The movie that put Lou Diamond on the map is "La Bamba". He did a fantastic job playing the role of Ritchie Valens. Tragic true story. So envious that you met the man.

You should definitely watch Young Guns II. I think they're both equally great movies for different reasons. I really think you would enjoy it as much as this one. I kind of view Billy not completely a psychopath but more of a loose cannon that kind of enjoys the thrill of going up against the odds and coming out alive. He's definitely has a huge ego and doesn't mind killing at all. From what I know of this portrayal of Billy in both part I and part II. He does value friendship and is very loyal to the few he would call his friends. He's really just very reckless and incapable of making the most logical decisions I think. I'm not sure who I would pick as my favorite character in this movie but Chavez is definitely the most sympathetic and relatable. I actually got to meet Lou Diamond Phillips at a comic con here in my home city. He was super nice and willing to have a nice conversation with anyone who came to his table. I also got to ask him a question about a 90's horror movie he made called the First Power. Most of the questions people were asking were questions about Young Guns so I thought I'd mix it up a bit. In any case I loved your reaction as always Madison and I really hope you react to Young Guns II very soon.

Back in the early 1980's Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen older brother, was one of the biggest names among young actors. This movie had Emilio in the lead role with the string of up and comings, billed as the next generation of stars. "TAPS" and "Red Dawn" were also billed as a cast of up and comings stars. They all were.

In the actual history, during the Gunfight at Blazer's Mill, Richard "Dick" Brewer wasn't shot in the chest by Andrew L. "Buckshot" Roberts, he was shot right through the eye. Roberts was shot in the stomach by Charlie Bowdre during the gunfight and died the next day from his injuries. Buckshot Roberts and Dick Brewer were both buried side by side near the house where the gunfight occurred.
@rxtsec1
@rxtsec1 10 месяцев назад
Buckshot wanted no part of the war but since he use to ride with Murphy's men he knew he would be implemented if he stayed around so he sold his house and was coming to town to collect his money. The regulators heard about it and came after him. He refused to surrender knowing they would kill him if he did. The movie actually tamed down what actually happened. In real life no only did he kill dick but he wounded 4 other regulators. Doc's and chavez's injuries were potrayed

"Chisum" is a John Wayne movie that's another version of The Lincoln County Wars. John Chisum was a wealthy cattle baron that owned most of New Mexico, was one of the founders of Lincoln, and had been an ally of Tunstall and McSween. The character of John Chisum does make a brief appearance in Young Guns 2, played by James Coburn.

In the actual history of the Battle of Lincoln in 1878, Billy the Kid obviously did not hide inside of a trunk that was tossed from the second story window, as the McSween house was an L-shaped one story house. Instead, Billy led the Regulators out of the back door and into a hailstorm of bullets, where he managed to shoot his way out of the house and escape without so much as a scratch. The trunk gimmick was still a good idea, though. 😂

@@44excalibur The tv series, Billy the Kid, (who knows if its coming back since it stayed off in season 2A) is following the real story a little better but still taking liberties with story telling. There are a ton of Regulators in the show which makes it harder to get used to any. also the story is all about Billy so they don't really get into any of the extra characters. Chavez was introduced in last episode of Season 2A. I keep waiting to hear news of 2B. It's currently in the middle of the Lincoln County Wars and looks like it's leading to the McSween house fight. The entire first season was Billy's back story.

William H. Bonney, alias "Billy the Kid," was actually born Henry McCarty in September or November of 1859 to Catherine and Patrick McCarty in New York City. His younger brother, Joseph McCarty, was born in 1863. Following the death of her husband, Catherine McCarty and her sons moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where she met William Henry Harrison Antrim. They moved with Antrim to Wichita, Kansas in 1870, and then to New Mexico, where Catherine married Antrim in 1873, and Joseph took Antrim's surname. After Catherine's death from tuberculosis in 1874, William Antrim abandoned her sons, leaving Henry (Billy) and his younger brother orphans when Henry was only 14 years old.

Great reaction Madison like always this movie is so good to underrated, did you know that Tom Cruise have a cameo in this movie? Tom Cruise: the fourth person shot when Charlie (Casey Siemaszko) bursts out the house shooting, at around 1:39:18. Cruise was on set one day, and the director thought it would be great to get him on the movie. And there are some fun facts abou this movie, Did you know that it’s not just Billy The Kid that Emilio Estevez plays in Young Guns? In the final shoot out, when Estevez was not needed to play Billy, he dressed as a bad guy and so was shooting for the other side at times in the film. And in the scene when Billy is in the bath and Doc is taking down a letter than Billy is dictating, they wanted it to look like Billy was making it up on the spot and so cue cards were used by crew out of shot to deliver the lines to Estevez to read, and contrary to the occurrences in the movie, “Dirty” Steve Stephens did not die during the Lincoln County War. Following the war, he survived and relocated, he said he was going to Denver, Colorado, but after this point he simply vanishes from history so no-one actually knows what happened to him or where his final resting place is. Keep up the amazing work.

