I’m remembering now that Yuri on Ice had some impact for figure skating in the real world. The opening playing for GPF 2017 gala opening and some figure skaters using songs from the anime in the 2018 olympics.

They actually got a real life figure skating choreographer to do all the routines so they can do the animation. Kubo-sensei (the director) is a big figure skating fan so she made sure everything was as realistic as possible. From the atmosphere on the ring, to scoring, to commentators to fans of the sports, all of it. Some characters (well, majority) are inspired by real-life people. When this came out it got really big in the figure skating world, skaters themselves enjoyed it too. I will never forget how much Evgenia Medvedeva (Russian world champion) fangirled over this on twitter and instagram 😂

Shogi is a game lol this is a Shoujo anime. Shoujo anime is aimed at younger women and Josei is aimed at older women. Battle Shounens are like My Hero Academia, Naruto etc... Regular Shounens are just manga aimed at younger males, consisting of a wide range of stories e.g. Nisekoi (romance), Deathnote (thriller), One Piece (Action) etc... Seinen is aimed at adult males consisting of different things e.g. K-ON and Berserk. Dark Seinen is a term used for gritty adult themed Seinen manga e.g. Berserk, Vinland Saga and so on... In the end it doesn't really mean anything, lots of girls seem to watch shounen and lots guys watch shoujo. Seinen and Josei are unlucky as they have less anime adaptations (but recently that seems to have started to change).

i was staring at my screen for like an entire minute when i saw this in my recommendations omfg..... i followed this show when it was still airing and i can tell you that it definitely was one of the few times i was genuinely happy (lmao, no exaggeration here) also, i think this show falls on the sports anime category more since it focuses a lot on figure skating! if you guys do continue with the show though, i'm sure y'all would enjoy it since the characterization in this show is amazing and the creators are avid figure skating fans so they really do know their stuff! anyways, thanks for the reaction! seeing my fav reactors react to my fav show is a pleasant surprise!

If you are up for another Shoujo, that is pretty mainstream one called Fruits Basket. It was big in the 2000, and its getting a reboot (the FMA Brotherhood treatment, full story, no fake endings... beautiful stuff) You guys should check it out

I think you would love it, the music, the ANIMATION( oh boy you haven't even seen the best scenes, and the whole unreliable narrator side of it and a lil twist later on... You would definitely enjoy it. I mean it's only 12 episodes... and,, if you wanna see something similar in real life, check Yuzuru Hanyu's long programs.
