I have this guy at locals that's just generally a creep that'll often make random misogynistic/homophobic statements. One of the first times I ever played him, going into G2 he verbatim told me as he started his turn "So how should I r*pe you this time?". During a remote event when I played him he literally ragequit (Disconnected without saying a word and not returning) when I was about to beat him. Eventually he started following me around and backseating all my plays, constantly picking up my cards as I was playing someone else. After a few weeks of that I told him to stop touching my cards, which he then proceeded to only partially listen to (Grabbing my cards if I borrowed other people my deck or others were looking at it, pretending to not know they were mine). And worst of all, he'd constantly tell me what female yugioh cards he was sexually attracted to, and Im saying worst of all, since all those cards clearly depicted children (Think Ash blossom, Witchcrafter pottery etc.). At some point I stopped playing in the local tournaments he was in (And he's in all of them, at all gameshops nearby, always), but that meant I wasn't able to have exciting games anymore as Id mostly be playing against common box piles. So after about a year I finally gathered the courage to step to the organizer at my locals with this and they effectively told me that "I wasnt the first person that had complaints about him, but they can't do anything about what happened in the past. If he ever does shit like that again, I should immediately report it and they'll tell him to stop it." I told him I just couldn't feel safe at locals when he's around and I was just told that "They'd be sad if I stopped attending bc of this because they liked me as a person and thought I had a positive influence on the community" I thanked him and proceeded to stop showing up. Made a seperate group with friends I met at locals with the intend to play in a safer environment, sadly with them also attending all 3 locals in our city it's hard to find time to actually play, so now Im just sitting here with a complete Spright and Tearlament deck that I have not played a single game with. I just wish people would grow a spine and stand up for their fellow players that are clearly being harrassed, Im so fed up with this "Everyone should be welcome" mentality, bc that just means you tolerate toxic behaviour and exclude people that are a victim of that behaviour. Sorry for the rant, I know Im just a random that only used to attend locals. But I just miss this game so much and playing online is simply not for me. I just hope someday this community can change for the better and we'll learn that actively rejecting toxic people/behaviour actually created a way better, healthier and more diverse community. But I feel like mankind in general is just not at a point where we're willing to actively stand against shit behaviour as long as it's not affecting us on a personal level, which is really sad :(
Always hate hearing stuff like "its in the past so we cant do anything about it", if multiple people have a problem with one dude its pretty likely hes the problem and should be banned from local events, or punished in some way at the very least. This kinda thing is always so frustrating to hear about.
This is why gatekeeping has never been a bad thing, and anyone who's against the idea is a fool who's never had this happen to them. Gatekeeping can be a good tool to keep out the toxic people who make others not want to play the game. I'm sorry that you went through that. If you're ever in NH, I'd be happy to play you dude.

My sister bought physical cards after getting into master duel. She hasn’t been to locals yet but this is the shit that I worry about if she did. I’m happy to have her got interested in the game so we can play together but I don’t want this shit to happen to her if she gets more invested and wants to play at locals.
We have a guy at locals who like to play the Zexal and utopia cards and he doesn’t win very often so we try to encourage him to play because it’s fun to play against something that isn’t meta
@@vergilthewolf3619 Utopia is decent I would say kinda close to Synchrons level but unlike it it doesn't have ways to play through handtraps and getting ashed on your search ends your turn They need a few more extenders to be able to play through stuff then they are good
That takes me back to when I actually played locals the difference being no one ever encouraged me. I had to keep my spirit going on willpower, cuz despite being a casual locals I got destroyed a lot. Me as a kid with my Machina/Geargia Deck. Me 10 years later still having Machina. Not that I mind I don't do locals anymore that locals was kinda toxic so I just pay with friends when I can.

Wonna know the funniest thing, most of these aren't girl exclusives, boy yugioh players also deal with most of this crap ESPECIALLY new players, so if anything, yugioh is an environment that does in fact support equality, because it's equally shit for everyone.
This is coming from a guys perspective and i honestly feel like women can't do anything socially without a creep harassing them, i know guys get the same thing but its uncomfortably more common and i know because I've heard a lot of stories from my friends about their experiences. To write it of as just "it's bad for everyone equally" is a naive way of thinking, especially when they want to get away from the realities of the world but can't even have that because of how creepy guys can get.

@rust4259 I think something more people need to realise is that pointing out that one group suffers some or all of the same problems should not invalidate or downplay the problems of other groups. It's not about bad things happening to one group. Bad things are happening, we have the option to either step in and stop them or allow them to happen. Taking the option to do right is what matters.
What's funny is that I met this weird girl at a regional, I think she mis read my kindness for me hitting on her, but she kept comimg up to me and stuff, I was like cool good luck have fun on your matches. She was like the only girl player I think I saw at the LA Regionals. Not trying to assume anything but she literally had the bo of a YGO player. Not saying I had any intentions with her romantically or physically she seemed like she was alone, thought she could use someone to talk too cause I wasn't doing anything between my matches. Edit: I need to preference by saying this I was trying to make her feel welcome and stuff but she came up randomly to me when I was talking with a homie. TCGPLAYER is a good site that has Sellers from everywhere across the world. I don't go to locals or any irl duels but I've still built the decks I enjoy because I just had to have them.
So i'm not openly out about being trans irl cause of where i live. One guy i knew at a locals messaged my personal facebook page under my preferred name not realizing he knew me irl just randomly messaging me cause of yugioh posts i made and since i didnt lie about my location online. He opened with wanted me to marry him and showed me a ring of his grandmother's saying he wanted to use it as our wedding ring. I told him i didn't want that and that i was very offended. That same day was the locals i knew him from (as he was banned from every other one for cheating/stacking his deck). I got there early as i always do and immediately told the store owner who didn't believe me til i showed him my facebook dms. He then laughed it off saying that of course that player would that as he's known as a very big creep and apparently does that sort of thing alot. I got paired against him r2 and beat him and his crusty sleeved cyber dragon deck w/earth machine. I didn't mention it to him until after the final round of this shitty 3 round pack per win locals. Where i just open face told the whole store including the pokemon/digimon crowd. He tried to play it off saying it wasn't him when it showed his actual self as the pfp on facebook. Then tried to come up with some BS excuses to which i shut down and just left the store after getting my packs.

I'm with Stevie on this one. This video made me lose a lot of faith in the male gender, and humanity as a whole. I'm the minority of men who aren't creeps or rude to women, but we get such a bad rep because the majority of men are creeps and rude.

He dueled Mai and held her to him misinterpreting something she said from years before to mean "If I beat you in a duel, you have to marry me." When he lost, he just decides to kidnap her instead.
All I know is, as a trans woman who doesn't "pass" I'm not going to any kind of locals. Because like it's fairly obvious I'll get called a man and I'm not in the mood for that. The amount of replies to the thread is really disheartening and I’m so disappointed in the player base. I used to be friends with a girl who played Harpies and was really good, she’d top locals at the game shop we used to go to. Was super cool. Think the locals group was also relatively chill too. Not like the tweets though, holy sh1t (Oh yeah, and a side note, I live in Aus and there this good auction group, and one time I managed to get a pretty much full core of Morphtronic cards for $8, and $10 post AUD)

Why are people bringing sexism into Yu-Gi-Oh!? One of the people at my locals is a chick, married, holding down a job, actually put down yugioh for Pokemon and Vanguard in recent years but she was easily the best player at any given tournament. I beat her like, once with Dinos back in 2018 and she sold me a Scrap Chimera for a good £10 cheaper than Ebay....a couple of months before MGED. If i had done a little research and been patient i couldve saved myself £28