Another Billy The Kid movie, sort of is a movie called Chisum (1970), starring John Wayne, Ben Johnson and Forrest Tucker as Murphy. It's more about John Wayne's character but Billy The Kid is part of it and so is Pat Garrett. By the way, Pat Garrett, here. was played by John Wayne's son, Patrick Wayne. There is a sequel to this movie, Young Guns 2, starring Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips reprising their roles as well as William F. Peterson replacing Patrick Wayne as Pat Garrett. The same William F.Peterson who of course got to play a Gus McRay type character in Return To Lonesome Dove you are missing out on.

The smirk on Billy's face after Charlie said, "Kill somebody?"...supposedly, the "somebody" was Frank Cahill, a blacksmith Billy killed in August of 1877. The story goes that Cahill was mercilessly taunting Billy and the taunting turned into a physical assault. Billy got the drop on Cahill and that's what led to him being on the run. Before this came out, I thought westerns were boring. This made them fun. We saw all these guys in other cool roles, so we couldn't wait to see them tackle an action-packed western. The western-tinged 80s rock soundtrack added to the vibe.

It used to be common to take a stage name for probably a handful of reasons, but primarily if you had an ethnic sounding name. For whatever reason Emilio stuck with the Estevez name, but Charlie decided to go with Sheen, at least professionally. Emilio is older and was famous first as part of the "Brat Pack" of actors in the 80s. If you haven't seen it, John Hughes' "The Breakfast Club" is a personal favorite of his besides these movies.

Coming from a very rural community I gotta say I’m hate for you that you were injured in a horse riding accident. But so many times I’ve seen people come out of them with broken pelvis and legs and necks. So I’m thankful your injuries were not worse. Also Young Guns is the movie I chose in my senior year interview as my favorite movie. Maybe that’s changed in the last 33 years. But it’s still awesome!!

Emilio Estevez is probably most known for his role as the Jock in the Breakfast Club. He is also Charlie Sheen's brother, Emilio taking his father's real surname and Charlie taking his stage name. Their father is Martin Sheen.

Young Guns 2 is a MUST. The sequel is as good if not better than the first. And if anything the two films work very well together as a complete saga/story.
@44excalibur
@44excalibur 10 месяцев назад
Not really. The continuity of the second film is all wrong. At the end of the first Young Guns, Pat Garrett is already in the running to become the new Sheriff of Lincoln County and delivers the warning to Billy about the Murphy-Dolan faction going after the McSweens. In the sequel, they show Pat Garrett as actually being part of Billy's gang and then leaving to become a businessman until he's approached about taking the job of Sheriff, which makes no sense and is totally inconsistent with the first film. The sequel also ignores the epilogue of the first film where it says that Doc went east with his Chinese wife, and Chavez ended up in California. Instead, the sequel has Chavez and Doc dying before Pat Garrett finds Billy at Fort Sumner, which is also inconsistent with the original film.

Lou Diamond Phillips' signature role is definitely as Ritchie Valens in La Bamba(1987). His role here as Chavez in Young Guns and Young Guns II is definitely way up there for him though, probably 2nd only to La Bamba. I would say Billy the Kid is definitely Emilio Esteves' signature role though.

Hi, just found your channel and subbed just because of the Lou Diamond Phillips story at the start. It’s great to know he’s a nice guy as he was a favourite actor of mine growing up but It’s unlikely that I will get a chance to meet as I’m from the U.K.

Since you like the 'real' history and fictionalizations thereof, you definitely need to watch Young Guns II (1990).

Longmire is so good. Have watched it a few times. Henry is definitely my favorite character. I was going to suggest it as a series to react to if you hadn’t seen it.

This FILM is actually very close to the historically accurate! Basically covered to highlights (BATTLES) of the Lincoln County War.

The “young hot cowboys” theme took off because of this. Long hair on guys became even more popular. This inspired a pretty good TV show called The Young Riders. I believe all episodes are on youtube. Stars a young Josh Brolin and the excellent Melissa Leo (amongst others) before people really knew how good she was. EDIT: The Young Riders uses historical inspirations but isn’t dead accurate. Still, good Western story, drama, action in a TV format.

As a young film student in Australia, I also love that the director of photography was an Australian legend and the solarised film intro was a unique film processing technique at the time.

@6:33 Dermot Mulroney starred in a great john hughes produced movie starring jennifer connely and frank whaley called Career Oppurtunities (also stars Dermot’s brother) He also costarred with a big Bridget Fonda at the time in iirc the americanised la femme nikita. A few other roles, a romantic julia roberts movie and some big TV roles (Friends etc).

@6:39 Casey Siemasko (and his sister acts too) was in a bunch of stuff back then and some of those were big ones, like Stand By Me (part of Kiefer’s gang in that too). He also has a hand in the most iconic Western video games and voices some characters in both Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2.

It's embarrasing to say, but Chavez became my favourite because of the knives. I've always had a soft spot for the knife-throwers. Whether it be Airk in "Willow", Chavez in "Young guns" or Billy Rocks in the remake of "The magnificent seven." The only one I can remember not liking was Navajas in "Desperado." Maybe because he was so clearly a villain and henchman.
