I almost wish I got a 1080ti instead of the 3060ti I have. 3gb more GRAM, and basically same FPS in most games (yes it is slightly lower, but not by much usually). And price would have been half to buy a used 1080ti over the 3060ti new. All the 3060ti has is ray tracing, but turning those on just kills FPS so I don't (as well as most people) use it. I have a 5800x because I built 2 years ago before 5800x3d came out. Not really worth upgrading now.
Nope, it was already surpassed in performance and value within the first year. This didn't happen to the 1080ti, and the gpu market took a nosedive around the RTX-launch
I'm doing exactly the same thing right now, going from 5600x to 5800X3D but I game at 1440p, the differences won't be as big but I am doing it for better 1% lows and less frame jumping plus it does play very well with Flight Simulator 2020 and also for a bit of future proofing. I was going to upgrade to AM5 but I think I will wait for the 2nd generation now.
Bit of 1440p benchmark feedback comparing RTX 3080 with 5600x and then with 5800X3D. Ultra settings, DLSS if available is quality. Far Cry 6: 5600x - 81fp. 5800X3D - 98fps Horizon Zero Dawn: 5600x - 129fps (47fps low). 5800X3D - 134fps (62fps low) Cyberpunk 2077: 5600x - 64.62fps (39.86fps low). 5800X3D - 66.71fps (51.19 low)
@@PHDarren by any chance have you tried Battlefield 2042 ? I currently have a 5600x and I'm wondering if I should upgrade to the 5800X3D or just go "all out" and move to AM5. But that would mean new mobo, new RAM, and obviously new CPU... GPU is a RX 6800 XT and I game @ 1440p as well. Thanks in advance.
I’m debating on just keeping the 5600x in the system and holding off until as long as I can for a gaming build for my gf. Don’t think she will use it as much tbh so I don’t want to upgrade to 5800x3d. But for gpu, should I opt for 7000 series gpu maybe 7800xt or 7700xt ? Or just go last gen ? Current gpu is 5700xt
I upgraded from the Ryzen 5 3600 to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and it's made a heck of a difference in everything. I do though only run the RTX 3070 and have been looking to upgrade the GPU. Given the benchmarks you were showing, I seriously look at getting the Radeon 7900XT as it looks like a powerhouse of a GPU. I'm not really interested in ray tracing and with the price that Nvidia GPUs are going for these days, they just don't seem like all that great value any more.
@@dustinhilltenor It looks like for the time being I'll be sticking with my 3070 as my 3440x1440p Ultra-Wide monitor died this morning. Couldn't get it to turn on so I'm reduced to using a spare monitor my housemate has loaned me which is a 24" 1080p Dell screen from over a decade ago. Works perfectly fine and seems to have a great screen, but my goodness it seems so small. lol. It's also only 60HZ where my ultrawide was 100HZ so I guess my 3070 is more than enough to handle it. At least for now.
Haha I just did exactly the same, didn't even upgrade my old B450 motherboard. It's like night and day difference in jumps in games, my RTX 3080 can finally do its job the right way.
My RTX 2070 super greatly benefitted from an upgrade from 3600 to the 5800x3d. Squad low settings, diss balanced now shows twice the fps at 1440p. Baldurs gate 3 also shows twice the fps.
I've been wondering if the upgrade was worth it. I haven't got to fully utilize my 3900x for other applications. I've been pretty much strictly gaming. 5800x3d seems like a beast and a worthy upgrade since I'm only gaming now with my pc
I think it's a worthy upgrade even for an older Intel CPU user such as myself. I just bought a used AM4 motherboard and used 5800x3D and am waiting for it in the mail right now. I've been long over due for a CPU upgrade due to CPU bottlenecking in VR games, heavily modded Minecraft, Baldur's Gate 3, and soon to be Starfield.
i upgraded from a 3770K to a R5 3600 3 years ago, but now i got myself a 6900XT, and i'm upgrading to a 5800x3d. Not that bottlenecks bug me, i hard cap everything @118FPS, cuz i got 120Hz screens.
