Just don’t ever change!! We’re watching cause you’re so sincere and being ‘the boy’ even us older tomboys, wish we could be. Every day you’re still being the kid we wish we could all be. Yours is the most refreshing, candid, sincere vlog I watch! I love when you ‘talk’ to us, like “pick up our end of the board” to no avail 😩🤪. You brighten my day whenever I see you’ve posted.
Well put! I really like all this and how it's not commercial "influencer" thing trying to sell me something. I live in Finland and the forest and the climate is very similar here. That makes this even more awesome👍I also love how mr. Ringworm has made fully conscious choices between work, comfort, money, free time and responsibilities. That is the most important thing.
Wow! You're getting really good at free handing those boards. Amazing! Love your quotes and dry sense of humor. You're really entertaining. Love that you just live day by day and make decisions on the fly. Love, love, love it! You keep making vids, I'll keep watching.
My wife and I enjoy watching your videos. My thinking has always been ,keep productive every day. Your doing a great job of that. We some how got old and we can't do what you are doing ,so where just going to watch you. We laugh alot to, which is always good 👍. Wondering if peanut butter sales have increased. We built a deer stand which turned out to be a dear stand. Then we built a tree house up there. 18 ft off the ground, with a handicap ramp to get my lawn mower up there. We go up on the dear stand every night for a year and a half with the four dogs to sleep. If I new how to send a picture I would ,but born to early. Don't want to waste my perfectly good brain to figure it out. Have fun!
Hey Stranger just getting caught up on your videos. I am sorry haven't been around for a bit have been in hospital getting new legs fitted. Ok I think I have a new challenge for ya. How about building a moving target for your range, is that possible? Also how about making a wish list of machines or chains that you want where we can buy it or put money towards it for you, kinda like a registry. I am extremely happy that your subs have increased, Keep up the great content and work.
"I really really don't care to do it the right way" This is exactly why I'm here. Just a dude in the woods havin fun. In a world where so much is drilled into us about how we should live, you're doing it your way mate, and I bloody love it. Lookin forward to that bowed gazebo.
You and my husband must have been separated at birth!! He loves your beginning quotes, all that you save, build, thrift, reuse, recycle, explain, your mentality etc. You said in your one video that things like the AT will kill it for you and my husband and I looked at each other and smiled. You’re an awesome example and encouragement but yet killin me! lol
Luv ur village!!! I'm just a Hillbillie from New Brunswick, Canada myself, currently living in the Stampede city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Didn't know what swimtrunks were till I reached 18!! Worked the forest since I could swing an axe. We owned 800 acres of riverbottom and forest. Potatoes man potatoes!! Cows horses chickens ducks turkeys geese cats dogs deer moose partridge eagles wolves coyotes beaver salmon trout river creek ponds brooks. Hated it became a teacher. N.B. is beside Maine. Alberta north of Montana🍁🍁🇨🇦
You need to consider a cabin, not now - but for when you need it later (25 years future you with backache will thank your today self). Call it a visitor place now, but you'll love it later My only question is, you're living outside in Michigan and I've never seen you fish - do you expect me to believe that?
@@survivingringworm2202 I thought you looked like a navy man, you remind me of my uncle and a few friends that were enlisted. Is it odd that I can see it? Idk. It’ll be odd if I’m not correct tho!🤣
Thanks for the video; your efforts are appreciated and I think I'm beginning to get the drift of where you're "at". The only advice I can pass along is simply "DO IT" until it isn't fun any more. The dog is a good idea, I think. Just remember the Bernese don't live a long life so prepare mentally for a heartbreak. I don't mean don't get one. I'm on my seventh dog now (a ten year old Basset Hound) who is a rescue. I moved to the "sticks" thirty one years ago on an old run out farm and woodlot. I'm setting up a bandsaw mill mostly because I have a lot of dead standing and dead-fall spruce, but the chainsaw mill works good and is somehow satisfying just to see that board or timber happen. I'm 77 and if you think of it, let me know what I should do when I grow up.
Ya know, I'd just suggest that you keep on doing things as you are. Eventually something will inspire you to grow up. I bet 40 or 50 years from now, you will be tired of having fun and acting however you currently like to act. Yup. Just wait for a sign from the gods. Maybe it will come while you are milling up all that spruce. That's MY plan anyway.
And yes, it's too bad Berners are so short-lived. By the numbers, one of the shortest of any breed. It's the only negative I can think of for them tho.
