My fourth annual All Zevon, All Day marathon is underway. Zevon's music means so much to me (more each passing year), and I take time to appreciate his work. I also managed to snag a handful of items I didn't have before.

Thanks to you, I had my own little Zevon-a-Thon. Thanks for the shout out! Dancing School is such a great album. I've really delved into The Wind. That doc really elucidates the proceedings and helps appreciate what he was up against and what he was trying to accomplish. Even if you didn't know the circumstances, you'd have to admit that it is a strong album. But to see it through that lense, it is irresistible. What a determined effort and he maintained his maudlin sense of humour through it all. Indeed he belongs in the Hall, but screw them. It's a bloody popularity contest and Zevon never gave a damn about playing that game. It suits him to be left out. The rest of us know better. Just ask Springsteen or Jackson Browne.

You're welcome, I'm glad you reminded me to give it a spin earlier this year :) I'm the same with The Wind. Not my favorite still, but the documentary really helps appreciate it.

Nice tribute to Warren; I hadn’t realized it had been that long. This prompted me to listen to the Hindu Love Gods album (on cassette, for goodness sake) for the first time in years. It’s still as slapdash & loosey-goosey (in a good way) as I remembered it being and they sure sounded like they were having fun. I really miss him.

I actually got HLG on vinyl but totally forgot to talk about it :( I didn't remember until after I posted the video.

So weird I found this, I didn't realize what day it was on the 7th but I kept listening to Life'll Kill Ya (both the song and the album) all day, not realizing why, but I wonder if subconsciously I didn't realize what was going on somehow. I've really come to appreciate Zevon more and more over time, I always liked him but I never really appreciated a lot of the subtlety and depth until I got much older. Part of it is my dad, who introduced me to Zevon, left us in 2005, and every time I think of him I think of Zevon and every time I think of Zevon I think of him. I've thought a few times about getting my hands on a turntable and building a vinyl Zevon collection to try to experience it the way my Dad must have heard it back in the day, but I don't know anything about vinyl lol

Thank you for sharing your story :) If you get a turntable, remember, the collecting curse is real and you'll never stop! *lol*

I had his songs going on a mix today laying in the sun and looking for the next best thing came on and hearing it tge second time was way different this time, especially understanding Warren a little more now, that one sums him up pretty good, my favorite song is renegade model citizen a sarcasstic wonderful song love the drums, or finishing touches right now, which are all on mr bad example I realized, I think this one and my rides here would have been in many ways better last albums, but the wind has powerful last word messages if you can hear them, besides of course keep me in your heart, the song every artists wishes they could write! But if anything the wind just rocks tge hell out of me, I could listen to disorder in the house (even tho the lyrics aren't the best imo) or party for the rest of the night on repeat, which combines my two favorite artists, it would have sounded good regardless but now theyre on it.

The Mr. Bad example album is such an underrated gem! I've come to appreciate The Wind more as time goes on. I think seeing the documentary, knowing what he was going through, made it more appealing to me. Thank you for your comments, it's fun to talk Zevon with fellow fans!

@@brettsmusicreviews2641 ty for making the video who knows whdn I would have been able to talk about him with somebody that knows, did you know that song porcalin monkey is about elvis lol, he didn't think too great about him which is refreshing, I myself never got into Elvis, oh and I'm sure you knew that johnny strikes up the band is about Jesus and the whole coming back thing, which to me made it 3 times better of a song, cuz at first I thought maybe it was jusg about the band gdtting together and possibly johnny carson.