I used to have a 9700k with my 3080 and in some games the bottleneck was real, one of the games that made that very clear was Cyberpunk, I upgraded to the 5800X3D and the difference is noticeable even in the games I did not notice there was a bottleneck, the little stutters you see from time to time I attributed to the game were actually mostly fixed with the 3D chip.
same here except with the 3600 XD, got a 5800x3d and slapped into my b450m steel legend after flashing and its so god damn smooth lol. Good chip indeed
Great video thanks! I did recently upgrade from an R5 2600X , and the 5800X3d CPU was on my shopping list. I ended up going with an R7 5700X and I'm very please with it. The deciding factor was cost, I with an Amazon discount code I managed to get the 5700X for £124. £150 less than the 5800X3d at the time. The 5700X is performing admirably at ultra wide 1440p especially on sim games like Train Sim 3 which is surprisingly demanding. Another nice feature of the 5700x is lower power consumption, 65W, and heat. With a single fan ID cooler it manages to stay around 55c under heavy load. Id love the Fractal AIO to go in my case, (same as yours) but they are quite pricey at the moment.
Yeah... 20% performance for 100% more price doesn't seem worth it. I haven't pulled the trigger on the 5800x3d for this very reason. The cost is still 550AUD and my 5600x was 230AUD. I'm hoping the 5800x3d will drop in price in a few days when the 7800x3d comes out
I recently built a new PC with the 5800x3D at its heart. Got some good offers on end of line stock. Coming from a fx8350 the difference is certainly noticeable, though to be honest the fx chip is still capable enough for most tasks, despite having been in my system since 2013, always clocked at 4.6 ghz, with a Corsair H80i that still keeps it cool.
Damn bro I feel you 😂 I had a fx 6300 and a Rx 560 for the longest time before I started getting into pc’s almost a few years ago, I don’t have the x3d but going from the fx 6300 to a r 4500 was crazy lol, those fx’s held they’re own ! I got a 5800x right now but I’m not sure if I want a 5800x3d or just wait a bit longer to hop on the am5 platform, I do like my higher frames on those big titles but it’s not a need right now as the combo with the 7900xt does me pretty solid so far for what I play so idk. It does look good though !
something that has to be said is that even in scenarious without a cpu bottleneck there is a noticable increase in 1% lows, which makes any game feel more smooth. I have made exactly this upgrade and it is amazing. I even got my PBO curve to -30 and it's perfectly stable (afaik most should get at least -20)
@@vellocx I have the same tune. Most people look at this like any other CPU, it's not, that 3D vcache is a whole other animal. People are like why not go to AM5. The 5800x3d with perform a little under the 7800x3d and it should but 20 is not an upgrade in my opinion. And I only say that in this scenario is because I already get MORE than enough fps, what, go from 150 to 175! Don't need it. People say well I got a 3700x or 3900x, don't get me wrong great CPU's, but the ccx's are split, sharing the cache between the 2. It makes a difference in gaming, not to mention the 3d vcache, the same amount as the 7800x 3d. If you know, you know. I gotta stop getting on here. Most these people don't know, and ya can't tell them nothing lol. Game on. Drew from BeanieBro's.
I'm impressed with my 5800X3D especially with older single threaded games. The extra cache reduces memory swaps to main system ram. It really smooths out game studdering when clocks speeds alone couldn't achieve. Just upgraded my friend's rig from a 5700x to 5800X3D today. AM4 still rocks!
@@KandJx Interesting question and thanks for asking. Besides getting 2 more cores and 4 threads you receive 100 Megs of cache. The extra cache does make a huge difference in certain scenarios and many CPU dependent games. Older singe thread games will also get a nice boost. I think it's worth it if you got the chance. The chip surprises me with smooth frame rates in many different titles. Good luck and happy gaming! Peace!
I upgraded to a 5800x3D when the prices fell last month, but then my 5600x, X570 board and RAM went to a data analyst who needed a working build fast for her work. So actually I should have gone to 7600x with B650 & Expo RAM as it would have been just 50€ more and uplifted the whole platform. I only had weeks before doing 2 rebuilds as I took my used parts in a rucksack building it into a new case. I really like x3D tech, but the uplift is insanely big sometimes, but it's a little slower than the 6c at common light threaded tasks. A cool running CPU the large L3 reduces power consumption to/from memory and the stepping improved. It's like having a torquey V8 vs a 4cyl turbo.
