My ranking is quite different but I respect yours, shows how much diversity and quality there is in Dio's albums. 1) Heaven And Hell 2) Dream Evil 3) The Last In Line 4) Rising 5) Holy Diver

That it does! He put out a lot of quality albums, ranking them was very tough. Thanks for the comment!

Another enjoyable video, Brett. Only one of these albums I know is Rainbow Rising which I like very much. My son has all the Dio Rainbow and Sabbath albums on CD so I'll give these a listen over the next few days.

Thank you for the kind words! I'm not a Dio completist, in that I don't have all the Dio Band albums or any of the Elf material. But his work with the Sabs and Rainbow is nothing short of brilliant. Let me know how you like them!

Hi Brett. I've given a listen to the 3 Rainbow albums plus "Heaven and Hell" and "Mob Rules" over the last few days, - I was wrong about my son having all the Sabbath Dio albums. He only has "Heaven and Hell" and "Mob Rules" + the live album. First of all, I'm not a huge heavy metal fan and certainly not familiar with many heavy metal albums. I actually saw Black Sabbath twice. First time in the mid 1970s and the second time around 2015. I couldn't fully appreciate them as I only knew "Paranoid" and "Iron Man." I've made up for this since and know quite a few of their songs from the first 6 albums. Anyway, what do I think? I found the first Rainbow album the most accessible. It sounds more like a hard rock album than a heavy metal one to me. Like it very much except for "If You Don't Like Rock n Roll" which I found a bit cliched. I don't think Dio's voice is quite so distinctive on this album and perhaps the album would have been as good with some other vocalist. "Rainbow Rising." A lot heavier than the first album. I like the first 4 tracks but the 2 closing tracks are magnificent and symphonic / operatic in their scope. - Verging on prog rock. Dio's voice is sensational. "Long Live Rock and Roll" strikes me as in the same vein as the first 4 tracks on "Rainbow Rising." I'll need to give it a few more listens. Like you, I think I prefer "Mob Rules" to "Heaven and Hell." "Country Girl" is my favourite track. Again, obviously fine albums but I'll need a few more listens. Overall, I've enjoyed all the albums and I'll dip into them occasionally. However, I think its time Willie Nelson or Fairport Convention for a change. Look forward to your next ranking video. Might give me a reason to investigate an artist / band I'm not familiar with.

@@russellcampbell3274 One of the best compliments we can receive as music fans is when we introduce others to what we like, and they end up liking (or at least respecting) our choices. I'll be honest, I don't like every Dio Band album and don't own them all. In fact, the two following Holy Diver are a bit of a let-down for me. They're good but failed to capture the magic of the debut. It wasn't until Dream Evil that I feel the band tried something new (and succeeded). Country Girl is epic! The final show I saw with that line-up was in 2009, they played that as a lead-in to the final song, Neon Knights. It was massive in concert! Now I feel a bit of pressure, I need to come up with something good :)

I don't even know who Ronnie James Dio is. I do now. Rainbow does Greensleeves, eh? I love that song and even play it on Classical guitar as a personal favourite. I'm going to look that up.

I think you'll appreciate his music, even if it doesn't become a favorite, there's such diversity. Something for everyone!

Hey friend, if we all liked exactly the same records in the same order, it would be boring :) Thank you for the response! It was a lot more difficult than I thought it'd be when I sat down to actually rank them.

Elf was great, why do you not mention these LPs? And Glovers Butterfly Ball?

I don't actually own any Elf or the other LP you mentioned. It's all down to personal taste :)

@@brettsmusicreviews2641 Thx for your response. I know, it is taste, but Dio made LPs with the group Elf, If you mention Rainbow or BS with Dio as Singer, then Elf must also be mentioned otherwise it is incomplete. The first Rainbow Album was Blackmore with Elf Members. Heaven & Hell - Bible Black is also an fine album.
