I was wondering why this video felt so nostalgic, but it's because you're sitting in front of your bookshelves and this very much feels like 2014 Carrie video's :)
The thing about makeup is also that between the distance from audience to stage and the lighting, sometimes things don’t have to be picture perfect to look like it is. Like with Cats, you don’t have to take ages to get the look distinct and correct for stage. Or makeup made to age someone, it’s not going to be perfect up close but it’s going to work for stage. Also I loved the face you made when you backtracked on “thrust into positions” 😂😂
I thought of Hannah Lowther when you were talking about swings/ensemble cast members who are so fab at everything the producer's want to keep a hold of her. I fully believe she could act out heather's on her own and be brilliant!!! x
Oh my god! That second to last question is something we talk about in Community Theatre a lot. I am usually always cast the smaller roles to help fill the acting in musicals or just the odd roles in plays. I used to feel weird about it until directors told me that it’s because I make the small roles bigger. Swings and covers and the lot are just incredible performers. I wish we talked about the politics more when it comes to casting! It is so interesting! Wonderful video btw 🥰
You are such an amazing speaker!! I could listen to you all day!! I definitely think you should do a part 2 of this vid !! Love listening to the theatre assumptions !
I just want to say I love your videos so much, ite because of you that I found my passion for theatre and I cannot thank you enough for that. I also want to thank you for your books because every moment I spend reading them is golden and I wouldn't trade that for anything. Can't wait for the Disney videos!
Loved the video and also thank you for the love towards ensemble members and covers because after being in an ensemble show after show at school it's nice to actually hear someone speak positivtley about the work they do. Getting hate after hate at school if you were in the ensemble and almost being looked down upon was not fun! And yes I know school and theatre work in the west end are very different but it's still nice to be appreciated as ensemble members work so hard and are still kind of forgotten about imo. ❤
Honestly for a person like me who is training to go into the industry and is nervous about casts and getting to know people this is so helpful. I also love how you can just sit down and talk about these things, I love all your videos backstage and at Disney etc but this just feels like you’re sat down and talking to me as a friend who wants that feeling of it’s okay to be nervous about those things. I thanks you 1 million times over…sending all the love ❤️
I got massive pangs of pure nostalgia just seeing you do a sit down chatty video. All that was missing was the Fallen Snow tune in the back ground and I may have cried. May Myself and I feeeeels.
Love the video and I just wanted to say how much happier you seem and more relaxed in the more recent videos. I am so happy for you that you are clearly in a good place in life currently! ❤
Love these videos and the fact we get to learn more about musical theatre. I last saw you in Cinderella and I met u at the stage door even though it was late you kindly waited for everyone who came to see you and I'm so Greatful for that. I have been reading some of your books too and they are also amazing. Thank you for keeping my musical theatre spark alive.xx
I can relate to some of this! I work in film & TV production and people assume it must be an easy job! They don’t realise the amount of prep that goes into it beforehand, sort of like theatre rehearsal/tech days, and the hours are long and it can be stressful! And the amount of people you will work with on one production, its insane! Once the job ends you lose contact with most of them as people move onto new projects but your paths sometimes cross again on future jobs and it’s always nice to catch up when that does happen, but yes not everyone will end up in your circle of friends. It’s not all glamour in the Arts! But we love it!
YES! It's the "do you get to sleep in every day" questions I find the hardest because I'm like well...yeah when the job gets going I often don't need to be in work until 6 BUT...that's after about twelve weeks of thirteen hour days! 😂 And yes! Your circle of friends ends up being an amalgamation of all the jobs you've done! Which is wonderful!
Love to hear you talk about theatre, you're so passionate about it! I would love to see an "Author assumptions" video as I'm sure there are lots if misconceptions about you specifically when it comes to writing given you were known prior to your books.
Loved this! Like a blast from the past. I remember seeing you and Rob as Eponine and Marius in 2014, and many times since. Then when you were Fantine at the staged concert. Would LOVE to see you return as Fantine, but Madame Thenardier would be hilarious too. It's so nice to hear that you'd be open to return to Les Mis. Thanks for being so nice at stage door back in 2014 and later, you've brought me so much joy.
Love getting your insights Carrie. Literally just came home from seeing Hamilton in a theatre to watch your vid while I take off my makeup and love absorbing myself in all aspects of Theatre Also feels so nice seeing this style of video from you, I get the sense you don't feel the need to censor yourself so much and the more relaxed approach shines through 😊
Carrie, you did a cameo for me for Valentine's Day from my husband James. It was so meaningful. Thank you so much for the lovely words. Hugs from the USA!
I absolutely love these kind of videos, they’re so nice to watch; thank you Carrie!💜 (also pls make an Amsterdam stop on your tour, we’d love to have you over here x)
Ahhh I love a good old RU-vid style video!!! And LOVE Theatre assumptions, ahh basically I adored this whole video 😂, a personal assumption would be so intriguing!! And AHHH DISNEY VIDEOS, Carrie you are fuelling my desire to go back!! PURE HAPPINESS is what I am feeling!! 💚
I just suddenly remembered your channel today and I am so happy to see you’re still creating content!! God, like 2014-ish I loved watching your videos. I believe I first saw you in one of Phil’s videos, such a nostalgic era for me. I hope you’re doing well❤️
My dad runs a theatre school and theatre summer camps and to scare us we were told that the mics would still be on when we're not on stage so we shouldn't talk. We quickly found out this wasn't the case but like you said, we still stayed quiet within reason
This was such a lovely video! I've only worked in small scale American theater so it's interesting to see what working in larger scale productions and companies is like, but a lot of the principles are the same. It's fun and a bit nostalgic to hear about!
