We had a blast in the mountains outside Guangzhou to try the new ZEEKR 7X - whilst it may not be the most outstanding EV against its Chinese competitors, on the global stage not much can come close. Follow me on Twitter @ElliotChina
The big 3 CEOs are asleep at the wheel. They are being protected by the US government for the time being but I fear even the government can't save them. They will leave with their 10s of millions in compensation for completely missing the vision of the future and the big 3 will be gone.
OP reviews car like a real estate agent sells houses. This is an EV. When do you discuss the electronics? Does the car pre-heats the battery and is there a button for it? How much does the car hold? What are the drive modes? Can it auto park? Questions an EV buyer would ask when making a buy.
Exactly...this is more of Li auto L6 competition as that car is selling very well in China...Onvo is a direct competitor to model Y. Reviewers are either asked to compare to model Y or they miss out on segments...
Elliot, the Zeekr X in The Netherland is priced at a starting price of €42.490. Chinese cars will be taxed in the near distance future. This 7X definitely looks very appealing, but don't expect this to sell around Model Y prices, simply because the Zeekr X is at that price level already. Then we haven't even talked about the weight. In our country combustion engine cars are taxed on their weight. Soon EVs as well. This behemoth will cost you €213 A MONTH on tax alone.
No. People should not make the mistake that a Geely owned brand is the same as an established European brand even if they use the same platform. The amount of modifications to the platforms and engineering feel and personality into how the car drives makes them different. Lotus spent a considerable amount of time tuning that chassis and steering and throttle and such to make the car drive a particular way and the Zeekr won't drive like the Lotus.
@@benjaminsmith2287 EV6 and Ioniq5 are on the same platform, different brands and drive entirely differently. My question stands, despite your desperate attempt to appear knowledgeable. Thanks for your efforts though.
Legacy car makers like VW should be worried. My Skoda Enyaq Sportline has no rear usb/12v ports, no automated tailgate, no frunk despite free space to have one, already has the tech for adaptive/predictive cruise control in car but VW expect me to pay £270 to unlock it. Next car will be a legacy ICE car or Chinese EV
A really nice car that I would seriously consider if Zeekr fixes a serious flaw, that most Chinese car manufacturers make when introducing a car in Europe. No 40/20/40 backseat or at least a load through hatch for our ski or fishing rods. I would never buy a car without it. Nio with it's ET5 Touring and EL6 know what Europeans want, but most Chinese manufacturers don't, and that even goes for Zeekr. They say its designed in Sweden, but not many Swedes want such a car without room for their skies, so it is definitely designed for China, not Europe.
Thanks for this clip. But I must totally disagree about this "Legacy Auto doomed" take. Zeekr is owned by Geely, so are Lynk&Co, Polestar and Legacy - Volvo. So they have a solid economic base. But fun fact is that Geely is depending, and trusting, in Swedish engineering. Zeekr, Lynk&Co, Polestar and Volvo are all developed and designed in Gothenburg. Polestar and Volvo HQ are in Gothenburg and Geely has from the start stayed away from interfering. (When Volvo was owned by Ford, Volvo went down in everything) Today the EV market have a set back, but the Legacy Auto brands have other options then EVs. Take Legacy - elephant Toyota, they are just watching the struggle, while going direct to solid state tech. Imo the leading EV company today is Hyundai/KIA/Genesis. A Legacy Auto brand. They have a lineup with very different and interesting models, also at good prices. An impressive development in just a few years. Elon... take note. (Ha ha, yeah sure..)
As for EU prices - This costs 239k RMB, while the 001 is 269k RMB. The 001 costs 59 990€ in Germany. If this 7X is 11.15% cheaper than the 001, then that would put it at 53 301€ or 1700€ below the Model Y Dual Motor Long Range. The ID.4 may be a bigger competitor in Germany specifically, as they are quite cheap there, but nice nonetheless! Seems like a pretty good deal to me!
Why is this an SUV? Isn't more ground clearance implied? Why do almost all electric cars have glass roofs? They are unbearable in Australia. I think maybe people are stupid.
The other downside is that here in Australia, the zeekr sedans and wagons won't go on sale because they'll stick to selling SU fing Vs and nothing else.
Drove a zeekr 001 here in The Netherlands and I was not impressed at all. Besides some of the materials it felt like a poorly tuned car. Kind of like a cheap car with nice materials. It felt kind of loose and unresponsive, and the infotainment was just a joke to use. A bit slow, and messy. Sound proofing also was not anything special. After that I test drove a Polestar 4 and despite being on the same platform it was instantly noticeable that Polestar knows what they are doing. 001 did not feel like a 60-70k car to drive, Polestar 4 definitely did.
An atypical SUV which drives like an ordinary SUV. The Tesla MY is a proper driver's car, it's super at that stuff. But I understand that non-enthusiast/mainstream drivers don't care about things like that so much. They want comfort, utility, and tech. All that the MY is still super at, but you get those things in the Zeekr for virtually nothing on top.
like the car, but your review left me a bit confused, really. You didn't praise anything as being particularly outstanding, other than the front lights, and yet, this is the best electric SUV in the world? When we've got things like the KIA EV9? Ok that's in a totally different price bracket, but to call it 'the best', it really has to be the best.