I have an R7-5800X3D coupled with an RX 6800 XT. That CPU is just IN-SANE! Since I didn't have to upgrade my motherboard, I decided to double my RAM instead to 32GB! I owe you an apology, I wanted to subscribe to you back when you were given problems by one of the big companies because they didn't want you to be honest. I saw Steve Burke talking about you and I wanted to subscribe but I unfortunately forgot. I'm glad that I was able to rectify that and you have a new subscriber in me! Cheers!
Thanks for the comment but not sure I am the person you are talking about. Companies don’t talk to us at all and doubt we have been mentioned by anyone before, or at least not that we know of 😂
What a difference in performance from 5600X to 5800X3D (besides Horizon Zero Dawn)! I'm glad I chose to go with that chip for my gaming computer! Currently using the RX 6600 XT GPU!
The performance difference you see here is because the 5600x is weak for the 7900xt but in your situation with a 6600xt you would've been absolutely fine with the 5600x cause it can handle a 6600xt well without bottlenecking and if there even was a performance difference it would be very negligible.
@Mohammed Makes sense. Even without taking the V-Cache into account, the 5800X3D has a couple more cores than the 5600X. I am considering going for a higher-end GPU in the future. With my 750-watt power supply, I should be able to upgrade to something like a 7800 XT in the future.
@@Mr.GameCrazy don't have the urge to upgrade your gpu. you should be fine now with the 6600 xt your 5800x3d will use 100% of it in most scenarios if not all.
@Mohammed Thanks for the advice. I'm happy with the gaming computer I built 3 months ago with those 2 parts. I think whenever I do upgrade the GPU, I'll upgrade the RAM as well. Some games are starting to require 32 GB of RAM these days. Currently have 2 8GB sticks of RAM.
first i bought the 1080ti in 2018...now a couple of years later the 5800x3d. two legendary components meeting, but the graphics card ultimatley got replaced with a 4070 Ti Super this week and this setup at 1440p now feels very smooth.
I'm using the 5800 x3d with a 3090, I run 3x 32" 1440p monitors in a span. Was a nice upgrade from my 10900 I had before it for the types of games I enjoy (space games, flight sims, etc. Things that are generally not as optimized as typical games). Felt like a good place to wait for the ddr 5 stuff to get settled. Likely upgrade again when the 5000 series nvidia cards release
Interresting. This is the system I built. 5800X3D went on sale a few months ago here for $100 off and I grabbed it up and swapped out with my old 5800X. 2 weeks ago the reference 7900XT came down $100 and I grabbed that. Was curious about the 7900XT CPU scaling. Thanks for this.
@@xythiera7255 My reply from yesterday is missing for some reason. Anyway... to sumarize. Go watch AMD Ryzen 7 7700X Review by hardware unboxed and see where the 5800X is compared to a 5800X3D. For me the upgrade was fast and cheap requiring little to no effort. Barely over $100 to sell the old one and buy the new one on sale and plop it in. In my games I immediately got 15% - 25% boost in fps without having to rebuild. At the same time the 7000 series platform (7700X+B650) would have required multiple hours of work and put me out of pocket at least $500 at the time and barely faster than the 5800X3D after I was done. Now, with a 5800X3D, I can wait a year or two and see what the refresh of the 7000 series looks like or perhaps a sale on the 7800X3D package. All for under $150. 5800X is no where near the gaming performance of a 5800X3D in alot of titles.
@@xythiera7255 Tell me that you're mad you bought a 5800x instead of the 5800x3d, without telling me you are mad you bought the 5800x instead of the 5800x3d. There are people who have upgraded from 5900x to 5800x3d and are happy they did.
@@michaeltrivette1728 I am one of those who changed from 5900x to 5800x3d. I've noticed a smoother experience, FPS doesn't drop as low. Also helps with temps as I moved to an ITX case.
How has your experience been with the RX 7900XT? Stable drivers? Any game issues? I think it is a viable GPU option now with AIB models like the Sapphire Pulse at $799 USD. I do not like the 4070ti's low VRAM and 192 bus. 4080 makes no sense price wise.
I've upgraded from a i7-8700K to 5800X3D and it's a massive difference! I stream Call of Duty Warzone on Twitch, from 80 average FPS on i7, i have now around 180 average FPS with the 5800x3d. Same graphics card; 6700XT XFX.
