Zakk Wylde playing in Adrian MI Summer 1991. Yes, it was 1991 and he was with Ozzy. Video by Zakk's biggest fan - Steve Woerner. Steve and his DOOM CREW INK! #BERZERKER of the day! #SDMF #GIFD photo/?fbid=...
1. Tush, ZZ Top 2. Voodoo Child, Hendrix 3. Midnight Rider, ABB 4. One Way Out, ABB 5. Melissa, ABB 6. War Pigs, Sabbath 7. Jesus Just Left Chicago, ZZ Top 8. I Don’t Know, Ozzy What a fucking set list.
Right!?! I think because we have easier access to our “hero’s” now. I can watch them make breakfast on Instagram. All the access takes away the mystique. Back in my day they seemed untouchable.
You boomers and X- ers are not paying attention. I went to go see Måneskin the other day. Sold out at Madison Square Garden. Guitar solos galore, a mini acoustic set on a B stage in the middle of their set, and about 12,000 16 to 21 year old kids. For once I wasn't the youngest guy at a show for once I was the old man.
I thought he does show the southern root thing? Book of shadows 2, and Grimmest hits are certainly less heavy than earlier releases, full of ABB and Skynard influences. I like it all, head pounding metal and introspective mournful ballads. I think when someone or something becomes as big and great as Zakk, they act as a lightning rod for some. I have heard people bitch that he looks too much like a Viking, really? Holy shit. Dude is a monster on guitar and people are mad at him for it. I dont mean to imply that that's what I thought you were saying in your post, you just got me thinking about the "cant please everyone" thing. I had never seen this video, I love it!
Another Pride & Glory album and less BLS gear would be choice. Im not knocking it at all, just seen the guy recently and his precense was immense. I'd love to see the old and current Zakk kind of merge
@plisskenation - thrash albums that's the irony. Does southern rock better than alot of guys from the south NJ back then was more rural and woods I'd imagine. Like upstate NY
All I can say is New Jersey bred some of the best musicians the world has ever seen! Zakk is no exception. He is a phenomenal player and has a heart bigger than youtube!
He even puts his heart and soul into the Ivory's. Last Goodbye , Scars , Spoke in the Wheel. He is one of the Greatest guitar players that most people have never heard of .. True Rock Royalty
Zakk would have been 24 that summer. I was 25. Been playing in front of folks since I was 6 and never had that kind of lightning in the hands. Long past those days of even trying but Zakk can still do it. Kudos Brother
One of this man’s most overlooked talents is the chicken pickin. It’s really interesting that he adopted this style as a part of his rock playing. I’ve seen some killer country pickers and Zakk could probably hold his own in that circle.
Funny, but true story. Was in a hard rock band during the late '80s, which the other guitarist (only into one style of music) was berating Zakk over using Pinch Harmonics. After the band broke up, he stopped pursuing his dream. Meanwhile Zakk has continued his musical profession on his musical terms in full on success many dream to achieve in this brutal profession. Some may not also realize he can play some badass musical passages on the piano as well. Cheers.
That’s probably the last time he had to unplug his pedals. Yes Jersey has great musicians including myself! By the looks of it the bass and sounded especially the drums, were put together that week. Zack’s guitar definitely out front but he is the show! Cheers 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
He's always been a nice guy to people who come up to him and tell him they like his music etc. Even when he was young and on top of the world he was a nice guy.
Daaaaaammmnn!!!! Not that he hasn’t remained a legend (styles change, people change, the world changes, etc.), but I want to see this Zakk!!!! Love this!!!! ❤️ ❤❤
despite playing guitar for 20 years i still $hit my pants everytime i listen to Zakk. For some reason, guitar snobs don't consider him 'worthy' of guitar god status. How ridiculous. He rips that guitar to shreds every time he touches it.
you know what it is? they know they may play maybe a little more technical stuff than zakk, but none of them have the balls in their playing like he does. hes just swingin them round like a mutherfucker. every time. all the time.
It's probably cause it's a lot of bends an squeals an noodling. I would question my own playing too if I listened to it but I generally make it an don't review it. An one thing is ; ozzy has never been thrash since Rhodes left. Ozzy fell off before he joined but there are certain bands who changed way too much with new members to be the same band.
