The $100,000 MPL Indian Chess Tour is a series of four 16-player all-play-all tournaments where the winners, and the top 4 by Tour standings, qualify for an 8-player knockout final. The winner of each event also gets a place on the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour.

Eric Rosen had an online game not so long ago in which he CHECKMATED his opponent with O-O-O. There's a video as well. Sorry, I can't remember the title.

For those who are thinking it's an illegal castle, well, it is not. The king doesn't cross the square that the black rook is controlling. So it's a valid, legal castling.

Well up to 1974 you could theoretically castle with promoted rook on e-file if other rules were intact. Shame it never happened in serious game ;p

Yes, OK. But I probably wouldn't think of castling in that position because I'd subconsciously assume it was illegal. And castling in order to attack with your king is bizarre!

What we really need is super-slow-motion of the rook moving over the king as it goes from a1 to d1. And a close-up of the look on Aravindh's face as he realizes the plight of his gone-next-turn rook.

This move featured in a famous, controversial puzzle, in which it's difficult to spot because, unlike watching the entire game from the start, it is not known whether white retains castling rights.

I remember one such puzzle, and there was a hint that said, "You are free to assume." Eventually I figured out that it meant I'm free to assume that castling is legal. It was very satisfying to solve.

Cool, I'm glad I've found the solution to this one "pause the video moment" quite easily. For a long time I had this common misconception about castling that al the squares from the rook to the king had to be free from attack for the castle to be legal. Now it feels good to know quite instantly that the castle was legal in this game and think about it naturally. Great video, very instructive for the ones who are still new to chess and wish to progress !

You can castle if your rook is attacked. The former World Championship challenger Victor Korchnoi once asked the arbiter this, during a game. Not sure if he just wanted confirmation (before touching his king and potentially being forced to do something terrible, if castling was illegal) or genuinely didn’t know.

I listened and read some interviews with GMs (in the past, not for this game) and everyone had a different explanation for "next move blindness". It's quite rare these days, but as this game shows, it still happens.

One of the few pause the video moments I actually got right lol. Seemed obvious as well. Once I noticed the king wouldn't pass through check via castling it was simple.
