Only polymerization master of all four elements and darkness can stop blue eyes white dragon but it vanished. 100 years a have we discovered a new card although rarely used I believe super polymerization can save the world
I would love an archetype based on 5 headed. Each head could be a main deck monster add some spells and traps that generally work with dragons and get cumulative effects for different attributes.
Would a Five-Headed Blue-Eyes White Dragon fit in this category? Like, it could be a fusion monster and its materials could be five blue-eyes dragon monsters.
Although a cool concept, I don't think blue eyes would fit with Kaiba's business rivals. I can see a new master of dragon knight though. Maybe any blue-eyes monster + any chaos monster.
Which is actually what I think is going to happen, so that Dark Magician of Chaos can fuse with Blue-Eyes, ***and we finally get Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes merging.
There are a few archetypes that already cover all elements too. Dragon maid would work nice. Though I'd prefer aromas or magical girls with a DNA surgery in play.
Five Headed Dragon also made an appearance in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monsters mini-series but was defeated by Yugi who used the power of blue eyes white dragon.
Considering that the link version of five headed dragon is unaffected by other card effects and is a massive beat stick that can ONLY die in battle to a light attribute monster, makes it worth the maintenance cost in my opinion
Until it gets a kaiju slapped on top of it lol, but you can say that about almost everything so still not bad, and when people run things like Fairy Tale Snow i dont think banishing 5 from grave is much of a cost for some decks lmao
Unless you bring out cards that can remove the cards from the GY, like rainbow neos and evigishki mind augis, and stall with other cards that will make FHLD unable to do anything... Or just put imperial iron wall and the dragon goes to the GY
@@thecheneytribe5439 wait, but don’t cards that are banished face down Act like there COMPLETELY gone? Like they aren’t gonna be able to be even mentioned in the game
Honestly the more I've gotten into DnD, the more I'm noticing all the references and inspirations in YGO, especially in the earlier years. Kind of surprised no one has made a TTRPG based on Duelist Kingdom or the game talked about here yet.
Because Konami, in all of their infinite greed, hasn't realized the lowest hanging fruit that people have been begging for. And yes I genuinely have heard people say they'd want some variant of Monster Quest to be made into a real game.
It's always stupid, short sighted greed that keeps us from having nice things... >:( Screw it, I'm gonna jot this down and see if I can't homebrew something unofficial when I get time lol
Another major issue is, in the U.S. at least, DnD is the largest and only reasonably respected TTRPG 'of the mind', and it's also owned by Wizards of the Coast, who own Magic: The Gathering. As much as I know we would all love to see an official yugioh module for DnD, it's like saying you want to see Kratos in Smash bros., it's just not happening. If Konami did strike a deal with another company to simulate ygo in ttrpg, it would be a massive risk on their part, as not only would it require development of a whole new system, which would take years, but it would *need* to be supported for multiple years afterward to see any profitable returns. At least, if we're being honest. While it sounds like greed, it's business basics, especially for a large corporation like Konami, a few bad moves and a failed risk could put the whole company on edge. Now, if somebody wanted to develop a basic system for the ttrpg, and then bring it up to konami executives, if they'll even listen to you, that would be the best way to go about it. You see, corporations require something tangible most of the time, before they're willing to put any of their own effort into it. Boards don't like fantasies, and that's what this would ultimately be for them. And now I have some ideas involving GURPS and my massive collection of cards...
i mean, the original concept by Takahashi himself in the Manga was a card game called like, Magic and Wizards or something. I forget the exact translation. But suffice to say i don't doubt there's some kind of DnD/MtG inspiration behind it. MtG did debut in 1993 after all, 3 years before the Yu-Gi-Oh! Manga.
@@lethalButters You're aware that figure you're quoting isn't annual revenue, but total revenue correct? Otherwise you're absolutely right. I make the same argument with Pokemon all the time. They can afford to make mistakes and misteps, because they have so much money that a normal person would be set for their entire life if they had that kind of cash. Even then being in the top 25 highest grossing IPs of all time, the vast majority above them being Disney, and Nintendo. Konami could easily splurge.
