🌷🌿🍎🍊🌏✌💜🕊
Just because two vitamins may interfere with each other doesn't meant you really need to take those separately, you just might get less of a result, but long term you will get them absorbed in sufficient amounts eventually. If someone is severely deficient in one vitamin then you take this vitamin and nothing else or at most maybe vitamins that will aid its absorption.
Get your vitamins from real food not packets. Food delivers the vitamins to the body in the exact amount needed. No worries then about competing supplements cancelling the other out.
I think they know and don't care. since people see more vitamins in one tablet they think it's better. you pay less, you get more, plus you don't have to drink 10 different pills . so as long as there are new people on earth at some point of their life they going to think it's better and buy such unless they will educate themselves further when they have time and desire and right info would come across for them to actually figure it all out
I think you were wrong on calcium and magnesium together. In fact I take calcium supplement from Costco and their Kirkland signature calcium citrate is combined with zinc, vitamin D, and magnesium and I also take vitamin K2 to help with maximum absorption of calcium.
I REMEMBER watching a Docrors video he made in his car waening people not to take calcum tablets as they actually detsteoy the bones not help them and he was going to make a part 2 the following week but was found dead, he said not such thing as calcium tablets one has to get it thru food!
Magnesium and zinc will compete for carriers in large doses. At standard doses they increase each others absorption. I take 20mg micronized iron and tauromag/threonate mag
Seems odd that a lot of highly nutritious foods indeed do have combinations of vitamins and minerals that "compete". How then ,can people get what they need by eating a healthy diet. Seems like a paradox.
I’m very anemic. Not one doctor or nurse have told me not to take Iron and calcium. My doctor put me on both! But not one word about not taking them together. I’ve started not taking calcium on the nights I take the iron.
Ok Calcium Magnesium. Yes when taken in the crude formats the studies your reading indicate they will do this. They usually use carbonates for some reason in these studies which is perhaps the least absorbable, and its actually important to mention if its magnesium citrate, carbonate, glycinate, sulphate, oxide, etc. because it makes a huge difference. Calcium actually requires magnesium to be absorbed in any meaningful way, if your taking plain calcium carbonate your going to get calcium deposits and upset stomach PH. I wont make a wall of text here but look up the original Cal/Mag Formula By Adell Davis and Mr Hubbard, it is Calcium Carbonate, Magnesium Gluconate in an specific ratio mixed with a mild acid and hot water, the mild acid allows it to go into a solution and it quite noticeably absorbs very quickly.
Synthetics. Synthetics. SYNTHETICS! Amazingly, Nature packages multiple Nutrients together within single plants, fruit, nuts, & seeds; Moringa, Spirulina, Alfalfa, etc. … without dubious complexities. One must Stoke one’s own digestive fires to allay dependency solely upon Synthetic Supplementation.
Deficiencies aside, theres a threshold for nutrients that compete for asborption and its a limited window of time (neither consistent from nutrient to nutrient or person to person) About 7 years ago i saw the threshold for cal/mag at around 700mg combined receptor load. If people are really concerned they can look up some of that stuff and Im sure finer details on it have changed, but 700mg in one moment with cal/mag is a lot amd you likely have little to no concern other than a diminished therapeutic effect. Other nutrients may have smaller thresholds.
Make calcium from crushed egg shells. And read the calcium paradox. It explains why excess calcium problems and, sometimes, thyroid problems go away after supplementing calcium safely.
Vitamine C as a supplement is often not the whole vitamine, just askorbic acid chemically produced. The best is to eat lemons, oranges, tomatoes and potatoes instead.
I has low iron - was taking my supplement with green tea and drank a ton of green tea. Finally read a small article about this issue stopped green tea and my iron shot up like a rocket. I felt like a human again! 😊
This should be in mind that you DO NOT NEED EVERY VITAMIN AND MINERAL DAILY. Often times people should be mindful that you should only take a supplement if you are deficient in that specific vitamins and minerals. See your doctor’s to do blood test and other test first to tell you what you are deficient in. Also eat properly and drink PLENTY OF WATER.
Not related but I heard someone said that supplements shouldn’t be taken on an empty stomach because they need stomach acid to digest them properly. Truth in that?
Copper and zinc levels are best improved by getting it in food because in food these come together along with iron. By taking any of these separately as insupplements affects the other so best get it in food .
This is going to make it very difficult to eat since food contains several vitamins and minerals and if I’m eating meat with a few different vegetables then there’s going to be a few competing vitamins and minerals.
at 1:34 Minute you are suggesting calcium and magnesium interfere as well as the support each other's absorption. Two sentences one after other - conflicting
My suggestion based on this video (If my notes are correct): In the morning: K, Calcium, C, (maybe Ginko) In the noon: Copper, Iron, (no green Tee) In the afternoon: Mg, B12, (maybe Fishoil) In the evening: E, Zink, Sleepingtime. at least 2-4 hours between every stack.
High levels of Zinc can deplete the copper in your body, so it isn't uncommon to supplement them together. Both the AREDS 1 and 2 supplements have both copper and zinc in them, and both formulations were tested for years for efficacy and safety in double blind placebo controlled trials.
Good information! There are tricks to some of these combinations; however his point about being first tested for deficiencies is critical. On face, his lecture here might be frustrating, but there is a ton of supporting literature to substantiate everything he is saying here.
about these conflicting supplements: 4 hours break is enough? let's say I took: vitamin C, then 4 hours passed, then I took b12. is it OK? or what is the accepted time?