Wow Zakk is incredible I love his sound ! I've seen him with Ozzy and black label society and solo ! This is a real treat ! Thank you for sharing this wow !!!
Thousands Thank'S for share, man!!! Rare shot, never saw this before. IMHO the best Zakk period, just left off from Ozzy, before recording iconic Pride&Glory masterpiece. His way of searching his own style. RAW ROOTS!!!!
One more notice: he was played onto Peavey amp, not Marshall, and sounds not like Peavey, but like Himself. One more proof that's most of sound comes from hands and balls, but not from the gear.
Just an absolute guitar legend and showman. I do not know of any other musician that just wanted to the best and put on a great show. And funny as hell. Legend status achieved.
Lol. Yeah or back then it was prolly 90210. The Cosby Show wasn’t still on I’m guessing. I don’t remember when it went off the air. Zakk is such a badass. Always has been. Influenced me then my youngest son. Loves Zakk. I’m a proud Pops
I woke up to this vid today . Didn’t even have my morning Coffee yet and the Sun is barely up . Great way to start the day ! This was pure awesomeness 🤠 And I just subscribed. Thus brings back memories.
Born to play guitar and was fortunate enough to discover that early enough to capitalize on it. Some people just have the nervous system that allows them to excel rapidly at playing the scales used in most rock music. I have seen people that were committed to learning to play guitar from a relative early age and put in the time to consistently practice and after not being where they thought they should be after a couple or 3 years start trying different techniques to improve dexterity but seem to plateau and then I have seen others that pick up a guitar in their late teens and in almost no time have reached a level that the kid that started at 12 and has played and practiced religiously has not come close to by their late teens. There is nothing more discouraging than for a person that has put in the time to see someone pick up what they have worked so hard to achieve and make them look like an amateur after only playing a year or two but that is the way it goes. People that pick it up really fast are pretty rare and anyone can become pretty good if they work hard enough and they might bring more creativity to playing than the guy that has the flashy chops.
Agreed. I just can’t believe it was 1991. That is saying this is after he joined Ozzie in 87’ and recorded No Rest for the Wicked in 88’ and then toured 88-89 with Ozzy. Then he went and did this, No way. I could be wrong but this Hass to be before 88 when he joined Ozzy
He did. It was a one of concert at the Nokia center in Los Angeles in early 2013. There is a DVD marketed as unblackened. It was truly epic. I was there.
I remember that day there was a battle of the bands for the local kids and a lot of us was our first show playing guitar is was quite the event for our small town good times 🎸
Videos like this is why I love RU-vid. Lol at 1991 Adrian Michigan looking all 1987 with big hair and mullets. Props to Zakk, he is Johnny Winters tougher cousin. Thanks for posting.
@@Genuinerobbie actually he mentions that Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield were scheduled to fight on Nov 8th and they were originally scheduled to fight Nov 8 1991 so this in fact 1991.
I saw that tour as well! Outdoor show that was incredible. 1994 was a great time at Ozark Mountain Amplitheater at Lampe, Missouri by Branson. I'll never forget it and think about it often. Alice in Chains opened the show. Times were good!