I love it! "I do it because I wanna!" No simpler answer. You're definitely a different kinda person! I lived in a hammock in woods that may or may not have been legal to live on. One of the best years of my life. Zero rent, Showered at my parents or work, Food was what i could cook and keep in a cooler. Worst case I was asked to leave or I came home and the $200 of stuff I had was gone, darn. Keep at it! Love what you're doing!
Were you the dude with dreads under the pier at Garnet making seashell necklaces..... Another great vid. Thank you Sir. In a world of log cabins.... be a ringworm.
Ringworm points! Who knew we could be collecting these -to turn in later for Peanut Butter (not yours of course)???? All the best and thanks for your updates on all your amazing (and totally crazy), and off the cuff projects! Be well. -your worthless lumber moving assistant.
Good Morning to you also Downeastwaves, 04:00 here. Well friend up in the morning watching videos and happy to listen to all the questions and answers to start the day.
my first time finding your videos. really enjoyed it and props for being one of the few videos I see that someone is actually wearing proper safety gear using a chainsaw. living many peoples dream, my nephew is doing somewhat the same.
Many people wish they could build a cabin in the woods to live in. Ryan lives in the woods, because he doesn't want to live in a cabin. I love that mindset!
Wash-house to take care of yourself and other people/bernie maybe, tool-shed because repairing and maintance is cheap, new tools aint. Out-house, well dont think i need to explain. I get it cabin fever, sow what light plants and what not. You can easly clear a patch grow food, propper composting and care. You would even get to live butt cheaper. Maybe have a propper debarking tool, sow i dont have to swollow my haert every time you use a bowie knife, for mad-man bushcraft. Best of luck, your awsome. Be you or what not.
Here is a quote by a fractal of God.... "The soul conceives, the mind creates, the body experiences. The soul, then knows itself in its own experience".
I'm a bloke and Scottish so can't comment on the stud thing, but the Sun sets in the west, not the east. Actually here in Scotland it sets more in the north than west at this time of year. Really enjoy your videos, and that you're are not homesteading. So keep doing exactly what you're doing, until you don't want to. Or at least until there's no peanut butter left. Then go to town to get some more. Cheers.
You do realize that it just takes light for solar panels to produce power yeah clear skies will produce more but cloudy days produce plenty as well!!!! P.S. I live on the Best end the West end of the U.P.!!!!
Ringworm, Amen! I think what your doing is really holistic! And I think your living an honest, and simple life. I do the very same thing, by reusing and recycling what I have. I live in a very rural town in virginia on top of a mountain and I'm doing alot of the things you are doing. It's really fun and I get up in the morning ready to get my day going. I learn alot from what your building and take some of your ideas. Im gonna build your deer blind next! I love the exercise, fun and the peaceful nature and animals around me while I'm on my land. I too live on very little, so I keep my costs down. It is, it's fun and a joy to do your own agenda and do it your way! So I'm watching and learning!
Hi Ryan. Can't wait until the gazebo is done. Are U going to have screens around it? How do U do your laundry? How much land do U have? I've been sick & was in hospital but ok now. Had to run some tests & found out I have some nerve damage from a truck accident I had a while ago. Use to drive a semi with my brother. Don't cause he is gone since 5/4/08. U keep doing what U are doing & really enjoy yourself. Be safe as always-love to be there being outdoors & working with the wood. God Bless... Phoenix
Glad you are on the mend, Peggy! Sound like a drag, the hospitals and tests. I'm planning to screen the whole thing, top to bottom so there is nothing breaking up the nice view.
I know there’s several variables, but I’d love to know how to plan financially for something like this. I’d hate to start out and have to go back to work because it costs more than I expected. Plus, I’m intimidated leaving my comfortable perception of financial security
Love your videos, love the outdoors, I was wondering what type of chainsaw mill you use. I’m thinking about getting one. Keep doing what you want to do, and I’ll keep getting your videos.
I spent the whole day at hospital my wife had a heart attack and had to have surgery was a stressful day got home very late and needed to relax, so I put on your videos somewhere in there I fell asleep thank you for the restful night I’ll keep the shows on running one to another there very relaxing to me. Something about chainsawing and you calm voice. I’ll come back and rewatch later when I can concentrate on what you are really doing. Thanks again
17:30 "I don't know how to do it the right way" The way that worked, with what you had on hand, that gave you the product that met your standards, IS the right way. Same people that get bent about doing it the "right" way also think a gun is a weapon. It's not. It's a tool. The weapon is that thing between yer ears. The gray stuff. (I don't think earwax counts) 20:40 The only problem with a dog out there is that, though YOU smell bad to a bear, a bear probably won't think yer dog smells bad. More like bacon. Or a pretty girl. Depends. And dogs are stupid loyal. They try to defend you against things like porcupines, wolves, badgers, stoats, coyotes, and bears, rather than let you deal, or not deal, with it.
