19 here, I quite literally have NEVER found someone my age who likes or even has ever listened to Zappa. I quite literally will never get why people don’t love the zapp like it’s the most beautifully composed music maybe ever
I think it’s because you can’t just try a little bit of Frank, and then get back to it later… you have to jump in, stay in, and stay focused on what’s happening!! And in my case start studying his work. One of my older friends always played Zappa, but would turn it off when I got there, because he thought i wouldn’t like it! 50 albums and videos later, i ended up teaching him a lot about Frank!!😁✌🏼🎶Frank it up!!!
Not to disparage Mom's cooking but think of a time when you got to try something completely different (for me King Crab, Chile Relleno and Hibachi cooking come to mind) that you really liked and you enjoyed it so much that you wanted to try everything that you could from that style of food or cooking. There's a lot of folks who just don't enjoy or appreciate something different, unique and wonderful that way. Similarly there are just a lot of folks who just want the same mass produced basic musical hamburger. Since Frank created many varied styles, Doo Wop, Rock, Jazz, Classical, Experimental if you like someone enough to try and "convert" them try exposing them to some FZ that's in a style they appreciate. Also try to learn to recognize boring burger burnouts and just avoid 'em (look up teaching a pig to sing for added clarity). Finally, there are true fans from all ages. nationalities and walks of life out there. They are a bit fewer and farther between but they are there. To boost your moral check out some of the new wave like The College Rhythm Orchestra ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E0Pw7aPElqA.html , The Berklee College of Music www.berklee.edu/berklee-now/berklee-frank-zappa-tribute-wakajawaka-inca-roads-peaches-en-regalia-zomby-woof and the UH Hilo Jazz Orchestra ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CePLRGcMz5Y.html . Then there's the obvious. Dweezil is touring the Apostrophe 50th Anniversary now. Dweezil & Co. are amazing & you're guaranteed a Zappa Freak audience. FZ4EVER !
I am 68 now... living in 🇩🇪, loved Zappa in youth and still today... my legs don't work proper, my wife passed away 😢and the world is going to hell 👹.... it's not easy in future... 🙏🍀🙏 but this sophisticated and unique music gives me hope, let me cry and strengthens me... Love to all Zappa fans... 😍 Thank you Dweezil.... 👏✌️🎵🎶 🎷🥇🏆😊... such a great show from all... 👍👍👍👍👍
life is much like hell. But I enjoy reading Dante and listen to Zappa same time, and perhaps create a painting. Drager meurtant writes about disturbance, in Edge of Humanity, f.i., all good wishes, DM
If you listened to this with your eyes closed, you would swear it was FZ and his Mothers circa 75, yes the music is still living, thank you Dweezil for keeping your dad's works alive and breathing, more than thirty years after his voice went silent....

Dweeze is the best thing Frank created. He is a badass like his Dad and he keeps the music alive. Thank you Dweezle, you are a force of positive greatness.
+John Hamilton You have a point. How to compare Frank's musical contribution with his son's incredible effort to learn and keep on playing Frank's music? I hope that he shows us some gems that were never popular or even known by most fans. Now that, apparently, all of his works will be published after Gail's death. What a gal!
+John Hamilton that's a joke, right? Without the Dweez, the music would still be alive. Don't really see anything badass about him, to be honest. The whole show lacks eyebrows, and Dweez never striked me as a great thinker, satirist or someone with a sharp wit.
John Hamilton: Only partially correct I'm afraid. The best thing Frank created, by a million miles, is The UMRK Archives! Which unfortunately is now in the hands of utter muppets! He should have left it to The Smithsonian! Gail Zappa has a lot to answer for! She blew it big time!
In my opinion Dweezil is doing a great job with playing close to FZ's incredible guitar sound. The rest of the band on the other hand sound like they are just playing sheet music. FZ had some extremely unique and creative people in his bands, Dweezil should do the same and care less about playing all the right notes.
Frank might understand and appreciate Dweezle's admiration for his music. But I would think his advice (if he ever offered it) was " find YOUR voice and put it out there". Nevertheless, it's a good thing that Dweezle is sharing his dad's music with younger people who may not come across it otherwise. Dweezle has the best Zappa cover bands ever.
The audio is phenomenal, stereo imaging is nice and deep. Even through cheap earbuds this sounds exquisite. Frank's music never gets old, it just stands out more and more with time.