So you got a 7900XT to play games at 1080p? I,m sorry but those tests were useless since there's no way you'll game at those resolutions. Should have done tests at 2K and 4K
I have a 7900xt paired with a 5600. Pushes the GPU really well and with being paired to a LG C1 OLED, its been a great match. Only game I have been CPU limited in has been Cyberpunk but still kept the GPU around 85%-100% fed. Debating in the 5800x3d once it goes on clearance.
@@ronalcasid3844 i decided to wait until the next round of CPUs. I’ll do a full AM5 upgrade then as pricing should continue to fall. I’m very happy with my 5600 thus far.
I guess the takeaway is that if youre just below 144 fps with the 5600x, you could potentially take full advantage of a 144hz+ refresh rate by replacing it the 5800x3d? Otherwise, isnt it a bit silly to game at 1080p with a 7900xt- trying to best 287 fps in stead of moving to 1440p?
First I had the 5600X, then the 5800X and now my system has the 5800X3D & RTX 4090 and there's absolutely nothing! a dream finally came true to play any game at 4k/120 FPS!
So you noticed a difference between the 5800x and 5800x3d? I primarily play one game "BlackDesert" and it's very cpu bound, you can do some tricks to have the gpu carry the load but I am hesitant on swapping over.
Do you really buy a 7900xt to run games at 1080p? I thought about upgrading to a 5800x3d but playing Hogwarts Legacy on my 3070 at 1440p with DLSS turned on my 5600x barely reaches more than 30% utilisation whilst the gpu is running flat out. If I upgrade my gpu I'd just increase my graphics to 4k with higher textures etc. so my gpu would still be the bottleneck.
@@sxsoutcast7651 I realise that, and I know that's how you bench test a cpu, but it's not really a real world scenario. Not unless you play FPS's at 800fps that is!
We did the 1080p, 1440p and 4K tests in our last video about the 7900XT. t was in that video we identified the bottle neck in our CPU so this was to purely see the difference with the new one. 1080p to push everything we could to the CPU is all.
@@TechLabUK Sorry, I've been abroad on holidays so I missed that video but I'm caught up now. It more or less confirms what I said earlier that even a 5600x is plenty fast enough for a 7900xt if you're mainly playing in 4k. Thanks for the content and keep up the good work.
I currently have a 3900XT with a 2080ti. I don't really want to upgrade my entire board frome 4 to AM5. Does this make sense to upgrade my 3900xt to 5800x3d?
Using a 6700XT and my 5800X3D just yawns at it. The GPU is going max chat and the FPS just blaze. This is undervolted, curve optimiser and power limits reduced, performance has actually increased, the sound and thermals are completely inconsequential. I’m so happy.
Just got a 5700X3D from Aliexpress for £142 delivered, ridiculous VFM, my 6700XT is just pinned at ~100% utilisation the whole time. Great upgrade from the 3600.
Higher resolutions won't make much difference which is why we game test CPUs at lower resolutions to show the performance difference. This is changing though as more and more games / enthusiast level GPUs are seeing bigger swings at those higher resolutions so it won't be long before we can really start showing them up there.
I'd like to see CPU tests at 4k ultra on an RTX 4090, That way people will have an idea of the 4k bottle Neck on high end GPU's a lot of people buy the best CPUs to pair with an amazing GPU waste of money. I've been their. 🙈
I have this exact set up. Just in a razar mini ITX. Bump up the resolution my friend. I play on my Neo G9 and am just amazed every time I a launch a game
We were just testing in 1080p to put the load onto the CPU for CPU testing. We tested the GPU performance in a previous video. Awesome that you got it running in a Mini ITX.
Please stop using the term "Bottleneck" to describe a limiting factor of a computer system. A "Bottleneck" is when there is a severe imbalance of components in a system, such as an i3 10100 paired with a 4090, where one component is completely out of step with the rest of the components to the extent that it degrades the system as a whole. Chris (GoodOldGamer) is not a techie, he's a marketdroid/salescritter.
I've considered going from a 3950x to a 5800x3d. I only play games on this computer now. Seems like for the price it might actually be worth it to get a little more life out of this.
