Yvonne - I'm So Young - From The Film "Smashing Time" (Film - 1967)
Brenda (Rita Tushingham) and Yvonne (Lynn Redgrave), two girls from the North of England, arrive at St Pancras railway station in London to seek fame and fortune. The girls watch a Candid Camera-style TV show on a television in a shop window entitled You Can't Help Laughing in which an old lady's house is demolished as a joke. When they walk back to their rooming house, they discover the program has also demolished their home as well. Yvonne, as the only name on the lease, wins a reimbursement cheque for £10,000. She decides to invest the prize money in becoming a pop star. Although the live recording of her single, "I'm So Young", is patently awful, it becomes highly polished after mixing, and Yvonne's out-of-tune voice is put in tune. It becomes a big hit and Yvonne becomes a star appearing on other programmes like Hi-Fi Court (a parody of Juke Box Jury).LOOK out for the british psychedelic band Tomorrow in this clip AKA The Snarks. You get a glimse of John "Twink" Alder in this clip, the drummer in Tomorrow. You can see Twink in the thumbnail with Lynn Redgrave.

great little film sending up the pop world with everything and the kitchen sink thrown into the recording of her record! ....i used to phone twink quite lot at one time and he signed my cassette copy of '1000 words in a cardborad box' that he was then selling mail order...i was in carnaby street almost every saturday with my best mate '67-'68 would get our hair blowed dryed and wear our best 'groovy' clothes with our 'made to measure' (while you waited skin tight flared trousers!!!!) at carnaby cavern...then a coffee or two and record buying what an exciting time to be 18! constant film crews up and down the street as you could then drive through the street...so much happening...was at gigs 6-7 nights a week plus rehearsing with our basildon based psychedelic band 'mynd protection' (even had an audition with decca records!)...oh what days...

wow! I’m not sure where to start with your comment here…… amazing! Twink and that . But what i really want to know is do you have any recordings of your band? The name alone is Far-Out. Mynd Projection! To get an audition with Decca in the 60’s is pretty cool stuff

@@67psych we did tape ourselves quite a bit on a reel to reel tape player but the lead singer gave the player to a cousin along with the tapes many years back! i'd now like to hear those recordings! decca hated us and i can still quote the A&R bloke when he told us 'wow far-out but not for us!!!!' that made me leave the band and start a power trio called 'violence breeds contempt' with 'mynd protection' gaining a new bassist and a name change to the 'electric bath'...my power trio then got two more drummers for a three drummer line up and what a racket we made!!!!this would be '69...when all that finished myself and the singer for 'mynd protection' set ourselves up us a mobile disco called 'the heavy mob' and playing all the local rock gigs and some underground clubs & events in southend-on-sea working alongside 'T2/alan bown/egg/barclay james harvest etc etc...a long story and 1977 saw myself co-managing a southend punk band 'machines' we payed and produced their e.p. on our own label 'wax records' check out the original record on youtube! i was also running a punk club and fanzine in basildon at the same time...i carried on d.j'ing for the next forty years and running a psychedelic club in london's leicester square in '84 called 'the taste experience'...i better call it quits here i think....dave.

Strange watching these '60s videos now.... anyone who was about 30 then is probably not even around any more.