This is Frank's afterlife; there's nothing else like this on earth, so THANK YOU. I was lucky to see the band around the time this show was recorded... one of the best nights of my life.
I've just seen them in Perth, Australia. Knew I would enjoy it but didn't know how deeply it would move me...it's been a while since I was in the Zappa universe. Pure Joy....thank you for this Mr. Dave :-)
I for one have no taste, so that is why I am here, because Frank knew that. Tipper Gores have taste, and they also want to dictate to us tasteless folk who enjoy an occasional python boot, or a sears poncho
Dweezle is wonderful and I'm glad he is bringing Frank's music to a wider audience. As someone who got to see Frank perform live several times between 1971 and 1980, I am delighted with what ZPZ is doing here--great musicians! They really BRING IT here.

Having been a lifelong fan of Frank Zappa's music ever since I bought Hot Rats, I love what his son has done and continues to do with this fantastic band. Dweezil's dad would have been proud of him. I must try and see them when they are in the UK next. Martin
These guys have done an amazing job with Franks music, and Dweezle did his dad proud here. Can you tell I'm the biggest Frank Zappa fan on the planet ... lol. I have seen Frank many, many times. Good stuff !!!
I've had the good fortune to see Frank and Dweezil play many times. Frank and his various bands were wonderful back in the day when he was considered eccentric by many pros and fans. Even so his music was timeless and perfect. Dweezil and his various bands play Frank's music, but with a cautionary twist. It's not note for note, and it shouldn't be. His son is interpreting Frank's music with flair and dignity. I've seen ZPZ 12 times all over the world with many different cast members. This is as good as it gets folks. Seeing them, just like Frank in small venues up close and personal is magic. If they ever come to your town..... See them at all costs! Carry on ZPZ!
Seconded ! Saw FZ 4 times at the Montreal Forum Have seen ZPZ 6 times (Montreal 3, Ottawa 2, and Laval 1) All shows blew me away forever ! FZ, DZ, and FZ's music are the best !
Seen Dweez 4 times now in England. And every time he has blown my mind. As his father before him, he doesn't know how much these tunes have affected so many. This is other worldly to many dumb mortals. But for those that know what is involved, it is pure musical bliss. Glad I'm one of those that understand the skills involved.
The Dweez is a great musician, and superb guitarist. He sentenced himself to live in the shadow of his father's giant ouvre in order to do justice to his unique body of work. This takes immense bravery, and an even deeper humility. I bow before this man.
What a great concert. Frank, may he rest in piece, must be proud of his son. I have seen almost all Mothers of Invention concerts in Copenhagen since the late 60's and Dweezil lives up to handling that hard legacy. Sorry I missed his last show a month ago here, but I hope they will come back next year.
GREAT GREAT LINE UP of songs . Basically all of One Size Fits... Last time in San Diego, saw Dweezil play the entire Apostrophe album. At the House of Blues it was a great concert. Many of the same players from this video which was cool. My favorite Sheila she plays keys, then grabs a saxophone and belts it out and then, sings, to boot!
You don't know how much I appreciate this, to have a live, contemporary rendering of Frank's genius. I've been around for awhile, but didn't get into Frank until maybe the last five or six years or so, so I never saw him playing live, except from past recordings, of course. And to see it live, as it's happening with GREAT musicians is just a sight to behold and a gem to put into my box of priceless experiences. I knew of Frank growing up, but I was more of a metal guy, so didn't venture out much, but since 2000, when I say the music died, at least for me, RU-vid has been a blessing. Since I've rediscovered Frank and gone deep into his catalogue of genius, I've binged. It takes me about 3-4 months to go through his 80 recordings (and RU-vid live gems), but when I'm done, I just start over again. Thanks Dweeze and God bless you all. RIP big guy. Love!
+Dave Hamilton Agreed these guys are tight , I've saw 2 versions of The Mothers & then FZ solo nearly a dozen times spanning 30 yrs & other than the antics & banter from guys like flo , Eddie & Frank I prefer the tone Dweezils band uses over the FZ tones, most of the time , as George Duke said I think they play the music better than we did .