In our childhood, we used to believe that you must use Darkfire Dragon, Metal Dragon, Serpent Night Dragon/Red-Eyes and two other dragons like Curse of Dragon, Tri-Horned, Seiyaryu, Hyozanryu, Tyrant Dragon, Luster Dragon, Thousand Dragon etc. in order to summon it. We argued why a certain dragon can or can't be used lol
Ideally, the Link Monster would be used as a final push to deal with all the opponent’s remaining cards on the field. It could work in something like Dragonmaids or Dragon Link, assuming the latter has enough dragons of various Attributes. Ideally, the maintenance cost wouldn’t come into play as the duel would end the same turn it is summoned.
Five-Headed Link Dragon's summoning condition is very easy to meet, since it just requires any five monsters at minimum, so you can abuse token strats with him. He's the main monster on my kuriboh deck and I've had the chance to play two on the same turn on Master Duel. It's crazy seeing opponents try to remove it by any means and failing due to being unnafected.
I'd honestly love to see a Deck that could abuse it. It can kind of get stuck by Nibiru though pre-summoning (Nibiru won't work once it's out though since the mass-Tributing is an effect).
Legendary Heroes, Virtual World, Grand Championship, and Capsule Monsters (Definitely counts) ...Nope, that's 1 head of filler appearances short, buddy.
Just a fun fact I thought was worth mentioning, I always felt like FGDs design was based specifically on Tiamat's depiction in the anime Record of Lodoss war, if you look up the anime's OP it appears towards the end.
For a semi iconic boss monster from the DM Era, I’m suprised it doesn’t have an archetype yet. It could be seeing the individual dragons each with different effects. And hell, shove Red-Eyes in there since the dark head looks like it anyways
I remember five headed dragon also appearing in the animated version of capsule monster colloseum and yugi fusing together with blue eyes white dragon to defeat it :O
Looking at a video on Five Headed Dragon, it makes me think there’s potential for a “Was The Big Five about to defeat Yugi and Joey?”. One instance is when Nezbitt takes over from Johnson; had Johnson got another turn, used his deck master’s effect to banish all of their monster’s, destroy Mirror Force with Heavy Storm and attack Joey directly with Machine King defeating him. Yugi would be at a huge disadvantage at this point and would likely loss.
Yugi would definitely lose in that scenario, because he would not be able to summon the mirage knight or the dark magician knight without Joeys help, and he doesnt have Slifer in this duel, so I really dont know what he could possibly do against Five headed dragon on his own.
You mentioned the Future Fusion/Dragon's Mirror combo, but you forgot to bring up another hilarious thing you could do with this: dump a bunch of fodder you could revive with Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, use for synchros and stuff, *then* Dragon's Mirror them once your combos were done.
I realized something, if Arc-V had a ritual dimension we could have had a new version of the 5-headed Dragon using the 5 dimensional dragons (Pendulum, Syncro, Xyz, Fusion and Ritual) as material, in fact, the Dragon of the Supreme King Z-Arc could have been a 5-headed dimensional dragon. Actually, even without the 5th, the Z-Arc Supreme King's Dragon could have been a 4-headed dimensional dragon and it would still be very interesting.
I would love a fusion or ritual version that gained different effects for each element you use as material. Fire - added damage when destroying a monster Water - attack again after destroying something Dark - if target isn't destroyed by battle, banish it Wind - Piercing battle damage Earth - Can switch battle position at end of turn Something like that.
if only we had that grass looks greener I'm sure the link retrain could be a really fun tech for dragon links and to be honest I kind of wanna see it now xD Still it really feels like the dragon rulers were kind of made for that card, idk it kind of fits the theme because we already had a lot of dark monster. Anyway to anyone that sees this comment, have a nice day
Honestly... I prefer to use Greater Polymerization when fusion summoning FHD. Giving it immunity to Edit (card effects) as well as inflicting piercing damage makes it extra deadly.
