This week I decided to celebrate my upcoming CZT anniversary by carefully studying the poster of "102 Tangles of Zentangle" done in 2009. This video is my first tile using some of the patterns (Raddox, Facade, Patena). It has been fun to do a deep dive into that poster and really study it. There are a few patterns that I didn't recognize, so I've gone through my Zenthology book more than one time! I may not do videos for them all, but it could be a fun challenge! I wanted to identify all patterns on the poster to make sure that I knew the name for each and I was able to name 99 of them! If anyone has a list of the original 102 tangle patterns, I would love to see it!
Here's a brief history of how I came upon that poster. In December 2017 CZT Victoria McMillen placed the poster “102 Tangles of Zentangle” on display at our local community college. I was immediately attracted to it, so I took a photo and went home to investigate. In retrospect, I should have tried to contact Victoria, but it was the end of classes for the semester. I searched the web for the word Zentangle and started learning on my own through videos and books. I eventually took classes from Victoria, and then in June 2019 I travelled to Rhode Island to meet the Zentangle crew and became a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT). It will be four years ago on June 19. And the rest is history!