I was fortunate enough to see FZ live three times; twice at the Uptown in Chicago '80 & '81 (including the panty quilt tour), and lastly at the Tower in Philly in '88 (on Valentines Day!). It was great every time, especially the last, Frank really played with the audience that evening. All that said, Dweezil is the closest it gets and heir apparent. They do have the benefit of an immense catalog and all the recorded arrangements from which to draw, but to pull it all off so masterfully is the best tribute to FZ I can think of. I think he'd be pleased. Of course the icing on all of this is the improvements in how well it's all captured and presented, even since the 80s. The fidelity of the mix and video are astounding by comparison. It's comforting to know Frank's musical legacy is in good hands.
Edison Girard ah ha ha ha ha the quilt lmfao ,I forgot about that ,idk if they are in the quilt or not but my wife tossed her panties on the stage at every VS concert we attended ,including the last 2 tours ,I've yet to see the quilt in person ,I think I read someplace before there was an internet that Frank never washed any of the panties ,I hope the artist did lol
I got to see Frank once. The "Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life" tour. Yeah, I know. I was one of the few lucky Americans to see that show. Saw Dweezil and Co. on the "Hot Rats" tour. What an extraordinary night. Dweezil is the real deal. I didn't know if anyone would be able to keep Frank's music alive, but the kid's a chip off the old block for sure.
That composition with all the different time signatures was something you just don't hear every day. Quite a tribute to his dad. I'm not into life-after-death, but if so Frank would have a smile for that one. Eseil
Excellent show, well performed. Good to see Dweezil is still doing the Zappa plays Zappa shows. Hope he keeps doing them for years to come. As of 2022, he is now one year older than his Dad when he passed. Scary thing. Frank left us far too soon.
Greg Chick I am too. Lump in the throat, goosebumps, the lot! 🤣🤪I haven’t had the pleasure to see Dweezil yet. Will not miss him next time🤞This band nailed it.
maybe a lot of people found his music "funny and comedic" but i've been listening to zappa since "freak out" and every consecutive album since. and while it was funny on the surface if one uses ones brain and digs in the brilliant musicality and social commentary are spot fuckin on right down to his unbridled use of the word "fuck" on record or onstage, something absolutely unheard of but frank being the musical maverick he was took a proverbial bat to the current social norms of the day, put the heat to the social jiffy pop and shook the fuck out of it for all its worth and broke down and exploded all the preconceived notions of what life was really all about back then and continued to do so until he couldn't anymore ....... and while it's totally admirable to keep his dads music alive "in the family " so to speak , it would be nice to see another zappa pick up and "grab those reins" on the oft mentioned "pygmy pony" and all over the desert of conformity and trample it underfoot with mucho gusto, he is, after all , a zappa...
Wow I have had the privledge of seeing his father 78 times !! I have saw zappa does zappa at the university of Michigan and steve vie and Malmsteen and Joe SatchMo the best show I have ever seen
I saw this in the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver BC Canada Nov 29 2015....the band loved the venue and I have seen Beefhreart, King Crimson and the Clash to name a few...world class hall and was just so fun :))))
yes, Don Van Vliet and band two shows at the Commodore, went to both. Gentle Giant, Zwalinul, Crimson, Dregs , ZZ Top - great place with under 800 people.
I will put up a torrent as I seem to be the only fuckin guy on the internet with this....I got feedback from the Zappas....super fine and now they have my copy.....stayed tuned and smile :)
this is amazing. i did watch listen Dweezil long ago, and honestly it did not feel very much captivating, at the time. at the time of this recording, is has been over 20 years since Frank has gone, and Dweezil, still in his footsteps and I must say, he has grown into the giant character of his father. absolutely stunning. such a boy, following the father footsteps, relentlessly and with such energy and pride. he is such an amazing person. i am truly astonished by his endevour. fantastic to see. the world is just so much better place, with Dweezil out there. thank you so much Dweezil !
Saw the show in Boston opening for Return To Forever IV... Dweezil and the band held their own. It was a great show featuring music from two of my favorite performers...
I've seen Dweezil four times and took his master guitar class. He is such a classy dude and he represents his father so well. Nonetheless we must recognize his personal skill as a guitarist. He is not derivative; he's unique, just like his father. You put Frank on any top xx list and you have to put Dweezil on it too.
I was lucky enough to see THE BAND FROM UTOPIA in Boulder Co. a couple months after Frank died.and that was outstanding!!.Man, this, is just as good as Tommy, Ike, Chad, Ray and the Fowler bros. were i.m.o. Outstanding, I wish I was there!!!