Sorry, did you say 3000kg, what the hell? The Model Y is 2000, is the Zeekr made of stone?? I don’t want to find out how a 3-ton car brakes on icy roads
Tesla Model Y segment getting crowded, even in EV world alone. I can't list all of them from my head. The recently released Onvo is as good. There are more that came out months years ago like the Xpeng G6
We need EV that are cheap, light and fast charging with a battery that makes sense with daily drive. Most people would not need more than a Smart car size with 100km range.
Absolutely disagree! European need a family car type which can do all jack trade from weekend road trip, tolling something to daily commute. The range need to be decent , good space while not costing a bomb.
Higher ride height?? Excellent if it is. Too many electric suv aren’t actually that high. I have a feeling the price will be about double a tesla when it arrives in australia
Love it. 30 minutes ranting what is not good, but the result is it’s the greatest car. How is this car ahead in respect to assistant systems? I like the design outside, inside looks fine as well and the buttons are good. But I don’t see anything really distinctive.
Yes, more powerful motor, 20kwh more on battery pack. Just keep in mind, Tesla motor is lot more flimsy build compare to cars design to be reliable. Earlier model S has motor problem because they push the weight saving too much. Using motor can only handle half of the power than it actually can in a reliable way.
ESG legislation in EU & UK is pushing for greener transport but they also don't want to undermine car manufacturer profits and jobs so raise taxes to make it uneven. Why is the UK trying to help EU protect EU jobs? Just let us buy Chinese cars
@@edc1569 Nothing greener about a Chinese EV. The government is pushing the green agenda and making it difficult for consumers to buy somewhat better EV's than the current market offerings. No one in the UK cares about preserving VW Group jobs in Wolfsburg, we would rather have affordable options from BYD, Geely, BAIC, etc in our market.
No. It is not the best! It do not have the battery swapping technology and not the best in technology too! New launch NOVO is the best EV with far better technology and come with battery swapping technology!
Did they pay you to advert their product? Just one more Chinese state-supported here-today-gone-tomorrow pop-up car maker. Very soon, The EU will add a serious amount of import tax to the sales price to level the market.
Geely as a brand has some of the least support from the CCP out of any Chinese car maker. Also geely has a decent track record with their brands and Zeekr is aggressively expanding so it doesn't seem like it will just 'go away'
😂This is lot better than Model Y. The Y is build on a aging plateform, which the same as model 3. And inferior build quality is. Well, not justify for the price is a polite way to put it.
Seems to me the only selling point of this thing is the price. Problem with that is that Chinese prices don't translate to UK prices. A BYD Seal is about £19,000 in China, but £45,000 here. Convert 239000 at the same rate and you've got a £60k car. And that could increase if import tariffs are dumped on Chinese EVs, as seems to be happening all over the world. Apart from the price, what I learned from watching this review is that it's a big SUV with only 5 seats. It rolls in corners, poor feedback through the steering wheel, and the overall handling isn't anything clever. There's piano black everywhere. The seats aren't overly supportive or comfortable. The interior materials are cheap. It has an iPad glued to the dashboard, because modern car designers don't know how to design. The rear USBs can't be accessed with three people in the back. As for the lack of bings and bongs with the self driving, that won't happen over here either, EU rules will make sure they're turned on. If you think BMW and Merc drivers will switch to this, and not an iX, e-tron or EQ series, you're delusional. They're not going to swap the prestige badge and superior build quality or driving experience for an unknown Chinese car that's average, at best. So, after almost 19 minutes of a review, there's absolutely nothing exciting, revolutionary or even interesting about that car that would make me want one. I really cannot see in what way legacy manufacturers are lagging behind. It's not world-beating in performance, efficiency, technology or design.
The only flaw in your argument is that nobody is buying many EQs and iXs... And pricing is just a function of tariffs. Europeans will lose out anyway. Not like an EQE SUV is cheap or any good😂
Looks good. But please stop saying "Germanic." German products are no longer world leaders and many German brands have awful designs and quality issues.
No worries. They won't miss your sale either. Can keep buying those 100k dollar American pickup gas guzzlers from Chyrsler. I understand they are in big trouble. Their pricey Dodge , RAM and Jeep pick ups are not selling. Owner Stellantis is looking to dump the brand.
Here we go again. Didnt you rate that Xiaomi that is falling apart and catching fire all over China? They pump out these videos (under government scrutiny) and talk about how great they are but never tell you when a car has massive safety flaws and thousands of daily complaints from owners. This is a car reviewed under strict Chinese laws (you have to paint China and Chinese products in a positive light or they won't allow you to release it). As a result, one of the most dangerous cars released in decades has nothing but glowing reviews. You do your bit for Chinese propaganda mate. Dont upset your CCP minder though.
Did you say 3000kg? That is just obscene. A car of that size with that battery should be about 2500kg. The McLaren you compared it to is less than half the weight. Very poor journalism. I will not subscribe nor watch any more of your videos.
Sorry but the Renault Scenic is better than this car, so I don’t see the point of claiming that legacy automakers are doomed. Some are, but some aren’t. Is this all clickbait ? Are you paid for this video ?
I keep telling people to stop believing them propaganda. Flights to China are cheap! Go to Shanghai rent a car or take the train and go to Chongqing. It'll open your eyes at how fast the country is progressing and why the "West" is threatened. It was Japan in the 90s to early 2000 that was very high tech. From late 2000 onwards it'll be China. Now do the same from New York City to say Denver. In between you'll see towns that will remind you of or worst than 3rd world countries.
3:33 3 tonnes??? No thanks. You lost me there. That would break my driveway, and is above the 2.5T weight limit in any height restricted car park in Australia