I assume carrie hope fletcher is the most amazing, pretty, talented, stunning, funny, inspiring person in the whole wide world 💜 But seriously carrie! You videos are so amazing and I watch them all ALL THE TIME You inspire me soooo much and your amazing 💜
LOVE the nostalgia of these kind of videos!! Thoroughly enjoyed and cannot wait for the next Disney vlog!💗 Just a quick message to say thank you really - Kindness and positivity radiates from you through the screen/stage and it was so lovely to experience the exact same in person when I met you at stage door on the last Panto show! I never normally stage door due to nerves (I can barely order my own food haha), but you made me feel so welcome and at ease! Thank you for being so so lovely xx
Oh my goodness that's so so lovely of you to say! I'm honoured you came to stage door to say hello if that's not something you usually do! Thank you! (I can barely order my own food, too! You aren't alone!
@@Carrie honestly, thank YOU so much! You are such an inspiration to so many🥰. I’m sure I was all flustered and couldn’t say exactly what I wanted to at stage door, so I thought I’d comment it haha! I hope you enjoyed your Disney book and chocolate! I’ve booked to see your musical heaven podcast recording and hoping to come to your tour, so hopefully shall see you then too!!💗xx
Love these little snippets into behind the curtain theatre life. I have had my own assumptions throughout the years. Many of which, your insights have kicked into touch and I can honestly say that I have a greater respect for those working in theatre because of this. Thank you x I cannot wait to see you as Madame T!!! Cameron, if you are listening, make it happen pleeeeeeease 😉🤞🤞🤞😊🙃
Great insights and it’s lovely to have you posting more videos at the moment. Also very much enjoyed what you managed to do with your index fingers at around 15:23 - so many talents! 🤗
Think the last question was my fave, shout out to the person who asked it! ❤ I met Rob (and you) at stage door after les Mis when it was the Queens theatre, can’t wait for more Scott and Carrie in Disney videos!
Really enjoy these vlogs I always learn something new and interesting. Can’t lie though I am looking forward to more Disney vlogs the pure childish joy in your and Scot’s face just makes them x ❤ x
I found it very funny when you said, that to do the makeup for everyone would take hours - because: Over the last few years I have been working part time on several theatre productions of my local theatre in my city in Germany. I think a difference here is also that there is not a new casting for every new production where the whole ensemble gets switched out entirely, but there is a "core ensemble" at the theatre and there are also several productions running at the same time with mainly the same people (and they change the whole set and everything almost every day depending on what's playing tonight). But back to the makeup. So I have been working there as an extra or dancer or for small roles and except for one production every time I had hair and makeup done by the hair and makeup team. And as this team wasn't bigger here then what you mentioned (I believe around 6 or 7 people) that meant that I had to come in for makeup most of the time at least 2 hours before the start of the show (because I was one of the least important parts and they handed out makeup times according to the relevance of your part). So yes you're right - when you would try to have everyone's makeup done by the makeup team it would take hours. But I actually didn't mind as I found it really relaxing and the result was a lot better than what I would have been able to do ^^
I love these videos! It definitely give me more knowledge about theatre! Definitely good for a person like me who wants to pursue theatre as a career! Thank you for sharing this Carrie! You are AWESOME! ❤❤❤❤
This is timely... first snow day for my school of the year and rehearsal, by extension, is cancelled. Terribly disappointed... but a new Carrie video helps ease the theatre-sized hole in my day!
Thank you for doing this ! It makes me understand how the theatre works a-bit more ! Also the green jumper you’re wearing goes really well with your hair ! I can’t wait for the Disney videos ❤ I love Disney, Disney ,magic ,castle and pixie dust !! Btw do you have a schedule for posting videos on RU-vid ? So we can get excited for the next one and be prepared to watch it ? If not, don’t worry !
Great video seeing your insights into the theatre industry. I hope you had a great time in Disneyworld when you went with your family. I wanted to say this to you when I saw you at Piccadilly Circus Station earlier this week when I was on my way to work at the Prince of Wales Theatre
Me and my partner were cast as husband and wife together during our Theatre degree for our final performance at The Dukes in Lancaster, and a showmance happened! Can confirm it's not just musical theatre, it's ANY theatre.
I'm distracted by the fact that your top looks suspiciously like a sweater dress I own 😮 but as a community theatre actress, I love hearing you talk about these topics!
I feel like there are some ensemble tracks that are just so good and have such good costuming that I would happily go from principle to ensemble just to do that track... Like even if I was Patti Lupone I would happily play the member of the Wicked ensemble who wears the giant feather boa in One Short Day just because that costume looks so fun
Hi Carrie I just recently got into Cinderella can't stop listening to the music. My theatre assumption is I assumed you had played Elphaba in London. Apparently not (yet). Love from Canada.
Love the behind the scenes videos you do.... I have an assumption about the importance of each aspect of musical theatre and that someone (particularly principle roles) singing ability is more important than acting which in turn is more important than dancing ability...
I’ve always wondered if when the ensemble is on stage and it’s a scene where they are “pretend” chatting in the background - are they making up a conversation? Do they have the same pretend conversation every show? Are they having a conversation about what they are doing later 🤣
@@carriemummy Not in my experience (US regional theatre tours). I’ve had full convos, often picking up from where we finished in the previous show. Obviously you can’t get too deep because you are onstage listening for your cues, but in long runs it helps break up the monotony.
🙋♀️I vote to be completely buried (happily) in Disney content! But of course, if we *must* wait, then that's fine too, but I just adore the Disney content so much! I'm especially looking forward to all the Disney vlogs to see all the fun you got into with Scott. Like u, Carrie, I love seeing people newly introduced to Disneyworld and experiencing it through their eyes.