You said the real thing, man! Dweezil is the leader, the son/sun/man in the center of the system! But what a great band with all them talented musicians! All "musical talented planets"!
Here's your baseline if you want to be a pro in the music biz these days. Every one of them a virtuoso musician. And, they've committed all of it to memory, just like his father's bands all did. It's fascinating to watch and incredible musicianship from everyone. The apple didn't fall far from that tree...
I have never heard a singer that sounds that close to Zappa... I am amazed.... I I saw the show back in 2006... Never seen a better live band since then... BUT These "unknown" band members are amazing....
Dweezil Zappa is an outstanding musician and guitarist too much underrated. He does incredible things without any apparent effort. A real phenomenon in my opinion.
I agree with you ! Dweezil got the music and he can play and get a hot band together to share his Father's legacy to the world........To do this , is love for his Father..... Frank Zappa..!!!!!!! Dweezil thank you for the joy.......Arf ! Arf !!!! 😊
THey totally rock. Love ya Frank. thank goodness I grew up in the 60's & 70's. saw Frank Zappa in High school and the year after as well. Genius!! thank you for deep post man. wow. Dweezil Yawl Rock Man!!
Seen dad 12 times live. Every Halloween in NYC for years. Changed my life, for real. Thru away all my Beatles albums after I heard Peaches at age 13. It’s 53 years and it’s still delicious!! So wonderful to see Dweezil play as good as pops
What amazing experience!! I'm 52, & I still wondering why my parents took the wrong musical tastes🥶. I discovered Frank by myself & I got addicted seriously. He is my Mentor.
I love all of the performances on this recording, and especially San Ber'dino, which in my view is one of Frank Zappa's greatest compositions. Dweezil's playing, so well heard, is wonderful. And the keyboard player, whoever he is, is a master.
When about 13 years old - I heard Zappa for the first time. I was at my cousins house (mid-seventies) and she said "hey listen to this (before I actually started to play guitar) tell me what you think." I was blown away - not because of the genius / musicianship, but because of the "crazy" MIX of the genius and musicianship! I was completely "weirded" out by it. At first, I thought it was ugggg, then I thought it was non-sense, then I came the "you gotta be high" to get it, then came ..... BOOM - after listening to several albums I understood this to be from a completely different level far surpassing anything I had heard before (or since) because of the "mind" needed to put this all together. I still am in bewildered when I hear it today. As a player and musician now, I still have a hard time grasping the mental genius needed to do this. Playing it is one thing - COMPOSING it is another.
I went to this concert in Westbury N.Y.. I saw his father twice at his annual Halloween show at the Palladium in Greenwich Village. That was outrageous! So glad I got to see him him. It was the taping for Baby Snakes in 77.
Our local guitar hero who everyone wanted to be friends with so they could pick his brain LOVED Zappa. To a 15 year old in the late 70s who worshipped EVH, I really/really dreaded listening to Zappa. This guy told me it was over my head, complex, hard/impossible to explain, funny but intelligent.. He was RIGHT. Jump to 2023. Now 60, I find Zappa's music interesting, like chocolate/ mint dipped oysters with a dash of grinded up packing styrofoam.
Thanks to UG for sending me here for the improv' at 01:19:50. This is incredible. I'm at loss for words. I can't put words to express how I feels listening this part
Saw them in Sydney in 2018 Dweezil signed my guitar twice I even was allowed to watch them rehearse great experience I am extremely great full to this day
The way I see it now is that The black page was only a study for Sinister footwear. Kind of a son of the blackpage. Great stuff. Also check out the Bohuslän Big Band on this title. Peace to all you Zappa fans out there!
Frankie can watch down from heaven and be so proud of what his kid has accomplished. Talk about evolving and improving himself as a musician to the utmost, Dweezil has done it: from the time he released his first solo album and the collaboration with his girlfriend back then, Lisa Loeb, to this show, WOW !! ... sure, he had some great heavy metal chops that Steve Vai taught him, nobody ever questioned that he had the technique and the potential, but the sensibility and virtuosity he has today in his improvisations, man ... it took his father's music to bring it all out of him. It all started with the first ZPZ band 10 years ago and even in that period you can tell a vast improvement. Way to go Dweez !!!!! your daddy's soul now continues to live in you, Keep up the amazing work !!
