CHALLENGERS had us on the edge of our seats the entire time. We've sweat more watching this than when doing one arm pushups in the sauna. Our knees were weak (not as weak as Tashi's) as this masterpiece came to it's conclusion. And we hope you enjoy watching along with us!

Tashi IS the ball. She only loves tennis and said she's not interested in love from the start. When she couldn't play anymore she wanted to see epic tennis period. She played them both, back and forth, she became the ball, it was her only way to play, and the only way for the guys to fight is on court. She wanted an epic tennis match.

they were all miserable because they all wanted each other. Patrick wanted Art and Tashi, Art wanted Patrick and Tashi, Tashi wanted Art and Patrick. The only reason it got all messy was because Tashi's injury took away her tennis and everything spiralled from there.

There was always unacknowledged sexual tension between Art and Patrick. Their friendship was built on a mix of rivalry and desire. Tashi was in love with tennis and used the guys as vehicles to fulfill that desire. Her love for them depended on their proximity to tennis. The guys aren’t mad at the end because they regain the relationship which was the most important to them (their bromance). Tashi was a proxy for the sexual tension they couldn’t fulfill with each other. If you think that Art wasn’t also attracted to Patrick, consider - he went to school with Tashi for ages and he never hung out with her. Art only sat down and tried to break them up when he knew Patrick was coming back to visit. Tashi being desired by Patrick is what made her attractive to Art.

@panashe5268
@panashe5268 2 месяца назад
I disagree. If Art and Pat were actually “lovers” then why did they break contact for a whole decade. At no point did either man reach out to each other, even the night before their match. You could argue Pat had “something” towards Art but Art never displayed any indication of being anything but heterosexual. Women can kiss each other and still consider themselves straight, Art experimenting once doesn’t mean he has sexual attraction to Pat. Also nobody casually hangs out with their best friends girlfriend, that’s weird.

@@panashe5268Also three years passed between Tashi's injury, her leaving Stanford after losing her sport's scholarship and meeting Art again. Art could have contacted Patrick during that period but he didn't. He was playing a long game to win Tashi but also to win in tennis because he saw that Tashi was the one that could make him a champ. Let's remember that Patrick always belittled Art when they were together (consciously or not) and Art only reached his full potential as a player when he was far from Patrick. But he eventually lost love for the game after all the tough work, discipline and injuries and he wanted Tashi to join him in retirement even though she was still passionate about the sport

This movie was really good. The way they connected everything at the end was amazing. Also Patrick was always the best player but he had too big of an ego to let anyone coach him hence why art became the best with her coaching. At the end they both played amazing.
@Itz.masonfox
@Itz.masonfox 2 месяца назад
I kinda agree. I think Tashis manipulation is the main reason why Art succeeded more than Pat. Art got what he wanted after his own manipulative actions to break them up. So without Art realizing… Tashi was only supportive and receptive to Arts ways and personality to be coachable than Pat. She saw how she can get more control into his tennis life than Pat being more “solo.”

Literally all she can do is sit on the sidelines and watch, all she wanted was a real tennis game and ofc the anger fueled art to play like he used to despite Patrick always being the better player. I don't think Tashi manipulated them at all. In Atlanta she was vulnerable bc Anna Mueller was winning all the competitions, whom she once was able to outshine by far. The news broadcast in that moment showed Anna and Art side by side and that would have made her feel 2 different ways about Art. Because although Art was flourishing with her coaching, it's not actually her on the court. (Also Art partly is the reason for her injury if not fundamental according to the cast interview) It was Patrick who slid into that weak state of hers and he was able to do that bc they were in somewhat of a similar situation. Once top of their game, now fallen out of track. And for the present time, she never would have guessed Patrick was gonna do the sign cuz she didn't know about it. I think she actually does love Art and went to Patrick only to save their marriage. Because if she wanted to watch a good tennis only, asking somebody to lose intentionally is a pretty opposite way to do it. And by the look of her face when Art asked her to hold him, she and him both knew that Art was likely gonna lose and she was just as heartbroken as Art's. Patrick wanted to save everybody in the right way, hence the serve and it was a really risky move that couldve ruined everything but eventually did bring love back to all three of them. People are usually quick to villainize Tashi but had she not gotten dragged into the drama between the two boys, she wouldn't have lost the biggest love of her life, which is tennis so I actually feel the most for her😅

