In this video Im working on a 2014 Z930 that is having issues with the right side hydraulic transmisson. We call them hydros for short. I show how to remove the transmissions and open them up.
To find tools, shop equipment, mower parts and more, you can find them at my store. Click this link: www.amazon.com/shop/mechanicalmind I'll get a commission on the sale at no extra cost to you. It's a great way to help the channel and get the items you need.
Thank you!! Was trying to just seal the pan, and it wouldn't come out thankfuly i just watched this. Bad idea to have all the gears come falling out. Thank you!! ❤
You mentioned removing the top pully without dropping the hydro, is that possible? I have a 930 with only 500 hrs and both hydros are leaking from the fan /pully and the top cap. Hoping to have a way to do the seal replacement without dropping the motors... ty
Customer could have saved a lot of money if they didn't ignore that amount of oil leakage and muck accumulated.. Ignorance and neglect is expensive⚠️ Good presentation 👍
You talked about the pulley on top of the transmission coming loose on these machines. What do you do to repair that? Replace the pulley? Torque the existing one back down?
If it's got the old plastic plugs on top they crack and leak under the pulley tuff torq undated the part to metal I had to redo both of mine 14 model after chewing john deere out on a commercial mower with 400 hours
And what stinks is I just got 2 filter and seal kits from TuffTorq for my 2012, Z920A with 1,400 hrs. and they don't include that plug. Looks to have all the seals for the different shafts including the axle shaft seal. I called to confirm I have the correct kit and the guy says I do. There is also a seal called a sleeve that fits between the axle seal and seals against the axle shaft that is not included either. The kit cost plenty and should be complete.
That would be useful info wouldn't it 😆. I need to add that info to the title. Its a 2014 Z930M with 2,455 hours. Belongs to a cemetery company and they do not take the best care of their units.
i have a z930a 2018 where the left hydro has a hole in the case. so i bought a new hydro for the dealer to install. he says that since he sees metal in the fluid that i must replace both hydros? do you agree with that diagnosis? it seems to me that the filter should be protecting the right hydro. what is your recommendation?
Its possible the other hydro could be damaged. Without seeing it Id hate to say yes or no. Id want to remove the other hydro and open it up to inspect for metal contamination or damage before spending the money to replace the other hydro. If you caught it early a good cleaning out could save it. Its still going to require a good anount of labor hours to do to. Id say about 6 hours of labor to remove and split open the other hydro and if no damage is found and good clean out and reinstall.
@@Mechanical_Mind thanks - i was thinking an inspection is worth the money, especially with the magnets that could be catching any micro debris that is getting past the filter. great video
These should all come with serviceable units , it looks like robbery by the dealers otherwise with exclusive repairs and trips to the repair shops , don’t they know this frustrates the owner to no end , it’s clearly for profit ,
Awesome video! I have to pull the left hydro off my 915 b the top seal leaks after it runs and cools down. Only 240 hours on a 7 year old mower… At least I think it’s the top seal. It only leaks after I shut the mower down. Any thoughts on if that’s the top seal under the cooling fan?
Hi Ted, the seal under the cooling fan & pulley do leak often. Sometimes its from strings or something getting wrapped up around under the pulley and causes damage to the seal. They also will leak due to dry rott cracking. There is also a rubber plug under that same pulley that will leak from dry rott cracks. Under that plug is one of 3 magnets that collect metal in the oil. Id recommed replacing both the seal and the plug if you remove the hydro.
@@Mechanical_Mind will do. I purchased the filters from JD. Do you happen to know the part numbers for both upper seals? Mainly the redesigned seal? I appreciate your response and you gained a subscriber!