*The Headed/God Dragon Archetype* Make it like the A to Z series, Give it all 5 dragons and let it fuse with different combinations of said dragons. I think the sound of Hot Headed Dragon would be cool.
Hear this: 5 main deck dragons, one for each attribute, if they are used as fusion material for a dragon tipe fusion monster that monster gets an addictional effect from each one of them
I’ve loved this series for a while now, but this is Egyptian God level of Divine timing. Yesterday my D&D group had our 4th to last session of what’s been a four-year long campaign where Tiamat was revealed as the final boss. Edit / Update: We defeated her!!! And fittingly enough, one of the contributing factors to our win was the arrival of a sorcerer / paladin of Bahamut NPC we’d befriended halfway through the campaign who happened to be a young platinum dragon in disguise!!!
Back in the day I used to include FHD and Dragon’s Mirror in basically all of my Dragon decks as a sort of emergency ace. As time has gone on I use it less and less, even in decks where I could conceivably use it with ease. I should make a deck for it, if for nothing else than for casual nostalgia.
@@benoliver5593 Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. It’s already a fusion focused archetype and is made up of dragons, so it can actually be used as a monster as opposed to an equip card like in the Cyberdark deck I last used it in.
During my high school days in 2006/2007, this was my alt win con. Thanks to it's massive attack and semi generic materials. It can act both as Graveyard setup and close out a game if the field is open at the drop of a Dragon's Mirror. And I loved it so.
These are amazing. Love your yugioh trivia so much. Very informative. I wonder if at some point the gusto archetype would come though. One of my favorites
This brings back so many memories of me as a kid binge watching the original Yu-Gi-Oh series seeing this card on the TV screen I miss young version of me ,my childhood and so many things I really want to go back and fix
5-Headed Dragon was an incredibly strong monster when it first came out, but as the years followed, monsters evolved with crazy skills and other cards and archetypes also evolved. Some players can special summon 20 monsters on just 1 turn with no problem. Certainly, 5-Headed Dragon can’t compete with that.
Due to the massive summoning requirement and lack of protection for spell/traps it wasn’t really strong at all when it came out. It was too much investment for a card that could be stopped by mirror force, fissure, dark hole ect
When you see Toons being played and wanna see this dragon have a Toon version of itself and be the first ever Toon fusion card or be a toon version of the Link-summoned counterpart! That would be AWESOME AF!
That’s really weird, I use Future Fusion-Five Headed Dragon combo but I didn’t know Trueman did too. But I’ve never used Dragon’s Mirror with it too. 🤔 have to give that a try
Do not try doing this is the more recent games as Future Fusion got an erotta where the first part of it’s effect happens on the turn after you first activate it. Otherwise, have fun summoning out the big dwagon
A DnD archetype styled around chromatic dragon's and dragon cultists focused on summoning Tiamat, the five-headed queen of evil dragons. Lots of dice rolling effects and cards that grand protection and extra effects to to five-headed dragon.
yeah, for me, and most likely a lot of other people, 5 headed dragon was and still is a cool fusion monster. yes it has its downsides and the link dragon has a high maintenance cost, but at he end of the day, both are still really powerful cards that were at the pinnacle of power at their respective times of release given that a majority of the deck is dedicated to getting them out, helping them stay out, and protecting them from the many forms of destruction like Raigeki, banish effects, negate of their summon, etc. Overall, a great card to have for nostalgia's sake, but not much else considering how easy it is to get rid of it. Great video overall. By the way, can you please do archetype videos for the Nekroz and D/D/D's as well please. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would love to see those videos and get a ton of views. anyways keep up the great work and stay safe.