I watch your videos for the same reason you make them. Fun! Which is why I haven’t asked a question about “why don’t you?” I’m sure that during your time on the AT and PCT you heard the saying “Hike your own hike”? That’s how I am with RU-vid content. It’s not my hike. It’s your hike. You’ve just invited us along. Some people should be letting you hike your hike. 😁
How about hikers around the area , any problem’s with any of them . And how often do you get to see your girlfriend…I love the blocks you made for logs or stands for boards . I made some up great idea and very cheap to make …. I use thermacell all the time .
Nope. Not much access to my neck of the woods so not much worry about anyone stumbling onto my property. I get to see the girl once or twice a month for several days or longer. It's an amazingly perfect setup really!
Does your state have a clause where... you can have a well without a permit if its under like 20 feet or something like that? Many states require a permit to do wells... BuT there's a catch where they actually specify only needing a permit if its over a certain number of feet deep in. Your state should have a low water table (low as in close to surface).
You are great... Doing what jou feel..i love to see you woeling that awesume sawmill.. I too have my Stihl... doing Nice sawing with it. I found a treetrunk of which i want to make an indian totem pole to put on my estate. I live i Holland in a gipsy wagon and when i feel like shit i just take my drill and start building something. I am 72, and love to live remote. Please go on with your videos...🙏
I know I'm still a year out on videos 😂 but I don't like skipping ahead but I was wondering if you ever built you a pantry just for food storage that is up high enough for big animals not to get into. That way it would be almost like going to the store to get food but from your own stockpile. Then people could send you different kinds of food, from other countries too, maybe. Or a lifetime supply of peanut butter 😂. The build would be great even if you don't have a ton of food to store in it ☺️
Growing up I lived on an island , my parents had waterfront property. I loved to be outside and sleep outside so just started sleeping outside every night all summer. On rainy nights I pulled my sleeping bag under cover. I fell asleep watching shooting stars and ferry boats all summer for many many years . I totally understand your loving sleeping in a tent rather than in a building.
We have a 1 year old bernedoodle... if you can find a breeder, highly recommended! Ours is unfurnished so she looks like a long haired black lab but the furnished ones are covered in curls.
I totally agree with your comment on chainsaw milling vs. Band saw. I found your channel because of chainsaw milling. I've been doing chainsaw milling for a couple years now, and haven't sold or used a single plank...I just love to open up a log and see what's inside! (All my milling is on trees that have been cut or fallen already.) But I'll soon be building a picnic table based on yours, and will be using your "cut and skootch" method a lot.
I second the thermacell. Was cleaning fish Memorial Day weekend and you went outside to fish clean fish or use the bathroom. Turned that thing on waited 5 minutes and cleaned a limit of bluegills without a bite at dark. Love mine they even have a small lantern one that works well for a nightlight
I don't know how I could have made it out here this long without that thing. Seriously, it makes life worth living when you are in the woods 24/7. Or cleaning fish!
* Quick Question : Can you tell us why you prefer screws,( which snap when twisted in the wind ) or Nails,( which eventually rust away ) over Dowel-Pegging ? Inquiring minds want to know is all... Thanks for posting these videos Bro ! ~ Mr Cross ~ / Detroit, Michigan
I grew up in lower Michigan, my family were homesteaders in the U.P. So I know the challenges you face on a yearly basis. Tough winters. Being a wrestler I’ve survived ringworm more times that I can count. It’s just athletes foot of the body, goes away with cream. My point is I stumbled upon your channel and it’s amazing. I also bought property in 08 in a temperate rain forest in Washington state. What you are doing is showing me what is possible with little money but many resources. We have a river and a tree farm on the property. The trees are real big, spruce, Douglas fir, big leaf maple, western red alder. I wanna be like you but society seems to keep me from doing it. Any tips? I still live in mich, but spend summers out there.
So if you are ever looking for funding ideas cuz you're bored. I highly recommend putting out a coffee table book with the photos from ringworm with a little write up of when or what it is. The still photos you share with us are amazing