I like Zakk Wylde but truthfully I prefer Frank Marino I saw Frank Marino and 1988 and he was absolutely brilliant it was at the Ritz in Detroit which is fairly small . He started off with the answer just like the live album in 78 or whenever it was he was awesome. .... I kind of prefer most the original awesome classic guitar players there were a few that came through in the 80s like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Randy Rhoads ... Yngwie Malmsteen ..and then later on Dimebag Darryl ... A guy named Audley Freed for Cry Of Love was pretty awesome ..... I'm kind of stuck in the original players of hard rock like Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck and Ritchie Blackmore and people like Steve Howe and Brian May and David Gilmour and Frank Marino .. I love Eddie Van Halen he might make my top 10 list at the bottom even though technically he might have been a quicker guitar players on some of them most of my favorite guitar players have a certain amount of Blues. I've seen most of my favorite guitar players from Jimmy Page to Jeff Beck to Ritchie Blackmore to Frank Marino ..Steve Howe.. Stevie Ray Vaughan.. Johnny Winter ..Rory Gallagher.. Brian May..... Alvin Lee.. Robin Trower... David Gilmour.. Pete Townsend ..Tony Iommi . Keith Richards .. Steve Marriott.. Phil lynott Gary Moore and Scott Gorham.. Buck Dharma.. Ted nugent... Alex lifeson ...Pat Travers... Rickey medlocke . Billy Gibbons.. Dickey Betts and Dan Toler.. Carlos Santana .. Eddie Van Halen .. Vivian Campbell... Jake E Lee.. Stevie Ray Vaughan.... Michael Schenker... George Lynch.... Yngwie Malmsteen... Stanley Jordan... BB King... Paul McCartney ... I've seen a lot of the great bands that had two guitar players like Lynyrd Skynyrd had three, I saw them in 1976 with Steve Gaines Allen Collins and Gary rossington , then I saw Outlaws, Aerosmith, Foghat, April Wine, Kansas, Humble Pie , AC-DC. .. Rolling Stones... Molly Hatchet... 38 Special.. Point Blank... Iron Maiden.. Styx.. Night Ranger ... Whitesnake with Adrian Vandenberg and Vivian Campbell... .. Scorpions... Tesla.. Metallica... Guns N Roses with Slash... Boston ... Steve Vai... Mark Farner .. I have seen a whole lot of great bands it is kind of hard to say who was the boss I didn't even list quite a few on there , Soundgarden , Montrose , Bob Seger,, Travis Meeks was awesome... Chris Cornell is actually an awesome guitar player I seen him 6 times total between Soundgarden Audioslave and uphoria morning tour. Myles Kennedy and Alter Bridge ... Edgar Winter.. Sammy Hagar.. Black Crowes... Tool .. Godsmack... Primus.. Buckethead.. The guess who with Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings.. Velvet Revolver.. Stanley Clarke on Bass... Those are the bands who I've seen plus more .. I've seen some of the best musicians ever for sure.. I've been going to concerts since 1976 and I've been to 133 concerts I haven't been to any this year of 2020
@@jeffbogue3718 Man, you're cocert list is impressive! I've been close to eighty shows in my 55 years and I've seen quite a few of the bands you mention, including Frank Marino of Mahogany Rush way back in 1980 (I think) at the Sportotorium in Hollywood, Fl. $11, General admission! I tried to save all the past ticket stubs, got 'em here in two photo albums, as I stroll down memory lane!🤘
@@dolfan1318 I have been to quite a few concerts in my almost 46 years, but the best memory I have is seeing Zakk Wylde at The Station Night Club in Rhode Island before it burned down. I gave Zakk a Epiphone electric/acoustic guitar and hung out on the bus with the band. He was sitting at the bar drinking with everyone before he went on stage, it was awesome. I have quite a few Zakk stories over the years, I know a cousin of his that lived in RI, so I got to hang out with them often. Met his dad too, God rest his soul
This guy is NO FRANK MARINO! Not even by a long shot!! And his sound isn’t even close to him.All I hear is same wylde style his been playing for years.
Randy. Eddie, Jimi, Gibbons, Blackmore, Vai, Knopfler, Page, Gilmour, May, Holdsworth, Marty Friedman... Not sure where you put Zakk, but he doesnt cut the line on that list. To me greatness is more than technical ability because there are 1,000s of unknowns who can play anything ever written. The greats create and, he is a smokin player but the third best Ozzy guitarist behind Jake E Lee on that level.
If my memory is correct, a guitar manufacturer was doing something and the music/guitar store downtown Adrian just happened to be one of those stores where it happened. I heard about it the day of. Didn't even know who Zakk Wylde was 🤓
They called these “clinics.” I went to one and paid 8 bucks or so, which was an entry for a drawing for a Les Paul, or you could use it as store credit that day. I was at the counter and Zakk came up to sign autographs, so I asked him to pick out a bottleneck slide for me, and he obliged. Cool dude.
The best era of Zakk for sure! Young, on fire, hammered, but still shredding like a god. Great energy and raw vibe from these smalltown shows. I wasnt even born when these shows took place, would love to see one show like this live.
