We did it to ourselves. This was to be the beginning of a new trilogy but since people hated it, the franchise got rebooted TWICE. Now it's a masterpiece compared to the newer ones. If we had only known.

Looking back, this movie was actually a refreshing take on the Terminator franchise. Also love the little suggested detail that if John never met "Uncle Bob" in T2, he probably would have had them kill Markus on the spot. He knows Terminators can be good. He's seen it with his own eyes.

all t800s are capable of learning beyond their core knowledge base. "Uncle Bob" just happened to be captured and REPROGRAMMED to not kill but protect John. And just so happens, John and Sarah removed the skynet safeguards keeping him from learning on his own. Terminators can be good but only if altered by humans as in the very special case of "uncle Bob". T3, how convenient it was for him to override the alterations made by TX and resisted on killing John. How stupid it was to finally kill John then the dork fate terminator developing a conscience and forming a family. Some of t3 was alright, much of it sucked. Genisys and dork fate were abominations. Salvation at least carried the tone and story better than 3,g and df did.

Salvation is actually a sequel to Rise of the Machines. If you read the book version of RotM, it describes the nuclear war shown at the end of the movie as limited, so limited US armed forces still exist after the nuclear exchange. This is how the resistance is flying A-10s around, and how they still have so much equipment. The many universe theory of time invalidates the entire premise of the Terminator franchise, any Terminator sent back in time will just fork off yet another time line branch, and affect nothing in the history of the time line the terminator leaves from.

i disagree l think the story and ideas were the engaging factor of this film and the colour grading let it down... ln Hindsight it does look visually distinct from the other films in the franchise and the monochromatic colour scheme fits this sequence well, but The washed out tones of the rest of the films make the it look too similar from scene to scene. I personally did enjoy Salvation, the only one where the film took place during the war and Christian Bale did a good job as John Connor. I think the biggest issue most poeple had with it was that there was too much focus on Marcus compared to John. Granted it was still an amazing film.

The shot of the open silos, rusting away and being overtaken with vegetation, is really eerie.

Amazing film. I remember watching a clip of the director talking about this scene. He used the light source to shining on John's face with shadows on his eyes and lower cheek bone an image resembling a skull to signify his lack of empathy/ humility though he's supposed to be the "hero". While in the shot, the light illuminating on Marcus's face signifies the opposite, his yearning for redemption.

I just love the fact that he didn't know who John Connor was and didn't care

You know I was expecting this movie in 2009 and liked it a lot. I think it was the first movie were I saw Christian Bale... I still love Salvation. My Terminator timeline is T1, T2, T3 and TS.

Marcus is awesome, I love the idea of a terminator/human hybrid.