I wish there was a supporting archetype for five headed dragon, that would be "dragon of elements" like Singe, dragon of elements, Noir, dragon of elements, or other dragon of elements which if you use them for a monster that mentions at least two attributes on it with at least one being their attribute and the other being any other attribute besides light or devine, they give an additional effect to that monster with there being baby and adult versions of the "dragon of elements" and there wouldn't be a light one or a devine one to prevent unnecessary chaos support, and their spell and traps are similar to the Charmers but only can be used on cards that mention at least two non light or devine attributes, and they give the pseudo archetype element a boost as well as desert twister. That would be a fun deck to experiment with in my opinion
any monster with machine looking parts got altered to look natural, tristans shovel crusher had its metal robot claws and metal head changed to have crab claws and a lions head.
The following text is from the Yu-Gi-Oh! wiki page, "Card Storylines" Petit Dragon began his journey becoming the familiar of Wynn, gaining more power as they both grew stronger. One day he decided he wanted to be able to breath fire, so he sought out a plant to give him this power. However, once he ate the plant his body ignited, and he was turned into a vicious dragon. Bent on becoming a more threatening force, he combined powers with four other dragons, making them all become nearly invincible, until the day when they were defeated by a powerful foe. The knight sealed Darkfire Dragon's soul inside a sword. This sword was then wielded by the Flame Swordsman.
I love using the FHD and Future Fusion mixed with Red Eyes Wyvern to summon Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon. Toss in Pot of Avarice and you get a nice set up.
Fun fact, for those that don't know, the dragons that were used in Duel Monster Quest are: -Red Eyes Black Dragon -Curse of Dragon -Harpie's Pet Dragon .....and of course, the Big 5s Mythic Dragon. (Yes, Blue Eyes was also used, but it was later tributed for the fusion summon of Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon) Making these 8 dragons the perfect power boost for Dragon Master Knight, since it has base 5000 attack point, each of those dragons gave 500 additional attack points to the ultimate beast. 4000 points worth, giving Dragon Master Knight 9000 attack. Yes, Mythic Dragon is a combination of different types of dragons, each with their attributes, however their individual head forms had their power sucked into DMK, 500 points for each. Finally, its worth noting that although Curse of Dragon, along with Gaia the Fierece Knight, was used to Ritual Summon the OG Black Luster Soldier, it also had its power added to DMK.
Funny thing about Blue eyes and Bahamut is that Bahamut is the father the metallic dragons of dnd which are typically order aligned and benevolent monsters as opposed to their chromatic brethren that are varying degrees of chaos/evil. Blue eyes often gets joked about looking more and more metallic/robotic over the years in new artworks but really it just cause that’s how the metal dragons of DnD are like with the platinum white dragon, Bahumut standing above all others; gold silver, bronze and copper (amongst many others)
i experimented with the link retrain a bit in Master Duel in a Dragonmaids deck as an emergency boardwipe, since the Dragonmaids themselves fulfill the attributes required of it, and can still be handy in the GY. Never really found myself in a situation where i needed it, though.
Man F.G.D. was my jam on the GBA game "Yu-Gi-Oh GX duel academy" Surprisingly easy to bring out after a few turns (games were often longer back then) through masked dragon recruiting more on death and a few 2k defense dragons...
When I was playing around with a Charmer's deck and had some pendulum mechanics in it, Link Dragon was it's finisher and actually got the 5 element effect to go off a few times. By no means a completive deck, but was still fun.
FGD also appeared during the Capsule Monsters arc, which was literally invincible except against the "White Dragon" i.e Blue-Eyes. It was also part of the Underworld Deck's Fusion Deck but it was never summoned.
Five-Headed Dragon: AKA "You're watching filler when you see this boy!" Back in the day, this monster was decent for big stats, but it's not good at all due to power creep, but it's still memorable.