Dismissing Frank's work as a series of novelty songs is like judging the work of Beatles after listening only to Yellow Submarine and When I'm Sixty Four.
Fantastic, Jesus that dude good on the guitar. Frank's songs get better every time, I know he wasn't big on being remembered, but come on we can't forget the comic genius
This is a great Concert and thanks to Dweezil for keeping his dad's music alive. I have seen Frank at every concert he has ever played in Atlanta, Georgia including the ones in Georgia before he started playing in Atlanta. I believe they were in Athens and Macon, Georgia in 1970 or 71 maybe. Have been a Zappa fan since the late 60's. My first expensive guitar was a Gibson Cherry SG after seeing Frank play one live. He was a great guitarist as well as his son also. Lots of good memories listening to this concert. Hope to see Dweezil live one day while I'm still alive.
really an extraordinary performance! hats off to all the musicians and their commitment to practice so hard in order to be able to play FZs music! thanks a lot! i particularly like that crazy "odd meter"-part in "The grand wazoo" around 1:20:00 ... ;-)
4 days after F died , I dreamed I saw him in a white auditorium. He was talking about a concert he was planning, complete with a horn section and string section as well. The afterlife must be awesome... Zappa lives on.
Haven't seen Dweezil yet, but I saw Frank every year between 1972 and 1984. Great concerts. Any of these people could have played with Frank. He expected perfection, and this lineup provides it.
Saw Frank and the Mothers 3 times and this is really, really good stuff folks. Thank you Dweezil. I'm a senior now and you and your band are on my bucket list.
I am so glad this stayed up and got a thx ;) I researched and its public domain and great PR (Is an 8 gig file to begin with)....I only wanted to help and was in heaven in Vancouver at the Commodore Ballroom....much better venue than this and was amazing :D
OSFA lp was given to me by a friend who was a Zappa fan but hated this album. It's been one of my favorites ever since. I can't tell you how fun it is to see it played live..
Fantastic show! Saw ZPZ in Adelaide South Australia in 2010, Dweezil had the same problems! Guitar not working! The band had played the first few bars and Dweezil was obviously frustrated and actually stopped the band, sorted his guitar out, apologised to the audience and the band and then started from the beginning! That show got me hooked on FZ and and I've been waiting six long years for ZPZ to come back to Adelaide.
If anyone would like the original file contact me...its 8 gigs and an MKV @ 720p with major sound options. I just love the music so I had to find it and I did...its what I do.
+Dave Hamilton I was at this show. I would love to get a pristine copy of it.; Please let me know how to contact you. I found out that Live Nation was going to stream it as I arrived at the venue and tried to text/email everyone I could to let them know, but no one got the message or saw the show. this version is fabulous--very good quality, sight and sound. Thanks for the upload. The fact that you posted it the day after my birthday makes it a great gift as well.
+Dave Hamilton I would beg and bark arf arf for a copy of this, I am easy to find online greg chick, aka ramonasplumber. How on earth is this not going viral, this is as sick as a potion from thing fish!
+Dave Hamilton I would love a copy. Right after this concert aired the few cuts that were posted were promptly deleted. I really hope this one stays up here.
Just bought the Roxy-performances CD box, the Roxy DVD/CD and "A Token of his extreme"-show-DVD, some months ago (with the band I think was FZ best crew!). And, man, I see that, as they say, "the show goes on", the legend is alive with this incridible talented Dweezil, and all these talented guys with him! I'm So happy!
There are only a few Wizards of Guitar and Rock n Roll. Jimmy Page...Jeff Beck .....are true Wizards . FRANK ZAPPA was the Great GrandMaster Wizard...high above the land of Wizards. No one had his genius. His mastery of music has never been equalled. Rest in Heaven Big Frank. You will never be forgotten and never be Equalled. Dweezil is keeping the magic alive !!!
Edward Van Halen, John Scofield, Steve Morse, John Petrucci, Steve Vai... Vai played w Zappa.. Frank will always be a archetype grand father imo. I listened to Lumpy Gravy as a child. I saw Frank in 1984 .. in 1979 saw Van Halen and that was when I really wanted to play guitar. I heard in Eddies playing, a musician, not (just a) rock star.
