Great games definitely have a very carefully planned start. My first instinct if I was designing the game would have probably been to give the player the sword right away, and place static obstacles they can hit (like rocks) on the first screen, to get them used to the controls. This solution is a lot more in line with the rest of the game though, letting the player approach it by themselves and all. "If you explore and go into caves, you'll find cool items". Pretty good video. You've got yourself a new subscriber!

+Hikaru_Aikawa I think ,as far as teaching the player the basics, that would suffice pretty well. Like you said though it fits better with the rest of the game this way. Nintendo was pretty masterful at teaching the player in clever ways, even more so in the older 8 to 16 bit consoles than they are now.

Came from Reddit, nice video man, a very digressing and sidequesting vibe from GT which is cool, didn't know how genius the first level of the first Loz was until now. Maybe a different background music though for next time, something that doesn't distract you from what your saying.

CoryCorp Thanks man, I really appreciate it! Yeah, I've heard some complaints about the music. I only picked it pretty much to avoid copyright take down. I'm going to try to find something a little more relaxed and background friendly for the next video! Glad you enjoyed it anyway though. :D

I like the video, but please choose some different music for the background. I really don't want to listen to such grating stuff when listening to game design discussion.

Polly chan Sorry about that! Ok, I'll keep it in mind for the next one I make. I was just trying to pick something that was Zelda, but remixed so it wouldn't get a copyright take down. Next time I'll find something better.

Yeah, it's kind of a pain in the ass with Nintendo. I understand. I don't personally have any recommendations, but something easy to listen to as background music would be great! Smart observations in this video and I hope you continue to make more!
