Crazy right? I only replaced the vacuum lines, idle air control, temp sensor, throttle position sensor, intake manifold gaskets, intake plenum gasket, distributor, plugs/wires, throttle body gasket, MAF sensor, battery cables, and probably other things I can’t even remember trying to figure this stupid misfire out. And it’s a little ground. 😂
That's awesome.....I mean, it sucks when it's the little simple stuff we overlook, and spend a small boatload of $ before we find it, but awesome that you found the issue.
Thanks! Agreed, this truck was pretty much a full on "second chance" project to make sure this thing didn't end up in a junkyard, so I don't mind throwing a bunch of parts at it. At least I know all that stuff is new now. I am just glad to fix the issue regardless!
@TheMoparGarage Right, that's what my '01 extended cab is. Replaced fenders, grill, bed, rear bumper, driver's seat, have all new steering components, doing kind of a low budget restoration, using new parts for things like steering components, but rust free junkyard body panels. Mine still has a rough idle once it's running, have replplugs, wires, cap and rotor, fuel pump, fixed alot of leaks in the evap system.....thinking it might be injectors, or the vacuum lines from transfer case to front axle.
@@Daytona-fr7fx awesome, I love to see this stuff being saved! Budget restoration is the way to go, parts for these things are so cheap and you can give them a second lease on life. If you don’t have 4x4 engagement, or if your heat/ac only blows on defrost, that’s a pretty common sign of a vacuum leak on these things. Also, just for kicks, re-do the grounds on the driver side fender and see if that works 😂😂
@TheMoparGarage I will recheck the ground, and the vent/defrost like you mentioned. The 4x4 light came on when we loaded it on the trailer, but I dont think the CAD engaged. Do you think a vacuum leak in those lines would cause DTC for large evap leak? I know the system is not so sophisticated that it can detect where the leak is coming from, just that there is a large or small leak..🤔
@@Daytona-fr7fx I have had 2 of them where I had no 4x4 engagement due to vacuum leak, a ‘99 and a ‘98. I didn’t get a DTC on either of them so unfortunately I think the system just isn’t advanced enough.
Wow, I would have never thought about that. I'll take luck over skill any day!! Also, that paint job turned out really nice. Wonder what it would look like with the silver at the bottom?
You know what’s even crazier? The misfire is back after 2-3 days of smooth running glory. This thing just has a mind of its own. Thanks man, I love the color! I thought seriously about going two tone on it but decided to go with a little more of the “sport” trim level look.
Thanks man! It has no downstream sensor because it doesn’t have a cat. There’s a video on the playlist for this truck where I replace the upstream sensor that shows them in more detail.
Right?! They never appeared bad to the naked eye so I guess I just gave them the benefit of the doubt. Now I wish I’d just gone ahead and replaced them years ago 😂
01' Sport 4X4 Would crank, but not roll over. 30 days shade tree mechanic had it. Flatbedded my truck out to an electrical only shop. Git a call 30 minutes after leaving my truck, PCM was bad, truck back in 4 days! Flash Masters out of Florida. Gave them my Vin# and they sent me a plug & play. Fast-forward 8 years same thing same problem. Flash Masters to the rescue.
@@TheMoparGarage any suggestion on a brand of headers for my 01' Sport. Also an exhaust set up? I sculpt Natural Stone, I can build a home sticks or Adobe & rocks. Just not turn wrenches. I have 77, 7/16 sockets and wrenches for some damn reason. So if you ever need a handful of 7/16 work it out in trade for working on my 01' Sport. Let me know
@@ferrotee2629 haha! That’s funny. The only headers I’ve seen on these trucks are from eBay, they’re kind of a cheap Chinese type deal. They don’t fit well, you need to hammer a dent in them in a couple spots to clear the frame rail. As far as exhaust, I have a flow master 40 muffler on this particular truck and I think it sounds great.
@@TheMoparGarage appreciate the direction. I'll look into the exhaust set up. First car was 1974 'CUDA 360 Magnum. Been Mother MOPAR ever since! I also have a really cool 1997 Nissan Hard Body 4X4.
@@ferrotee2629 love it, happy to help! Mopar for life here as well. I did actually also have a ‘97 hardbody, believe it or not 😂. 4x4 standard cab 5 speed, black with the gold decals down the side. That was one tough truck!
