What is UP RU-vid! Welcome to Fred's Full Throttle!
This week I want to talk about a subject that's been on my mind for a while, and that's what I'm calling Z06 Fatigue. Over the past few months I've seen increasing signs of this in the forums, in the comments, and on other RU-vidrs videos. It's a fairly nuanced topic which I want to take some time to explore.

Fred... I think you hit the nail on the head. It also sounds like you were addressing this to GM and their executive teams. I do hope there are at least one or two that took the time to view this message and that it is not perceived to be too insulting. I think you had some solid points all while acknowledging your understanding of GM's risks in disclosing details and gag orders (so to speak). I agree, transparency is a better policy. I too hit burnout long ago but damn, I still want a Z06 really bad :)

Hi Clark-n-Anita Kalens! Always nice to hear from you. I've heard people at GM have seen some of my videos, and my exposure on MECF has probably increased that likelihood over time. Hopefully, GM if they saw this video listen to what I had to say, and can see that I meant none of it as an insult. Quite the contrary, it hurts me that this is the situation we're in, and I WANT the situation to be better. My hope with this video was to suggest some ideas and hopefully improve the situation. Part of this stems from my approach of honesty and transparency for my own channel, not giving in to clickbatey titles and misleading headlines. This is something they can definitely improve (there's still time), the ball is in their court. Anyway, thanks for reaching out, and great to hear from you! Have a nice evening! -Fred

Fred, A few weeks ago I was at Universal Studios in Orlando. Riding the VelociCoaster is like the my experience from the time I put down my deposit at MM Sep 2020...just like the coaster it has been twists, turns, upside down, around in a circle. Admittedly my excitement has wained. I think GM is caught between the proverbial rock and a hard place, global shortages has had an impact and there is no definitive answer to availability. A year ago I was very excited, anxious to get mine ASAP. Now, if I am able to buy one, I probably will, if that does not work out, life goes on. Sully

Completely agree. Their timing versus the craziness in the world the last 2-3 years has certainly made things very challenging. I'm increasingly leaning the same way. If my number gets called, I'll likely get the car, but at the end of the day, as long as I have something fun to drive, I'm not going to sweat it either way. Your last line there is applicable here, and for life in general. :) Have a nice weekend Sully! -Fred

Fred, I believe you've nailed it in regards to a lack of communications. And although I may suffer from "Z06 Fatigue," my enthusiasm hasn't suffered in the process. Having sold my 2015 Z06 over a year ago in anticipation of this new C8 Z06/Z07, I've been without a Corvette for over a year. That really hurts! But perhaps a better word for what we're feeling is anxiety, or at least in my particular case. Keeping in mind we all react to anxiety in different ways while it remains an emotion, things can get somewhat dicey if not kept in check.. And any emotion if not kept in check can often have negative results. While I continue to suffer through this long waiting game counting the days, weeks and months, I refuse to give up the faith that all good things come to those willing to wait. Granted some longer than others, which I know doesn't help.... Particularly for those late to the party if you know what I mean. I was kinda puzzled by the topic you presented in this latest video insofar as there's recently been some major news breaks coming out of Bowling Green. There's been progress made on the ramp up in production and they are going to be opening up more allocations this month (November) rather than waiting until this next January-February. They've also begun making deliveries of these newest Z06 & Z07's while opening up even more options available in the process. So, things are looking up, but I agree, they might want to work on their communications skills in the future....

@FredsFullThrottle Год назад
Hi Tom, Nice to hear from you! I'll respond in reverse order. This weeks' video (today) covers the points you just mentioned, perhaps I was a little late to cover it, but I wanted to get this video out first. As to the fatigue/anxiety, I'm no stranger to anxiety. While not clinically diagnosed or anything, I have a very stressful job with a lot of responsibility. I work in a field that has huge ups, and gigantic downs. The current tech market is a good indication of things that weigh on me constantly. But, I've worked through much/most of that, and have a much healthier/balanced perspective than I have in the past. I'm more confident, and have less "imposter syndrome" than I used to, largely as I've slowly realized I am a smart, skilled, experienced engineer. The Z06 stuff I can fortunately assure you is only fatigue, not one ounce of anxiety for me. In (my) grand scheme, the car doesn't matter. If MM called me up and cancelled my reservation for some reason, I'd be bummed sure, and probably have a few questions, but I wouldn't be mad or freaking out. In fact, in some ways it might make life a bit easier. I want to build a garage for my cars, and I also would love to buy a 992 GT3 (new or used), and not having a Z06 in my future would just mean a pivot. I say fatigue, because there's been such a rollercoaster of ups and downs, and it's harder to keep smiling when the punches keep coming. But, thankfully I'm an optimist, and I'm truly not "that" worried about the car. I have a great car, I have my health and my family, and a roof over our heads. I have a great little beagle who adores me and Rachel. Life is good, and I haven't let any of the drama around the Z06 cut into that, because to me, at the end of the day, it's just a car. Plus, having my GS, if I never buy another car, I still have one I love and can scratch that itch. I'd still give thumbs up to every Z06 I see, but wouldn't be too broken up over it. Hopefully that makes sense! Have a great weekend! -Fred