Five Headed Dragon is such an awesome Dragon Fusion monster and it's so OP It makes its 1st debut in Duel Monsters Quest arc, then reappears in the Virtual World arc, Kaiba Land WC arc and later on Capsule Monsters arc in DM. And finally it makes its final appearance in Season 4 of GX
More fusion monsters that require 5 monsters of the same type, with a conditions on the fusion materials Five Headed Dragon for DRAGONS Quintet Magician for SPELLCASTERS (5 spellcasters with different names). for WARRIORS it would probably specify that the 5 materials have to be warriors with different attributes.
Nah, Warriors should be different levels and he equips his materials, gains their combined stats and an attack for each with a one turn immunity to card effects. You can easily win in one turn if you get him out but only if the enemy can't stop battle damage and lacks a monster with battle immunity.
this makes me think back to Paradox in Bonds Beyond Time. Paradox went getting the most powerful dragons possible and yet FGD was completely skipped over when Blue-Eyes and Red-Eyes were taken. Especially when the computer had FGD so it was completely accessible to Paradox.
4kids could absolutely not get enough of this five headed annoyance lol! the big five twice, and again in grand championship , then AGAIN in capsule monsters!
I would like an archetype explained on the despia, branded, tri brigade, springan and swordsoul as I think it is rather interesting but I can't get an explanation anywhere else. Thanks for all the work you put in I'm every thing you produce and I will always support your work
I have a (i think) bootlegged version of FHD, got it from along with the majority of my collection from a flea market for like 1 dollar....love it, which reminds me that I need to finish making/improving my FHD deck.
I like using it with Borreload savage because I can either send it to the grave for an even bigger beatstick, or keep it there if I have the cost. Bit slow, but it's fun to pull off.
I remember owning the sacred cards, and having to use Slifer and trap cards in order to beat it. I even made Slifer an unstoppable beat stick using mountains and having as many cards as possible b4 summoning it. The next turn is was flipped as a 9000+ atk and def wall.
Hey sam, I have been loving your archetype series and I have been binging it for 3 weeks now. I would love to see Chronomaly and D/D/D archetypes as they refer to history
I use Five-Headed Link Dragon in my Generaider deck in Master Duel, since it is usually easy to get a generaider of each relevant attribute out fairly quick.
So FHD was a reference to Tiamat while Blue Eyes may be a reference to Bahamut. That sounds really cool but now I am imaging what would happened if Kaiba met Bahamut and HE became his ace or Taimat. What am I talking about Kaiba's soul would never allow any other dragon to steal his heart other then Kisara I mean Blue Eyes lol. Still very interesting trivia TGS!
That link dragon card is pretty cool, it's cost is high of course for such a strong card, especially needing 5 different attributes to max out its effects, overall not a bad card, of course the card isn't meant to have on the field for so long with its maintenance cost, but skull drain comes in handy to negate that maintenance
Honestly, I have the Link version in my current Super Quant deck basically as a last resort, where the idea is to use Super Quantal Mech King Great Magnus's graveyard trigger effect to summon back to the field three Super Quantal Mech Beast monsters from the graveyard, and the quick play spell card Super Quantal Alphancall Appeal to summon one Super Quantal Mech Beast from the Extra Deck and a corresponding Super Quantum monsters from the Main Deck on the field in the event of Great Magnus's destruction. That gives me the 5 material necessary to summon Five-Headed Link Dragon, although it doesn't get the bonus field clearing effect through this method, since it pretty much guarantees that it would only get the Fire, Water, and Wind attribute out of the five necessary, as there would basically always be a Light attribute in the mix.
I actually use five headed link dragon in my dragon maid deck. so easy to get the effect and summon them back really fast if you know the right combo of cards.
There were actually 3 warriors that defeated the 5 Headed Dragon in the Virtual World Arc between Yugi and Joey: -Dark Flare Knight -Mirage Knight -Dark Magician Knight
I think it would have been cool if in Battle City Joey could have taken possession of the Five Headed Dragon and used it as his "god card" in the finals.
5 headed Dragon was my goat in my dragon deck I ran just before pendulum monsters where added. I still have the deck because it's so sentimental to me and I refuse to update it