Its not worth it you shoud just go with a 7600X or 7700X there is no real reason to go from a 3950x to a 5800x3D the differents isnt big enoth to justify spending more on AM4 specialy with prices for ddr5 comeing down by alot .
I've been running a rx5800x3d now for almost 1 year. I guess I'm gonna have to upgrade my GPU to a 7900XT now. The FPS I got with a 1080ti was great and also with an ARC A770 16gb so maybe I have to splurge a little more.
@@TechLabUK I have the latest drivers installed and this is a very good card and I think it would probably work better with an Intel CPU. I don't know how many people play Croateams games but I have been averaging between 150 to almost 400 FPS depending on various settings. I have been using there benchmarks and It's pretty good since it was there first GPU in many years. I don't see why they don't sell to well unless they have Nvidia on the brain. This card beats the 3060 12gb card and I think the ti version too. Maybe when they get there drivers all sorted out we get some awsome surprises from this card. There is going to be an Intel build in the near future for me and that is where this card will end up. I have a 10700k lying around so that will be my test subject. It would be real interesting to see what EVGA could do with one of these GPU's I figure that would put Intel in a different position than where they are now! My question is if the combination of my gtx 1660ti and 5800x3d would lead to too much bottleneck and if that will cause any problems(but again I mainly play csgo on low graphic settings)? thanks in advance
May have a slight bottleneck on the GPU but the 5800X3D will allow you a lot of room for future upgrades on the GPU. It won't cause issues as it will just allow the GPU to run at it's full potential but you are obviously leaving some room on the table in terms of CPU i.e. paying for performance you wont be using. Not for a while anyway.
I do wish you would have done a 1440p of this too. Because even at 1440p on some games I’m seeing people say that even the 5800x3d is bottlenecking. Great video tho amd thanks. I have 7900xt and using 5600. Just not sure if I want to upgrade to AM5 soon or just get 5800x3d

Hi, Is a psu of 650W enough for that system? Or do I need to upgrade the psu as well? I started upgrading my system, and I already have the 7900xt. I'm currently looking for a good deal on the 5800x3d.
650w meets the average PC requirements for the 7900XT so I believe it would work. I wouldn't go as far as overclocking it though unless you get a new PSU.
if you play an MMO, the 3d chips are a must. the 1% lows see a MASSIVE increase. my 5800x3d and 7900xtx get ~110-120fps on average out in the world in new world on 4k max settings
I have not had an XTX tbh but looking at benchmarks it is the better card. The 7900XT was enough for us so depends on what you want to play. I would buy either for my scenario.

I already own a 1080ti and used it with my 5600x for a while. Now I've moved back up to the 6700xt with a 5800x. The 5800x/3d gets way better ram speeds (3800mhz vs 3400mhz) than the 5600x. At least in my experience. Maybe I hit the silicon lottery tho.
I recently paired my 5800x3d with a RX 7800 XT and I'm very surprised it runs better and cooler than my RX 6900 XT. Works great with my 165 hz Corsair 4K monitor. I think a more apples to apples comparison would've been 16 thread to 16 thread would've been more appropriate.
Why are you showing average FPS in the multigame chart, those don't matter at at all, better to show the 1% lows instead of those useless numbers. Congrats on the upgrade, it is the best CPU for that platform, that's what I would have done if I had AM4. The 5600x is fine to run the 7900xt for 4k gaming. Who is playing at 1080p with a 7900xt? In the real world you are most likely playing at 4k, there is no reason really to have a 7900xt for 1080p gaming. Its is a waste of the 7900xt to play at 1080p. a 10minute ad with additional ads! #greatjob
Is this CPU optimal for Command and Conquer 3, Kane's Wrath (on the 4k addon)? The main problem i have currently is the game works on a single core and when in game we reach high unit counts the game slows to a crawl and when we select the units and give them an order the cpu usage goes to 99% spike and the game crash. I was wondering if the CPU upgrade (or the vcache thing of this 5800x3d) would help with this problem. I want to push the game limits further and play at hogher units counts without limitations. Very fast single core due to the 3D V-Cache and tbh the fastest you will get on your platform anyway. AMD are releasing new chips soon though which should be cheaper that also have 3D V-Cache so might be worth waiting for one of them if you don't need all these cores.