Hey Fred, Another great Vid! Spot on about the fatigue. I think a lot of us are feeling it and the way information on the car drips out has been torture. I don’t want my experience to be ruined by the delays and misinformation that’s out there. I’m fortunate to have the GS and it would be a shame to not enjoy what I have because of the overshadow of the Z06. Keep me included on an upcoming driving tour, particularly if you’re planning something in the CT/MA area!

Awww...Yeah... It's Fredday Again...ha ha ha! Fred, I 100% agree with you and your thoughts about how GM mishandled the release of the Z06. It is a shame that customer service or support doesn't seem to be a factor in GMs business plan. A definite change across the board is needed. For example, take all the dealerships doing all these shady deals, markups, donate to charity schemes, etc. We all know is a terrible way to do business, but some people will agree to pay, so the market exists to continue with the shady practices. Harlan Charles himself said, unfortunately their not in the wrong, because of these old original contract agreements. There in lie's the problem GM. It's time to wipe the slate clean and start fresh! Get back to business with the customers in mind and fix all these dealership issues! Enjoy your weekend -Shane

Shane my man! How are you man? I couldn't agree more or have phrased it better myself. Love or hate Tesla (I'm somewhere in between), I appreciate their approach of trying something different with regards to dealers (and in their case not using them). I'm not saying that there's no place for dealers, there are a lot of great dealerships out there. But, the whole system needs to be reworked. Where many of the laws surrounding dealerships haven't been updated, revised or revisited in 50+ years, it's time for a complete overhaul. Hmm, maybe you just gave me an idea for a new video....adding that one to my notes. I gotta go make some food, but have a great evening! Fred, Enjoy listening to your take on the Z-06. Yes, fatigue has definitely set in!! I too am on the list with MacMulkin Chevrolet. Was told right from the beginning from them that I'm likely to see a second year Z-06 as I'm currently at 537. GM has had all kinds of issues with the release of the C-8, so I've personally just have to realize that good things don't happen right away, especially with all things going on in the world today. We live in a different world than just a couple years ago, so just have to realize there are issues way beyond anything that I can control!! No one knows (except GM) what the production numbers on this car will be, so I will just patiently wait until I get the call hopefully by this time next year to order my car!! Keep the info coming, wished I could cruise with you all!! Save the Wave!!👍🏻

Fred - Great video as usual and you nailed it on Z06 Fatigue. The Z06 may be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but personally, I am over it. Delays, delays, delays, combined with a huge price increase over what was expected, and the dealers in a feeding frenzy over how much they can gouge customers over MSRP - I am done. I will keep my 19 GS. I am on a list for an 'E-Ray,' but I am afraid GM will do the same thing as they have with the Z06 and I will end up keeping my GS. What a shame for the loyal Corvette community. Good luck with your eventual Z06 decision.

Thanks Art for the kind words! I figured it was time to say something. Even though I'm still excited for the car, the turmoil just to get the car has significantly dampened my overall excitement for it. Something like this should be a good overall experience, and it's been the opposite of that. I'm definitely leaning towards keeping my C7 GS (manual), and then figuring out if I can get the Z, rather than willingly giving it up. Congrats on keeping your GS, they're fantastic cars. Hi Fred. What a surprise it was to find myself on the callout whiteboard - I guess that’s what it’s like when my kids get picked for student of the month. It’s a cool idea that engages you more with your subscribers and helps to gel your base. As far as the content of this video, once again you nailed it. I appreciate your well thought out and supported arguments. I’m still more enthusiastic than not, though truthfully, like you, I have experienced some amount of fatigue. I actually quit following news myself earlier this year and it was sort of liberating. Of course I gradually got pulled back and am now back to doing a brief daily scan of the news to see if anything has changed. It’s once again sort of tiring, but perhaps I put up with it because I’m in the very very low 200s at Ciocca, so I’m optimistic that I might get one before the end of next year (still feels like eons). All that said, I’m not blindly drinking the Z06 kool-aid. I do have a few alternative cars on my radar and if something enticing (pricing/desirability) pops up, I might be swayed. That said, it’s still hard to beat the value proposition offered by the Z06. I was close to reserving the Emira (didn’t because the Z06 flat plane trumped the manual from Emira) and have looked at manual R8 V10s, and used GT3 (still eye-wateringly expensive by comparison). I’m a mess. Ok my rambling is over. Thanks Fred, and keep up the good work.

