One spine shivering moment is when Duran called Zeratul _young prodigal_ To have probably one of the oldest Protoss that have seen 'births of negative stars' being called young just gives you a feeling of utter enigma on not who Duran is, but WHAT he is.
The hybrid story had such a great buildup between this mission and the foreshadowing in one of the books. Unfortunate it is that an idea that was once so honorable and full of life would succumb to the twisted story of StarCraft 2.
Id say wings of liberty still did It good sorta, well more like the secret mission of wings of liberty did the hybrid well Made it feel like the dominion were desperate to find a way to hurt the hybrid in anyway and just a single hybrid was able to destroy so much
This mission still gives me the chills to this day. Dialogues and voice acting are superb. I mixed some of my other playthrough to show the missing dialogues in co-op, I hope it doesnt look too odd.
Meanwhile, on StarCraft Alternate… En route to Braxis to rendezvous with Lt. Davis and the Captain, one of Stukov's Ghosts detects something strange at an old Confederate planet. Three recon squads, one led by Stukov himself, are dropped off as they investigate. Within stasis cells they find Ghosts and at least one Protoss trooper being experimented on by Zerg using Terran tech. At least two they have managed to free to join. Soon, they reach the last Stasis Cell, and Raszagal a.k.a. Gestalt One rants about her experiments across the entire sector, and that this is beyond Duran's machinations.
The backstory video of the entire Alternate universe provides tons of fascinating ideas and deviations from the prime story involving the Gestalts, Razagal’s boss, and some changes of the Terran lore. Would be interesting to see all of this play out and SC2 Alternate.
This is a thriller but enjoyable mission. I like how they build the Hybrid scheme... You know... Until they butchered with some poorwritting as Narud (I mean... They have to name it poorly equal...)

Duran: "-You will never find them all before they awaken, And when they do, your universe will be changed... Forever-" Zeratul: "Uh huh, well that was a nice scary story Duran - or should I call you Narud... Using a group named the Mobius Corps run by Terrans that can be easily found in the Korprulu Sector is silly, they wouldn't hide experiments properly just like their desire to off each other just to be a fascist dictator, even your Xel'Naga shrines were discovered many decades ago by our vigilant Observers sent even to the deepest parts of space - even before we got exiled! What's next? Are you're gonna tell me your dark one will also have an unstoppable plan by hijacking the Khala - Like, come on, that's just ridiculous, almost as ridiculous as thinking about dying to either one of my close friends under possession. I am so glad we have a bunch of contingency plans set out by our exalted Executor, Nral, even he wouldn't request something over the top like some giant, Terran female looking Sun humanoid that will save everyone in the universe. Like, can you imagine all of this simping after all that?" Duran: *[Gets Beaded And Drenched In Sweat, Begins To Panic]* "Amon... They're onto us... You said it was foolproof...!!"
My headcanon after realizing that those creatures were Hybrid from SC2 was that Duran's preparing for a massive Hybrid army. I suspect that this mission would bridge the what-if mission that is In Utter Darkness in WoL. Also, side note. If you read the SC1 manual, the Overmind was the creation of Amon (actually, since the manual just describes it as 'creation of the Xel'naga'; whomever they refer to at that time is unknown though) since the giant eye's only objective was to assimilate the Protoss, the same objective Duran and Amon wanted to achieve, buuut since the Overmind _has_ a telepathic link, this link made him saw Amon's plan to conquer the sector (and _possibly_ whatever the Xel'naga has, including the Keystone _and_ the prophesy that the Queen of Blades is the ultimate weapon), that's why he chose to get "here comes the Gantrithor'd" so that the zerg will be free from Amon's influence. That's why, should the Overmind be complete again in To Slay the Beast, it's like Amon laughs at you and just says "lol, looks like the zerg are mine again hahaha, and this time it will stay obedient." Just my two cents.
@@rawfleshStarCraft615 Originally the Overmind is "semi-sentient" formed from the amalgamations of the collective sentience of the Zerg, which quickly gain personality and intellect; although it probably had learned too much during its growth, Amon had learned that the Protoss' sentience led them to war (Aeon of Strife), that's why he made sure that this won't happen again by making the Overmind have one overriding will, and that is to assimilate the Protoss, which then the Overmind made a rigid command structure composing of Cerebrates, which then gave orders to queens and overlords. This effectively made sure that absolutely no one will break the Overmind's will as long as it's alive.
This is actually explained pretty well in Starcraft II. The Overmind is basically sentient but cannot disobey it's directive to assimilate Zerg and Protoss together. It actually decides to infest Kerrigan as a 'way out' without rebelling
@@lyonvensa and Kerry got double duty as Amon's agent and planning on stopping those Keystone parts being found anyways by the time Wings of Liberty rolls on. Although it could be that she's stopping Jim from finding the Keystone, Duran wanted to find those parts too.
I remember how everyone was hyped about the Hybrid plotline before the release of SC2 and how mundanely it was resolved after WoL. Now the sequel hook for the next installment in the SC franchise, if it ever comes to pass, is the UED.
The hybrids have so much potential throughout the StarCraft Universe. What ended up getting is that they're turned into damage sponge enemies with the only characterization is just serving Amon and his cohorts. List of wasted potential with hybrids: - A unique race that mixes the characteristics of the Zerg and Protoss in both lore and gameplay, to create unique features, for example, a Pylon/Creep Colony hybrid that generates a special kind of creep that regenerates shields faster while also powering up structures, or a Lair/Hive that warps in units. - More hybrid characterization, the malicious, pear-hungry Maar isn't enough, maybe a freedom-seeking Hybrid Reaver being treated like a lab rat throughout his entire life would do.
I once played a custom game where Zeratul himself remembers his past and his alliance with the agents of the Xel Naga..... I gotta say, what actually became cannon in SC2 is a lot more disappointing.