To put in perspective, zakk was just finished no more tears album with ozzy here in summer 91, in September it was released to make him a global star, he was known to ozzy fans but not as a stand alone until after no more tears made him a super star. This is a great time capture, on the cusp of being considered one of the worlds best players by 24 years old, and smash hits from no more tears propelled him to guitar god status
I’m thinking this might be 87 or so. Makes no sense that Ozzy’s guitar player with two albums and one tour under his belt would be playing in a tent at some carnival. Curious
Yeah, he was something back then for sure. I remember just how unique he sounded when we first heard him on the new Ozzy album, no rest for the wicked. Actually, I think I saw the crazy babies video or heard the song on the radio prior to the album's release and even though that song doesn't have a very long solo, you could tell from just how he was playing the riff in the beginning and by his tone that he was bringing something new to the guitar world, which was pretty active in late '88. I saw him a little later, on the end of the tour for that album in the summer of '89 or '90 at the Orange County Fair in Middletown, NY and my mouth must have been hanging open the whole time.
I was there! A buddy of mine (Eric Staib) was playing drums, so I got to sit behind the kit and watch Zak up close doing his thing - great memories from this show!
What great variety of playing and performance he showcases here, great footage. I’ve seen him live with Ozzy and Black label several times, and this year I saw him with Pantera, and he did justice to their music. 🤘🏻
Are we watching and listening to the same thing? It's filled with lots of pinch harmonics and wah pedal usage. But hell give him a pass cause it sounds great and he's letting loose and I'm surprised the bandmates held it all together pretty good.
How awesome it must have been for Zakk to get to play with that bassist: Brick Layer; Fish Filleter, Bill Payer, Dragon Slayer, a virtual musical conveyor, bass player, Mr. Ross Thayer. #respect
This is my favorite performance by him. He usually is just playing so many little noises and harmonics in between everything that it loses my interest. He’s actually playing here. What a treat. Of course you always have your guys like dude in the white shirt that just stands there with his arms crossed at about 1:18. I hate those guys
it took me a minute to realize what kind of les paul that was. god damn was there ever a time when he wasn’t slayin the shit out of a les paul! good lord! the dudes been a beast his whole life.
Story behind the guitar is he got it with the rebel flag on it and then Seen Bret michaels from poison had the same one so he took a grinder to his and nailed beer caps to it.
Sweet axe 💣💥💨 actually a buddy of mine owns this guitar... I am definitely going to ask him the details on it when I run into him next.. he also owns the Kossoff LP.... both are great masterpieces in Art History 🖖
Insanity he’s one of the greatest, I love zakky better in that era 90’s , nowadays he’s too over the top but definitely one of the greatest I saw him alive at Enmore Theatres Sydney back in 2006 I think he’s brutal and awesomest pianist he played heaps of classic ballads with the most beautiful voice man I was so impressed blown my mind 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼🇦🇺
Good thing somebody had a camera or you wouldn't be able to make your comment on your cellphone about how people aren't on their cameras on their cell phones.
@@RusticMillRRage made me better. Stopping playing for a while made me worse. I peaked at probably 40 then the world shut down an I left everything behind. Oh an seeing schit an people in this world for what it is I don't wanna be around pretty much killed my want to do anything but focus on escaping the world. So maybe others have the same issue of humans giving them ptsd an unable to focus on anything but them or be happy again
Check out the bell bottom jeans 😄😅😎 !!! I used to wear bell bottoms when I was way younger 😂, looks like Zak brought em back in style 😅🤪😎 !! Absolutely love it 😎😅 !!!
For those who love his solos one of his best live solos of all time is in the song shot in the dark live in Russia - video can be easily found on you tube. Melodic and just the right amount of punch harmonics
@@Jimboishere11 Correct. Wyldes uniquely skilled at improvising and bringing a deeper life force to pre-existing solos. Composition is different conversation
I have always said that Randy was giving Edward Van Halen a run for his money ❤❤❤. They both were the Hottest Guitarist of the same Era for sure and my inspiration to grind on an axe !!! Then I can't leave out Uncle Ted Nugent...
I would only hope that all the “experts” that crap on Zakk all the time get over here to see this. This is flat out SRV level in terms of a guitarist killing it AND being a frontman.
@@user-tg7kq7mk9mI said hendrix before he even started playing that. I could see why people who listen to metal don't listen to hendrix. Cause I'm one of them. It's not he sucks. It's just hippy music sucks 🤣👍. I would be trying to start a mosh here an grandma Karen's would be running to a payphone to dial 911
@@ShawnJonesHellion Im sure Zakk would have a different answer about hendrix and Im pretty sure he was probably influenced by hendrix I know personally plenty of metal players who listen to hendrix your one of a few that dont.