Hi Jesse, My pleasure! I enjoyed our little comment exchange about your SS 1LE earlier last week, and I've always tried to call out or highlight those that I've interacted with, shared ideas with me, or just plain wanted to say hi to. :) My hope has been that it would be engaging and a nice little "E-High Five" to those that stood out to me. Glad you noticed and liked it! :) I hear ya on the fatigue, and for me it's been a similar ebb and flow of some weeks being more invested, other weeks not even bothering to look. Overall (same as you), I'm more excited than not about the car, but with each development, the way GM handles it has impact on my enthusiasm. I would certainly be more excited if I had a lower number, but right now being in the 1100's feels near enough to "not gonna happen", without much confirmation that it actually ever will. Your alternatives are all awesome options, and same as you, I'm looking over the fence to see what else is out there. A GT3 (used of course) is really high on my list, as is an aspirational car like a 992 Turbo S. With the dive that used Porsche prices are starting to take, I'm hopeful that in the next 3 years with the amount I have saved up, I might be able to actually consider one. I agree the Z is an unmatched (in my opinion) value proposition of performance per dollar, but in the same sentence I'll also say that whatever I buy next will be more about feel and experience/fun, than about outright numbers, and I don't honestly care if a car is "faster", I care about how it makes me feel. That's a big part of the building reluctance to sell the C7. Nice to hear from you man! Have a nice rest of your weekend! -Fred

I, too, clearly am fatigued with the Z06 and all the talk. While I'm not looking to assess blame, it feels like a constant teaser. The price is what it is, and while it's a lot of money, that, at the moment is somewhat definitive. The other thing is that cars are changing every day, and similar to computers, something you buy today will be old news and obsolete tomorrow. I'm concerned that, by the time this one comes, there will be something newer, better, and faster...out there. I think GM is years ahead of the competition on this one, but the longer they take to get it out there, the more of that lead they lose. (all that presumes that this is not the last gas-engined performance model to leave the factory.) Great job, as always!

"there will be something newer, better, and faster". Absolutely. For those who are OK with electric, it is a new era. For those who love ICE and particularly the naturally aspirated, this may well be the last stage out of town. Even the ICE is soon to be gone.

Good points all around John. A really hard thing (for me at least) is to separate how much of my enjoyment comes from a car, and how much comes from it being the "newest, fastest, best...etc". Maybe the bottom-line is "communication skills". Positives may be occurring that are not getting to the majority who are not digging for them. The Pandemic and the continuing delay of parts by suppliers is new phenomenon that GM is not well prepared for and maybe not handling well. I'm sure that GM realizes that creating hype, through excellent promotion, must be followed up as soon as possible by providing that product while the "iron is hot". Maybe unforeseen was the monumental interest in the Z06, resulting in long deposit wait lists, would test the patience and interest level of even the most dedicated who placed those deposits long before the promotion program began. Seems that the increased base price did not significantly take people off waiting lists, but time, the economy, stock market and interest rates may do that.
@FredsFullThrottle
@FredsFullThrottle Год назад
I'm not sure that the monumental interest was unforeseen, as people were getting on lists years before the car was even announced/confirmed. I do think they were caught offguard/unprepared by all the other factors like covid, supply chain, and the like. But, none of those things preclude them from a more open/transparent conversation with perspective customers. That's the part where I lose the plot, because they have a choice in what information they share, how often, and with whom. Here's hoping they improve that communication. Have a nice day Terry! -Fred

I am still pondering if the ZO6 is a vehicle I want or need? Given my current age, soon to be 67 and health concerns, I wonder. I still wish to have more information, especially as to the LT6 reliability! Of course the price of a six figure automobile should give anyone pause to consider such a purchase. However, there is so much demand for the ZO6, it’s almost a certainty there will be no problem finding a person to buy the car from you if you had to sell it. It is depressing when the finish line keeps being moved. I’m still on the MM list and have moved about 50 spots, but still over 1600, I am highly unlikely to receive an allocation for years. As to your situation Fred, that Porsche could be an alternative. I have a friend that is first on a list at a South Central PA dealership that has the hope of receiving an allocation, but he also advised me he has a 2 year wait on getting a 911 Turbo S. He currently has quite a stable now. 911, 2009 ZR1, 2020 C8, 1969 Yenko Clone and an SUV. He has pretty good connections, so if the dealership gets an allocation, he may in fact get a ZO6. I’m curious about the Eray, unless I’m not looking in the right places, not too much information has been coming out lately. It’s too bad GM doesn’t offer optional engines for the Stingray. Let’s put the LS9 or LT5 out there or Supercharge the LT2. Glad to see you’re looking good after your vacation. My wife is off to Aruba tomorrow. I backed out about a month ago, not wanting to be a drag on our friends due to my health concerns. Didn’t want to have a problem and have to depend on care outside the USA either! I told her take her friend with her and the couple that have the condo were ok with that. I hope to get a few more cruises in the C8 before it goes into Hibernation. I sure wish you could find a way to keep your C7 since you love that car. Perhaps you can save up a lot before your allocation comes through. I’d need to look at the configurator again, but I think I got a fairly bare bones ZO6 for around $128,000 but there will undoubtedly be price increases from year to year. The C8 is certainly enough car for just about anyone and has adequate power too! I sure am jumping around from thought to thought lol. That ride looks great, but I don’t think I could endure that much time anymore. Take care buddy!!! Doug