I had a 3070 + 5600 and decided to change the CPU first, my ACC VR performance wasn´t going anywhere, now the GPU became the problem, so I went for a 4070, let´s see what is gonna happen.
5800x3D would need to no more than $170 to be worthwhile for some people afraid of upgrading their board. Thanks to all those that insist on upgrading their am4 systems I have had no issues getting all my rigs into AM5. Motherboards are the hardest part to sell. 5000 series cpus and ram sell quick.
currently have a 3900xt on a Aorus Elite X570 MB, 32gb 3600 memory. Going to purchase a 7900xt. Would it make sense to go to the 5800x3d or stay with the 3900xt. Looking to game at 1440P ultrawide.
@@middletownchurchofchrist4671 it's all personal preference and it depends what monitor you have now. The 3900XT and 7900XT I believe will pair well when at 1440p or 4K so as long as you are happy with that performance (I suspect 4K 60 at least in every game out now) then a new monitor could give you a huge graphical / quality upgrade the CPU won't.
I have the same cpu as you. Just upgraded my 1660 super to 7900xt. Still really good! But Im going to sell my 3900x for a 5800x3d. Maybe also an Idea for you?
@@middletownchurchofchrist4671 I upgraded from a 3700x to the X3D and it does offer some improvements BUT I would not do it if it meant I couldn't have my OLED UW Monitor. I wouldn't trade any upgrade for the OLED.
Hello I recently been upgrading my whole pc and encountered bottlenecking I think this is new since I recently upgraded from a 2070super to a rx7900gre, pairing the 7900gre with a ryzen 7 3600x just ordered this cpu do you think I will run my games without the small stutter and will be able to enjoy my new rigg?
Return that thing before you open it. Sell your old am4 hardware and take that cash and the cash you would spend on this old good cpu and get into AM5 already. Unless you dread swapping out boards. You don’t need to reload windows, just pre download new drivers. Uninstall old drivers, shut down , swap boards and then install new drivers and 99% of the time you are up and running. I’ve been doing board swaps a ton these last 4 years on AM4. The last 3 am4 in the house is getting low cost am5 upgrades over the next few weeks. A little hassle but might as well sell old AM4 hardware if you can find a buyer.
i was on a old system mounting a core i7 4970s and a gtx 1060 6gb, so after 10 yesr decided to upgrade and did with the 5800x3d coupled with a rx 6950xt and 32 gb ram ,(new screens too) it churns every thing you pun on with no problem
I recently upgraded from a 3800x to the 5800x3D and the difference in the one application i care about, MSFS, has been impressive. I was considering upgrading my 2070 Super as well, but performance in the sim at 1440 and high settings works good enough for me at this point in time.
@@Bk_owns Umm... Of course a $1,600 card is faster than a $500 card... But here I am with a 3060ti, 5800x, 32gb ram and I play every single game I want on max / epic settings on my 27" 1080x60 monitor. Locked at 60fps, never go below. You don't always need the newest and best. It's just a waste of money most of the time.
Undervolt, almost always a must. The chip is harder to cool because of the extra height on the 3d vcache. It's relatively easy and doesn't require going into your bios.
I play in 1440p ultrawide with a 6700xt. Most of my games are single player non-competitive graphics heavy and the sweet spot is around 90-100 FPS, so i'm 90% of my time GPU bottlenecked or don't care going over 100FPS for minimum improvement in gameplay. Going from a 5600X to a 5800x3d was gaining me ~5 FPS max. Not worth it in my case since both CPUs are still separated by at least $120,00. It's more future proof, sure, and i'm happy with it, but the upgrade is not all that massive for now, if you play games at my resolution and type.

So , for 5700xt it's not worth it. I might go 5700x route cause is much cheaper. Your thougts?
Almost a year later & it looks like even the lowest tier AM5 7000 series desktop CPU (Ryzen 5 7600) beats the 5800X3D by about 10%. If you want to rock an AM4 motherboard build though, it's probably your best bet.
Man, please take this as constructive criticism, audio quality is more important than video quality. Your video looks great but the audio is very lacklustre, other than that great video!
i just bought my 7900xtx sapphire nitro and my cpu is the 3600x . Do i go for the 5800x3d ? i have found the 5950x at the same price as the 5800x3d which one do i go for ?