Tashi's motivations: She wants to feel the same emotions that she felt for those 15 secs when she yelled "Come on!" at her opponent all those years ago. She wants to live, not just survive, and she realises that with Art, she'll do nothing but fade away. She thinks by coaching him she can live those moments again, but it isn't working. Fortunately Patrick shows up to show her that to live again, she needs them both, and all three of them need to be together. Art's motivation: This one's pretty clear. He's the soft and sensitive one of the group. He wants to give up. But he needs to learn that he's not just Tashi's emotional support robot. That the only way he can still feel alive is with _both_ Patrick and Tashi beside him, playing some "good f***ing tennis". Patrick's motivation: He thinks he can live alone and succeed if he just has Tashi back, this time as his coach. But he also realizes he misses Art a lot, and the world isn't too kind to him when he's separate from the pack. By the end, he decides to win Art back and knows that by goading Art into a good game, he'll give Tashi what she wants too, which is a relationship laid out in the shape of some good tennis playing. so she can live her "Come on!" moments again. That's Challengers, a life-affirming story championing living instead just coasting through life, decaying marriages, lifeless relationships, being mostly dead inside.

This movie really makes you think bc you walk out of theaters wondering what you watched and you start to love it the more you sit on it while realizing sm more that happened so I’d say it does have rewatchability and is open to discussion. Very well directed, great visuals and great performances I mean Tashi saying it felt like they were in love playing tennis (her and the girl in the beginning) and I wouldn’t be surprised if she did play them into competing against each other, thus ruining their friendship and putting on a good game. Her scream at the end is always “that’s what I’m talking about” cause she can really only play vicariously thru them and it makes her sad bc she’s a winner and art losing isn’t her style. Tho she’s also twisted so ofc she sees competition as love or something toxic lol Patrick’s real bc he tells her when she talks too much about tennis while art just lets her, and at the end he realized how blinded he was to getting the girl he lost sight of the game and his friendship instead

this movie was SO GOOD! I loved it. And zendaya said she practiced air tennis LOL. She said she sucks at tennis. Also in terms of I guess “who she liked more” between them, I don’t think it’s a conversation of who she liked more, because the only thing she TRULY loved, is tennis. Like yea, she married Art, and in a weird way I think she does love him to some degree, but she loved him as much as her heart would allow because tennis was her first love. they all brought out in each other. Patrick and Tashi were alike talent wise, but Patrick lacked drive and ambition and Tashi didn’t rlly like that. Art on the other hand was insecure with his tennis playing and she saw that he was basically malleable and also pretty desperate for her validation. I think the reason she also liked art was because he was more sensitive and emotional in a way, more receptive and he was there for her when she got injured.

Tashi loves tennis because to her its a relationship. I think thats why shes more sexually attracted to patrick because he pushes back and theres more passion there. But I dont think she loves him because he lacks the drive to better himself. Art is more like a puppy dog who follows her around but it makes him more pliable to become the person Tashi wants him to be. And after her accident she is kind of "stuck" with him because hes her only outlet to tennis, her first and foremost love. Thats why shes so devasted when he wants to retire. Especially when he's also responsible for putting her off her game mentally and causing her accident. And I think Patrick is in love with Art. I think he may be sexually attracted to Tashi too but only really dates her as a way to make Art jealous. Art loves and adores Tashi though. They all win at the end though. Art gets his passion for tennis back, Patrick gets his friend back and Tashi gets a really good game of tennis.

I guess it’s why they call tennis a relationship bc they lose sight of the actual game and are instead in love with the game (Tashi, who also symbolizes the tennis ball) but overall they all suck with deep issues and a major case of inferiority complex

As anyone with maturity would. It’s not like she was vocal about his sex scenes in certain movies. They know their partners are actors.

Anyone think that Patrick can't go back to his parents? Like maybe they took him out of their will when they found out he liked guys too.

Based on how he acted when Tashi gave him advice to improve his game (at Stanford) it's probably his ego stopping him from asking his parents for help. He would have to admit that his whole life had been a failure and he would have to admit defeat to his parents, who would remind him that they told him so

This movie is risky, but everyone loves anything sewage water-dirty kind of entertainment. Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist are remarkable actors. They say the grass is greener on the other side, and that couldn't be any more true in this context.

Tashi love tennis more than anything and she had issues not playing due to her injury and for me Patrick loved Art more than Tashi. No secrets between them and there were secrets with Art and Tashi. All three had a lot of issues and so far it's my favorite 2024 film

I work at the movies and the rule with Rated R movies is as long as someone 17+ is there with anyone under that age they can come too. I had parents bringing their 5 year olds to see this movie. I have no clue WHY they did. Maybe they saw Zendaya but I had parents getting upset with me. Buddy I told you it's Rated R. Why are you mad at me?

Patrick is an Alpha Male and Art is the Omega male. Patrick will always dominate Art. In tennis, in relationships, in love and in life. He couldn’t help it. I think that’s the part of Pat that Tashi responds to. Although she also wants the stability and equanimity that Art offers. But, in life, as in tennis, as Art says, “you can only win the points that matter.”