Doug! Great to hear from you man! I agree point by point with your comments. The thing in the back of my mind is that worst case, if I get it and don't like it (or rather just don't love it), that I'm sure it'll sell for what I pay, maybe even a bit more. Those Porsche's are looming large in the rear view mirror. I know my roughly 3 years is a long ways away from *having* to make a choice, but I think I'm pretty set on keeping the C7. If I had the auto, I wouldn't think too much about it, but the manual is such a peach! To your point though, even Porsche has long lines, and the money is way steeper. I think I'd have to go used realistically, but I'm ok with that. As long as a Porsche has a verified service history, I wouldn't worry, they hold up well. Sorry you aren't going on the trip to Aruba, but I think that's a reasonable choice given healthcare abroad. Enjoy your last few rides of the season, my car is already away (we've had frost by my house and snow up North already!). If you go somewhere scenic, take a pic for me! They were told an Orthopod was going to cost $20,000. They got a flight out ASAP and returned to the NJ area. My son then arranged to get her some express services at the Hospital where he works.

Yeah I'm done! Would love to have the car but I'm moving on to a 911!

Hi Sterling 161, I hear ya. Tell me more though? Porsche is looming in my rear view mirror, and if I don't get a Z06, I'd be VERY likely to go for something with the shield on it. What are you looking to get (or are going to get if you're further along)? I'm a big Porsche fan. :) Have a nice evening! -Fred

@@FredsFullThrottle I’m so frustrated with the Z06. One day I’m going to get a Stingray & just wait on the Z06 or E-ray. The next day I’m looking to go Porsche Targa S. When I finally figure it out whatever I get will be my last new car. I’m 61 want this next car to be something special

It hurts waiting so long. I'm #6 at a small dealer. At this point, I hope I get a 2024 and not have to wait until 2025. I'm scared that it might never happen. How long will GM keep making high performance gas only powered vehicles?? Dodge has said 2023 is the last year of the Hellcat variants other than the TRX that they said they'll carry into 2024. Ford seems to be hinting the Dark Horse Mustang might be the final hurrah. I even purchased a different vehicle because I couldn't stand the wait. Idk, maybe there's a bright side. Maybe more colors will be available. or more options. Perhaps quality control will improve and get any bugs worked out. I have an agreement for msrp but I'm pretty sure msrp as well as option pricing will increase in 2024 and more in 2025.

I'm with ya. These kind of extended timelines make other things come into play like the length of the total production run, allocations to smaller dealers, and just trends of the overall industry. I think you're right that there will be pricing bumps for each MY, as we saw with the Stingray, here's hoping it's not too much, the car is already pretty expensive without options. Have a nice evening Hellcat 5000 and thanks for reaching out! -Fred

More like burn out! MSRP is too high and dealer mark up is out of control.

Haha I was trying to be polite, but honestly a lot of us are feeling the burn out. You make good points. Have a nice day Kia Tia09! -Fred

Thank God I have a C7 Grand Sport / 66 Sting Ray to play with. I find the same thing. A Communication breakdown, and this is GM with people making big bucks. Somewhat unprofessional. I'm 75 years old and waiting for a Z06.

Right there with you John, very glad I still have my C7 GS. That 66 Stingray sounds pretty awesome! What color? -Fred

Hi Travis! Nice to hear from you. I'm not quite sure I follow on your question. I *think* what you mean (and please correct me if I'm wrong), is along the lines of: "What if we want the Z06, but aren't sure there'll be another gas generation of the car in the future?". Totally agree, that's part of the challenge. People are fatigued or burned out, but they also don't have a choice but to be on a list if they want the car. And if you're on the list, you're naturally going to want as much news as you can get, which leads to burnout...etc... Let me know if I missed your question, Have a nice day! -Fred
